About

It has been a long, eventful journey since Avalon Lords: Dawn Rises first entered Early Access back in 2016. Over the years we faced challenges, made mistakes and learned invaluable lessons along the way. Last year, we made the difficult decision to temporarily remove the game from the Steam store to embark on a complete rebuild. And during the upcoming Steam RTS Fest we are excited to share the first iteration of that process. If you are interested in testing it out, please read on to ensure you know what to expect.
The Rebuild: A New Beginning
Avalon Lords: Dawn Rises has been rebuilt from the ground up by a small, but passionate team of original and new developers. This is not a re-release of the old game but the beginning of an entirely new saga. While we’ve made significant progress, we want to be upfront: this is just the start.
What to expect
To set expectations correctly, here’s what the first iteration of the new build will offer:
A Barebones Experience: The current version prioritizes core mechanics and stability over features and polish. Many systems are still in development and you’ll encounter placeholders and unfinished elements.
Foundational Gameplay: Expect minimal content at this stage. This release is focused on getting the basics right before expanding further. You can test the first mission of the campaign and test the systems in skirmishes. Multiplayer is available but is not properly balanced or polished.
Transparency Commitment: We’re committed to being open about the state of the game. While it is playable, it is not a full-fledged experience yet. Think of it as the foundation of what’s to come.
Why release now?
After being in bad shape for years and basically unplayable since we pulled it from the store, we felt it was essential to make something accessible again for those who have already supported us. By releasing the game during the Steam RTS Fest, we hope to re-engage with our community and invite new players to be part of this rebuilding process. It goes without questions that early supporters do not have to buy the game or any content again.
Your Role in Shaping the Game
We’re taking a community-centered development approach, and your feedback will play a critical role in shaping the future of Avalon Lords. Here is how you can help:

I gotta say, this game has incredible potential. That being said, there are a lot of improvements that need to be made in order for me to give it a thumbs up. Yeah I got it, its an early access game, what did I expect? Well I'm posting this so the Dev's can see it and hopefully take my thoughts into consideration. Firstly, not everyone wants to play multiplayer matches. The single player skirmishes that you have are adequate at best. Currently there is only 1 map which does get old very quickly. The map itself is.. odd.. Its named Avalon plains but its packed with mountains. I got laugh out of that. Try making more maps and in all different types of terrain. Also, try making the match set up a little more intuitive, let me choose what factions I fight, and what is up with the time limit in a single player skirmish? That doesn't make a lot of sense. Please add more units and buildings, better factions with noticeable differences, special units depending on the faction that you choose, and Vikings.. You have to add Vikings.. haha. Maybe make an empire mode for single player instead of just multiplayer. Whats up with the Veteran infantry looking like Roman soldiers? I thought it was medieval times. One thing that really bugged me was the way you place walls. Its really clunky and time consuming. In an RTS you can't have its take 10 minutes to lay walls down. The walls don't connect to the gates and vice versa. It looks like you tried to make it so you could place a gate in a section of wall and have it built there. This only causes the gate to get built in the same space as the wall and no units can go through. But I'm sure this will be fixed. At its current state I would give its a 5/10. I will reevaluate it again after more development has been done. Good luck Dev's and thanks for reading.
