Doesn't worth it. Bad optimized and clunky. You try to play and get bored fast because a lot of bureacracy. I always start to play to uninstall few days later. Combined with a dev team that ban people from their forums and delete posts, you better stay away and invest in better games.
Egosoft build an incredible word with exceptional ships, unique factions and a real economy. Then they compeltely blundered this game by making it NOT FUN to play. The mission system is ABYSMAL. You will spend way more time loking for mission than ever doing them and even if you find them, they suck. I can't believe how bad the mission system is and remains after 8 YEARS of X4.
Game is good. Really good. Once you get a handle on the controls, it's awesome. Real good sim for economies, fleet's, and exploration. I have been doing the Terran Cadet start and so far, I have acquired myself 3 small ships, a large carrier that can carry them, and a player asteroid space-dock. I am an Elite Dangerous player so the learning curve is high but the game is familiar. This is a great choice if you like management style games, sci-fi, and a chance to control a huge sandbox style universe. I'll post another review if I put in 100 hours total. So far, really fun.
9.0 is trash in my opinion and heres why, Kha'k xenon and yaki are even more aggressive, sending destroyers into areas like the paranid godrealm territories, Hatikvah choice and even The Void, within 30 mins of me starting a new playthrough, the best ship in the game via DLC i would always go after (the Hyperion) used to be able to put up a fight against a wave of xenon fighters, now cant fight off a wave of fighters at all. all this alleged balancing has done has made some of the best ships feel like garbage. it has killed my desire to play the game. The Hyperion which is via a DLC and player owned in 8.0 used to be good but now with all the buffs to fighters and xenon and nerfs to it itself its not even worth the effort which is a shame and considering most starts give you some basic fighter or scout and 5-10k starting credits theres no way to make money early in the game now.
I'm sure some people like this and find depth in this sort of games, but unless you are absolutely certain this is your kind of a game, probably avoid. For a normie it's an spreadsheet simulator with a very confusing UI and a mediocre space piloting experience strapped on the side.
I've really wanted to like this game, but it's just too obtuse, with awful mission design, and fairly shallow flight combat. It's clear that the main thing with the game is playing the map, managing AI, and treating it purely as a sandbox, and for those things it's probably a great game. But not for me - doing any of these missions seems to be an absolute chore where you just fly for 5-10 minutes, then listen to a bit of dialogue, then fly another 5-10 minutes, and then get told to scan for data leaks or something and spend the next 30 minutes looking for god knows what.
