Fun grappling hook game where you swing around like SpiderMan exploring the ruins of floating islands

One of the best early experiences in VR.
The Sequel is better, way better. If you don't plan to beat both games, skip to the sequels instead

I love this game so much, it really shows that 3d platforming and VR do mix and the incredible experiences that are possible with VR. To account for the game being short I would recommend buying on Discount if you are worry of the price tag. Also the number of hours played is lying because I played a ton before on the oculus store before I had to switch to steam and buy it again.
[This review is written mostly about how the game functions in VR. PC is not taken into account] Windlands, despite being one of the smaller & older titles out for VR, definitely remains among my favorite of the platform. It's a game all about swinging across ancient ruins, maddening abysses of sand, and scaling grand heights, all using a movement system that feels as natural as walking does to us in real life. Obviously, Windlands is all about movement. To this end, you're provided 2 Grappling Hooks and a nifty wall jump. Swinging across threes and bushes feels a little awkward at first, but you quickly get used to the new mode of transport. Freely swinging across gaps feels surprisingly natural and is a great load of fun. As you climb higher and higher, the game gets increasingly more difficult, but always remains very approachable. Thanks to how natural its locomotion is, Windlands remains a very comfortable VR experience, inciting little to no motion sickness or fear of heights, despite what the game might suggest with its breakneck speeds and dizzying heights. Climbing around feels almost like a dialogue between the player and the level design, in the more mechanical sense. By the second world, grappling will feel so natural to do that you just sort of do it, not much thought to be put into it. Your subconscious takes over, letting you move freely as if you were taking a walk through the park, and each level is laid out in a greatly natural way to faciliate it. That's a feeling not many games manage to portreay, and it's honestly great and perhaps what I appreciate the most about this game. Above anything else, Windlands will make you feel free. The natural movement is accentuated greatly by Windlands' inherent sense of atmosphere. Through most of the game, you'll really just be alone with the world around you. There's little to no dialogue except in few set spaces, and the relaxing (and incredibly beautiful!) music helps to sell the intrigue & mystery of the game's world, while generally allowing itself to be second to the gameplay. The many ruins you'll be traversing are all visually appealing and combined with its music, give the game a mysteroius, yet etheral feel. Its world is incredible compelling and feels great to explore, everything is rounded off with some nice story bits at each "summit" you climb, a suitable reward for the trials you've overcome. Windlands, throughout all the years, remains one of the most compelling games in the VR space. It makes excellent use of what VR truly is and allows as a platform, bending locomotion to its own will to allow players a free, natural, and comfortable platforming experience, all set in and rounded off by a world that feels intriguing, compelling, and invites players to explore every nook and cranny of itself. Highly recommended for everyone with access to VR.

I like grappling hooks
I love when I go to an edge to time a jump and my character just slips off the edge
