Charts
Each storefront's own chart, in its own country — the closest public signal to sales where none is published. A country missing from a list is one we don't collect there, not one where the game doesn't chart.
No United States chart position — it charts only in the markets below.
Discounts

Unfortunately, X4 just misses about every possible beat; as wide as a medium-sized pond, as shallow as a swamp. Setting annoying bugs aside, the whole game feels rather lackluster and is normally gated behind some form of mechanic. Let's use mining as an example. There's plenty of guides out there explaining how mining works, right from soloing asteroid feels all the way to self-sustained mining fleets complete with stations. Sounds great. Problem is, to get past the manual phase and into automation requires your pilots to be of a specific skill level, that level, even with mods, is inherently slow. So let's say you assign a miner (Solid/Gas, doesn't matter) to your station, they need to be a specific skill requirement to do prospecting. You can't have them locally automine, because they can't find the right rocks. Research. That's another fun topic: requires resources delivering to your station, but it's another tedious and slow process that requires money and ridiculous amounts of patience. There is also no story in X4, albeit a very loose one. As you progress from the game, regardless of start, you will slowly unveil (or be forced) to have specific events happen. There is a particular event in this game where, no matter what, you end up with a free station. Just no explanation, poof, it appears - do some minor annoying side quests, here's a station. The bugs are few and far between, but some can be quite gamebreaking. An example is when you have a relief Captain aboard your fighter towards the start of a new run. Sometimes when you ask them to get space-bound, they just randomly clip into the station and get stuck. Very annoying. I think apart from all that, the game is relatively good looking, has decent soundscapes and for the more patient player, probably rewarding. To me, X4 is just very lackluster in a lot of areas and I constantly find myself thinking "when does the fun begin?" and that is a bad sign from a game. Sorry Egosoft, please do better on X5.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

An absolute gem in the series, and for Space Games in general. Be prepared for the traditional steep learning curve as usual, but once you get round that, you are in for a treat. Whether you like dogfighting, fleet battles, station building, or trading, X4 will give you what you're looking for. The devs are on the ball, with big, game-changing updates coming out every year 9-12 months or so. I just wish there were a few more DLCs so we could continue to support them monetarily. An active mod scene will keep everything fresh for you. New ships, commands, scripts, paint jobs, faction behaviours, border wars, cheat menus, all the way up to entire overhaul mods turning the universe into Star Wars, it'll have whatever you're looking for, either via the Steam Workshop or Nexus (whichever you prefer). 10/10
Controls are clunky and unintuitive. They hold back open world content behind the Timelines missions which are timed and not fun. The Timeline missions feel like they were designed to highlight the most frustrating parts of the game, This is not for everyone
I can't enjoy this after the 9.0 update. Too many things uprooted rather than improved.
Ugh.. as a new player this brutally boring and just not fun. Taking hits to your ship slows it down.. what!? I had to continually keep trying to speed up 10 hours and have not found 20 minute of actual fun. It's all forced and what seems to be hardcoded on/off situations. I have played EVE and Star Sector and had way more fun in both of those. Too bad because the concept is really cool.
An exercise in frustration and futility. Management simulator with zero instructions on how to actually do anything. Completely non intuitive interface.
