There really isn't another game like X4: Foundations. I've played this game for hundreds of hours, and I still keep coming back to it. There's something incredibly satisfying about starting with a single ship and slowly working your way up until you're running shipyards, commanding fleets, and controlling your own little corner of the galaxy. The new 9.0 combat update has been one of my favorite updates so far. Combat feels so much better now, and it's made fleet battles a lot more enjoyable. I also liked the diplomacy and subterfuge update in the past. They're a nice step towards making the universe feel more alive and manipulate relations between factions. I do have a few things on my wishlist though. I'd really like to see paint jobs improved. I enjoy giving my fleets a consistent look, but collecting enough copies of the same paint can be a bit of a pain. Personally, I'd rather unlock a paint once and be able to use it on all my ships or just buy them at certain vendors. I don't mind paying for it. But having to multiple quests to just be able to paint a few ships is a bit annoying. I'd also love to be able to paint stations. I always end up choosing a color scheme for my faction, but then my stations still have all sorts of random colors that don't really fit. Being able to customize station colors would make your empire feel much more like your own. Another thing I'd like to see expanded is sector ownership. It's cool seeing your faction's name on the map after you've claimed a sector, but that's about where it ends. I feel like owning territory could have a much bigger impact on gameplay. The same goes for planets. Terraforming is a really cool feature, but afterwards they're mostly just something nice to look at. It would be awesome if planets actually interacted with your economy. Maybe they could become huge consumers of goods, generate tax income, unlock unique industries, or provide other benefits that make them worth investing in long-term. Egosoft, please keep making ship DLC. I'm a sucker for new ships, and I'll happily keep buying them. Even with the things I'd like to see improved, X4 is still one of my favorite games. Nothing else gives me the same feeling of building something from almost nothing into a massive empire. If that's the kind of game you're looking for, it's absolutely worth playing.

An absolutely wonderful game. I love economic games, base building, micro and macro management, etc. It has it all. The game isn't easy to learn, but working through all the tutorials at the beginning, then starting with the Kingdom Ends story, introduces the game quite gently. A great community always helps, and it's so satisfying; the only limit is your imagination. I had this game on my wishlist for a long time. Literally a few weeks ago, I first downloaded a pirated version, honestly, because the game is expensive, and if you buy it, you have to buy it with all the add-ons at once. But after a few hours, I knew it was a crime against humanity, and I happened to come across a good sale and bought it for probably $30-40. The game is worth the full price. You have to give it credit and be patient. I recommend setting autosave more often at the beginning and remembering to save manually because you never know when you'll get into trouble. Battles, economics, factions, building your own empire from scratch, economics, training people, diplomacy, missions. A game that will easily last thousands of hours. From what I can see, it's constantly evolving; the team clearly communicates the roadmap and listens to players. Buy it, but I warn you, you'll be hooked if you give it a chance and put the effort into learning it. POLISH Absolutely wonderful game.
