Charts
Each storefront's own chart, in its own country — the closest public signal to sales where none is published. A country missing from a list is one we don't collect there, not one where the game doesn't chart.
No United States chart position — it charts only in the markets below.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.

Reviews
The gorgeous visuals and the rather nice soundtrack are the lipstick on a pig, which is a bunch of dysfunctional features, opaque mechanics and a UI and UX straight from hell. Simple tasks require 2-3 times the amount of clicks compared to a normal game. Quality of life seems to be lava for a studio which has been in the industry for decades. When I got the title right after its botched release, it was dysfunctional to a degree that one couldn't even call it a game. It would become my most severe case of buyers remorse ever and it never came with an early access "warning tag". Now that I've revisited the game eight years later, I'll admit it has come a long way. It has its moments and it did scratch that itch of an X3 veteran at times. It makes you come to terms with the abusive relationship between you and the UI. Endless hours must have gone into designing the beautiful station and ship interiors, which to this day, are utterly devoid of any engaging and enjoyable gameplay. And you better get used to looking at those interiors as mindlessly running around those stations is the only way to recruit competent crew for your ships in the vanilla game. Once your fleet is nicely staffed after you've paid millions upon millions for both ships and crew, you can watch your armada needlessly suicide itself into an enemy station. As a cherry on top, the ever so scary bad guys, the Xenon, which are always presented as that big looming threat to everyone got completey wiped by the NPC factions in my save with little to no intervention by me, the player. Thanks for depriving me of some late game big fleet action but maybe it's just my save. I sure hope so. Hats off to the vibrant modding community, which tirelessly tries to fix what the devs seem either unwilling or incapable of doing. Mods make the worst outgrowths of Egosoft's idea of "fun" bearable. They provide a shoulder to cry on before you go back to face the UI.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Still thousands of hours of fun after 10 years

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This is one of the best games in my library. For any fan of grand simulation sandbox games should be a must. Only here one can play and participate in the world on so many scales, v9.0 is the best state of the game ever and the best time to start.
I've played a lot of space sims, including Elite and EVE Online, the Xwing series, and the still-to-be-released Star Citizen. I've practically never missed anything space-related. But this is by far the most crude and player-unfriendly space sim. Sometimes it's unclear whether it's a lack of taste and experience, or just plain player hatred. The problem isn't even the horribly cluttered menus and tons of key combinations for every action, nor the terrible character animation and the general crudeness of everything that happens (that's secondary). It's the attitude toward the mission design itself, interactions with objects, and the game world. Many missions simply toss you into space without any attempt to explain them or even roughly indicate the part of the universe where you can complete them, not to mention the methods. Some call it hardcore, I call it bad design and a lack of respect for your time. Despite all my efforts, I couldn't come away with anything other than frustration. This is a game with good ideas, but incredibly bad game design that will never get better. It's big, it's deep, but it's unenjoyable due to a ton of terrible decisions.
You want to do trading? Nope! There is no demand! You want to do solid ore mining? Nope! There is no demand! Okay... there's gas/liquid mining! Perfect, let's do that! Nope! AI doesn't work and won't conduct the trade despite a 50k demand! Absolutely trash "game".
Really wish I was not so quick to part with my money on this. The game has a very steep learning curve and missions are horrendous. Impossible finding my way around the map with activated missions as half of them don't flag up, so I end up being lost and without direction. Ended up constantly going to google or youtube for solutions was not how I envisaged playing this for the first 12 hours (12 hours of my life I'll never get back). Think the only way to really get to grips with this game is to be financially secure, unemployed and have very little else in life. Not recommended for a quick pick up and play, like I intended. I was drawn to the new star trek mod with this game and sadly, it's just a reskin of the same rubbish base game.
