Wings of Vi is a challenging 2D platformer in which the player controls the angel Vi, tasked with defeating the Demon Lord Jeh’oul after he is freed from captivity. While inspired by masochistic retro platformers, Wings of Vi aims to cut out arbitrary difficulty in favor of skill based gameplay.

Do you enjoy playing the same 5-10 seconds of gameplay over and over again until you can do it perfectly? Then this might be the game for you. I've played plenty of difficult games, and I've played several rage games, and I'd say that this game comes closer to Rage than just simply difficult. Generally, I think this game is done very well. The controls work well and are highly reactive, the level design lets you see the majority of obstacles you your aren't dealing with BS off screen threats, and the bosses have set patterns that you can see and learn. However, while I do think this is a technically good game, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. This game is just too tedious to be worth spending the time I would need to complete it. I'm getting to the point where I just don't want to play a game that requires me to practice over and over and over and over again to be able to complete it, and that's what this game is. So, for the majority of people who see this game, don't bother. You're going to play it for a little while, find out it requires extreme precision and tons of attempts to make progress and decide that this game isn't for you. If you're someone who really enjoys overcoming difficult games or feels like traditional platformers just aren't hard enough, this could be a great game for you, but it's just not going to be fun for most people.
It's unfair for me to give this game a don't recommend as the game has truly met its vision and it is fairly well polished, but the game has done to me as it set out to do. It has thoroughly stepped on my balls. So for 99.999999% of people, this game is definitely a DO NOT BUY The odds are good that you are not going to complete this game, even when you look up the secrets and get the arguably necessary weapons required to fight the bosses. Don't let the angel tits fool you. This game is a type 2 fun, but really more of a type 3 fun kind of experience. Some of the hyper-masochists who complete this game absolutely love it,most are happy to never see it again. Lets be honest with each other, even if you are one of the lower % of people to beat all of Celeste or Dustforce, this game is just not even slightly like those other movement platformers. It's more of a button masher/pixel platformer/boss rush/troll game thing. If you enjoy suffering, memorising patterns and hand-cramps as well as the idea of enjoying a game in retrospect, but not enjoying the game whilst playing it, (with a few multi-day attempt boss fights scattered in) you're set buddy.
I can’t recommend this game because as good as it is, you’re only going to be disappointed when you learn that the dev has not fixed some major bugs 10+ years later and is instead choosing to focus his energy on making a sequel using the almighty power of AI instead of real human creativity.
>Be Solgryn >Make a IWBTG Mod that got somewhat popular >Start making games >Only reedeming quality of games is being stupidly hard and the art >Stop making games because making NSFW art is more profitable >Start using AI Greatest fall from grace I've ever seen. And yeah, game gets stupidly boring when you realize it's just a memory/reflexes test 100% of the time.
I feel a little bad giving this a do not recommend. There's a fairly decent game in Wings of Vi, but I don't know if I can genuinely call it fun. Wings of Vi is brutally difficult, and it wears it on its sleeve. For the most part, I wouldn't call it unfair in its difficulty, but there are a few spots that either through some heavy RNG, too many things on screen at once, or just a very long auto scroller stretch without a checkpoint, end up tipping the difficulty scale out of "challenging" into frustrating. If you're someone who likes memorizing every single attack a boss can do and the minor tells for those attacks, and you have a huge amount of patience, I think I can recommend Wings of Vi for you. If you're not, it's going to end up more frustrating than fun. I would like to shoutout both the music and the art, they're excellent.
