♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ love it. great followup that perfectly fits with the spirit of the original. combat is janky but completely manageable and fits the general vibe of the game (so I love it, too). music is god tier.

A good sequel to Withering Rooms and near complete game, even in its current Early Access launch. A lot of the charm of the first game is still here: The atmosphere, the music, the character progression, despite the shift from 2D to 3D gameplay. If you loved the first game, you'll like this one. That being said, I do have some misgivings about the combat. While 1-on-1 the combat is decent (once you get used to it), there are are plenty of multi-enemy encounters and those can be infuriating to deal with at times. Enemy attacks can overlap, you can be body-blocked, and enemies hit decently hard. The result is potentially going from full health to downed in seconds, getting revived, then going from full health to downed in seconds, because you're cornered trapped and enemies will continue attacking you relentlessly until you're dead. You can play around this by investing in ranged attacks (of which there are plenty), obtaining some (fairly powerful) crowd control spells, or by playing footsies with longer melee attacks. But, it can happen and it feels like BS that you have basically no options besides trying to out-DPS the mobs when it does happen. This made melee builds kind of bad during my playthrough; even when I was running a melee build, I ended using a chain weapon only because one of its attacks had a long enough reach to avoid going into melee range. One other minor issue I had was that the late-game content felt lacking and could have a bit more added to it. Don't get it wrong, there is plenty of content and a proper ending as-is. Its just that it feels like the last leg of the campaign is rushed out, and some side-content doesn't have as much content as it could have. Specifically: 1) The final dungeon is short. It is like 1/4 of the size compared to every other dungeon in the game, and I am being generous in that estimation. 2) The prior zone to that feels like its missing its own dungeon. Maybe it is intended the the final dungeon was this zone's dungeon, but again, the final dungeon is still uncharacteristically shorter. 3) The game has a day/night cycle, but it is only relevant for specific optional locations. There isn't actually much to do at night proportional to how many places you can go during said night. A good example would be the dungeons. During nighttime, your fast travel is limited, and you can't rest at checkpoints (otherwise it would become day). If you want to visit a dungeon during nighttime, you have to travel there by foot again, and you can't just rest at checkpoints to make the journey easier either. However, when I made that perilous journey once, I didn't find any unique loot along he way, and when I reached the dungeon, nothing was different (unless I missed something).
incredible wow. So much love and creativity poured into every facet of this game. It's a breath of fresh air to play such an inspired game. The combat needs a little work but it's still engaging to say the least
I came into this game after having played the prequel "Withering Rooms" which was a game that completely took me by surprise. Genuinely became one of my favorite games from indie developers and one of my favorite soulslikes. So you can imagine I came to Withering Realms with high expectations right? Well now imagine that the game still blew my expectations out of the water. It's an amazing game with phenomenal writing, fantastic atmosphere and quite a lot of gameplay variety. I beat my first playthrough fairly quickly (21 hours) simply because I played this game every free moment of my time after it came out. While I don't want to oversell it because the game simply fits my tastes...it was something that occupied my mind for all those days. Now as of the time of writing, the gameplay balance is "debatable". Since you don't loose any resources upon death (other than rare single use items that you can re-buy or find in droves), losing isn't that big of an issue. Similarly, your character has an array of obscenely powerful items and combinations of armor/talisman/weapons that can make short work of many enemies. But so far this is "balanced" by enemies hitting VERY hard, inflicting statues and coming in groups. Most fights don't have to be repeated so it feels more like an one-time challenge that you can then move past. As such, I found the gameplay to be pretty good if very big on damage numbers on both sides so it's up to you to see if you enjoy it. The audiovisual layer of the game is simply amazing - it has a distinct, grungy charm that manages to make stuff like ghosts and zombies fairly unique. The horror elements are pretty well executed and I say it as a survival-horror enjoyer. There's at least 70 enemy types in the game plus 22 bosses which means that it solves the issue of enemy variety that a LOT of souls-likes struggle with. The soundtrack is also fantastic, full of incredibly memorable tracks. I think the Fallowlands theme will stick with me for months. Overall, if this game looks even slightly interesting to you - give it a try! The demo covers the first part of the game that'll give you a feel for the gameplay. Despite the "early access" on the store page, the game is playable from start to finish without any issues - the developer will simply polish it up, add more endings and features as time goes. Withering Realms has definitely became one of my favourite games of 2026 and I'm bound to re-play it sometime soon.
A great sequel to a great game. Apart from a few bugs with the movement (character tends to get "stuck" in terrain) I didn't have any issues technically despite EA status. While not quite as oppressive or difficult (for me at least!) as the first one, an enjoyable adventure nonetheless. Can't wait for more content or perhaps return for a bit to finish the stuff I didn't do during the first clear.
Unique , janky , awesome soundtrack , semi-horror soulslike. Highly recommend if you want something different, game is early access but it took for me 14hours to finish the game, but there is secrets and other stuff to discover ofc.
Not the most polished game, but has a particular character just like its predecessor which I really like.
I played Withering Rooms from start to finish, unable to put it down. The atmosphere in that game is next to none. Withering Realms is that and more. The gameplay is an order of magnitude smoother. Ranged weapons are no longer tied to ammunition, and mana regenerates. Going full 3D only served to make the game infinitely better. Whilst this and the original had some Dark Souls inspirations, thank god it's not a souls-like, as bad souls-likes are a dime a dozen these days with only a few being genuinely good. So far I've only been able to find a single NPC AI bug in which a healer NPC would heal corpses. So as far as EA goes, it's been nothing but smooth sailing. I will update the review once the game fully releases. Other than that, thumbs up, highest recommendations, editor's choice, especially if you like the original.
Wow, a big improvement from the first one Withering Rooms. - Great, original and engaging story. - The combats mechanics are good and offer many different kind of builds. - The difficulty level is just right, not too easy and hard enough to worth the time to search for better gear. - Fights require you to think before jump in the fight, - The ambiance of the game is good. - Explorations, lore, puzzles,....
