Writer's Block

I saw this game and was totally drawn in by the font, the colours, the whole vibe. I've only played once so far but already feel addicted!

Great little game. I've wanted something like this for a long time, actually. Drop blocks, make words, chain combos! The different themes and music tracks, as well as the general vibe, are all lovely. Some criticisms, though. The demo is kind of the whole game! There is a mission mode but it's effectively a 10-stage tutorial. The main endless mode doesn't ramp up in speed or difficulty and there aren't any changes or gimmicks to the main gameplay mechanic to spice things up, despite the HUGE potential for it. What Writer's Block does NOT have, for example: A tile that needs to be used twice or multiple times to clear. A tile that swaps with its neighbor when placed. Tiles that sink to the first row of the board. A bomb tile. For goodness sake, a wildcard tile!!! Throwing some of those things in there would make things much more interesting than just chipping away at the board with three-letter word clears. I hope that a future title update adds more variety to the main gameplay loop and more missions. If not, that's still OK. I can see myself playing this one or two sessions at a time on my Steam Deck to go for leaderboard scores or on higher speeds to challenge myself. The main game is strong enough to stand on its own.