What a surprise! I heard about the game first, when they annouced to release on the same day as the new total war. Now SEGA moved that game away - maybe they were afraid? ;) However, first I could play the game at PAX East in Boston, a few days ago. There I found it very entertaining. It does a lot of things right for an RTS and finally we got one in a medieval setting again. Hell about time. The graphic needs some improvement, also the controls in combat are not optimal yet - but that is what early access is for. If you have any love for the battle-part of the Total War series but want to have some basic base-building and ressource-gathering in realtime in it - here you go! I really hope Early Access will help the game to grow content and quality-wise, then we can have real RTS-Diamond. So, please devs, keep on the good work! It will be a long and harsh road to go, but you will succeed! ;)
Disclaimer - I have been gifted a free key for this game for review purposes, however, my review will be kept as truthful as possible since I am meant to help developers and buyers/gamers. Avalon Lords: Dawn Rises review
Overview
Avalon Lords is a game very much like the Total War series but without a campaign mode. It's fun, it's intuitive, it's buggy. The bugs aren't game breaking. They're, from my experience, just graphical errors, performance errors and generally the smaller things. The AI is just flat out dumb. They send out their troops one by one when they're ready. They do not do any type of formation. This causes very long battles since only the side with more units will win... Right? Well, to a point, yes. You just need to have some more ranged units such as artillery and archers. They do massive amounts of damage to the opposition. You can finish a battle with less than five groups of T2 infantry and around 5 groups of archers, the rest can be artillery. It's highly unbalanced, artillery wipe out any enemy before they even come close to the artillery. I get that they are end-game units, but the only way for me to lose my artillery is for the opposition to have even more of them than I do. The units are slow. Very slow. It takes anywhere between five to ten minutes to travel to help out your neighbouring factions which are quite close together. Even the cavarly feels slow. Now, onto the good. Large battles are fun. You can zoom in very far to see the mass destruction you have caused. There's many upgrades, something I love in any game. Progression is highly demanding but highly rewarding. Currently, there's tons of buildings to build and then upgrade. The units are many in number and all have a different usage. Graphically, the game is not impressive even for a 2012 game. Optimization isn't really great at all. The AI needs to be improved. The game is too easy even in 3V3 all Hard/Nightmare bots (then again, I've recently played some older commander-strategy games so it might just be experience), I'd like to see some more difficulties. Mass upgrading takes a long while, maybe add a button to select multiple building units and upgrade them all at once? Maybe even automatically when resources are plentiful. Also, there's one one map at this time.
Gameplay
Buggy but fun. That's the simplest description I could write about this game. It's the good ol' Total War battles. Command your people into battle and watch your enemies either burn or your units be ultimately defeated. The battles are on a large scale during end-game. Watch units pass right through your walls as if they never existed and kill your swordsmen. As buggy is it fun, though. It's difficult to explain. Only people who have played Total War games will understand. When you lose a group of units, the frustration is real. If you triumph over the dead bodies of your enemies, it's a true reward. The largest downside is only how slow the units are, not the bugs.
Pros and cons
Pros: Very fun Tons of units Many buildings Upgrades! Singeplayer and multiplayer Good feel of progression Universal war is going on (multiplayer only, sort of like Planetside 2) Amazing battles Cons: Not many players Badly optimized Simple graphics One map Slow units
I have been gifted the key by the kind developers of the game. They make my review about games like this possible.
Near as I can tell the server has gone down in the last 48 hours or so, today is Aug. 4th 2020. I last played less than 5 days ago. I'll update if it comes back up, other than that don't bother.
I love the idea of Avalon Lords. Age of Empires + Total war and a little Planetside thrown in? Hell yeah, sign me up! The only thing is it needs a lot of work before I would recommend making the purchase. Though it seems like the Developers are putting in work and taking time to listen to the community, which is something I really appreciate. The Good -The city building is pretty well done and certanly feels a bit like AOE. -The map is very beautiful and has good terrain. (Notice the lack of plurality, I'll get to that later.) -There's a nice level up system for your profile, which lets you upgrade stats like the endurance of your units, percent increase in resource yield and decrease build times. -The units are aesthetically pleasing on come in nicely packeged squads. The Not So Good -Sometimes unresponsive units. -Seems to be only one map. -The in game tech tree that doesn't really explain what the tech does or how much it costs. -There needs to be more emphasis on formations. It's very dificult to set up lines of units or to organize your army which often causes battle to turn into a mosh pit of random units. -I'm not sure if I'm just blind or what but I couldn't find a Fire At Will button for ranged units. Adding one would make city razing SO much easier. -Lastly the AI is currently battling at the same tenacity of a two year old with a yet newspaper. Which for certain game mods is pretty bad.
Середньовічна стратегія в реальному часі, яка поєднує класичні елементи RTS із сучасними стрімкими, епічними масштабними одиночними та багатокористувацькими битвами на чудово відтворених 3D-картах.
This is for anyone and Everyone i dont know if its just me but i want to see this game grow, maybe we could help the Devs in some way bring this game back to life, please share this message revive one of the better Medieval RTS games.
