The world is unique and interesting, exploration is fun and rewarding, and the platforming is fun, albeit easy. The combat isn't quite as good as those other features, but the parrying is still fun.

Worldless is a 2D Platformer/Metroidvania created by Noname Studios and published by Coatsink Software. It released on November 20th, 2023 to strong praise from critics. Worldless features an innovative 'Action-Based' combat system, along with a particularly unique artstyle. The game let's you bounce between exploration and combat, which are separated but executed perfectly. You'll also switch between two characters, Edda and Aven, for both progressing, platforming and combat encounters. It let's you discover and figure out things by yourself ! -The plot is brief and has little dialogues. It does a good job at making you understand through simple visual scenes. -On the simpler sides of graphics but extremely efficient at it. -Music and sounds adds to the atmosphere and vibe. -The game is on the easier sides of things. That being said, the optional contents to 100% gets quite difficult. -Worldess has a unique map system, you are free to go in any directions from a 'hub' like location. -I clocked in at around 8hours. I didn't bother with the last boss but found everything else, almost... -There isn't much replay value but it's so short and enjoyable that I could see myself replaying it. -Wordless is a fantastic game worth buying at any price range. It offers such a unique experience. -The control felt great and responsive. Easy to platform with. -The unique combat system has the most complex mechanics of any MV for sure. -Good range of enemy diversity. Almost every encounter is completly different. -There isn't really any "bosses", more like harder encounters I guess. They are very difficult and complex. -The world doesn't need a fast travel because there's a 'hub' system and some shortcut between biomes as well. -Biomes were different enough to be unique within them all. -Exploration is vast. Easy to get lost and wonder around. Hard to know where you are precisely. -Collectible-wise, there's the shards (skill points) and one other collectible. There's a fair amount to find tho -I didn't really encounter any "secrets" per-se but some things were challenging to find. -Very simple puzzle that become a bit more complex to complete later on. -Platforming is relatively simple. That being said, the optional world is HARD. Reminded me of Aeterna Noctis!!! -Almost zero rpg elements other than the 'skill tree'. *Worldless is an excellent game for players new to the genre and for fans of it. It is easy and straight forward enough with the optional content being challenging, complex and difficult. It has a great atmosphere of feeling lost and clueless. The most unique MV I've played by far.
