I really wanted to like Hob. The presentation is excellent, the animations are smooth, movement feels great, and the world itself is visually appealing. Unfortunately, the level design completely undermined the experience for me. My main issue is that the game does a poor job of teaching and reinforcing its progression mechanics. Instead of establishing a rule and then building on it, Hob repeatedly introduces one-off solutions that aren't clearly telegraphed. Within my first 80–90 minutes, I had to look up a walkthrough three separate times because progression depended on interactions the game had not adequately communicated: A vine-to-vine traversal path that wasn't visually obvious. A newly acquired ground slam ability that suddenly became required for progression without much indication that I should now be looking for specific uses of it. A progression path hidden behind vegetation after a boss encounter. A tree that needed to be cut down to reveal the way forward, despite that not previously being established as a navigation mechanic. The problem isn't that the puzzles are difficult. The problem is that the game often feels inconsistent in what it expects the player to recognize as important. As a result, exploration stopped feeling rewarding and started feeling like aimless backtracking. Instead of thinking, "What clue am I missing?" I found myself thinking, "What arbitrary environmental interaction does the game want this time?" The large world design only makes this worse. There are long stretches of empty traversal between meaningful discoveries, so every time the game fails to communicate the intended path, you're forced to comb through huge areas you've already explored. I don't mind getting lost in games. Some of my favorite games are exploration-heavy. But good exploration relies on strong environmental communication and consistent design language. Hob too often relies on obscurity. It's a technically polished game with excellent movement and art direction, but the progression design turned what should have been a satisfying adventure into a frustrating guessing game.
This is one of those "I really want to like this game" cases. And I do, as the review states, though there are things to consider. Pros: - Fantastic visuals and a nice soundtrack to go with it. The animations of characters are done very well. - The game revolves around activating and cleansing the world which presents itself as one giant mechanism: you pull a lever, and the world around you shifts, unearthing platforms, passages and even entire biomes from the abyss, which is something that happens in real time, something that is pleasant to observe. - Hob is a 3D game with a locked camera angle, and it has some vertical movement options, which presents vast opportunities for exploration. - A somewhat intriguing plot which is narrated through visuals and gestures rather than words. Cons: - The combat system is very bland, generic and clunky at times, having about half a dozen of unique enemies that you encounter on a regular basis throughout your playthrough. There are also no boss fights except for the final encounter. - The game is littered with a vast variety of bugs of different severity, with some of them including nasty collision bugs that may throw your character out of bound and kill him, though they are not that often, and some of them even gave me a chuckle, but still. - The abscence of some QoL features: cutscene skips, faster revives, non-fatal falls. Still, don't be mistaken, it IS a beautiful game, just one that needed more time in the oven. So yes, I do recommend you checking it out.
DON'T BUY ON 2026 ----------------------- The game crashes after the introduction credits. The support website from Runic Games is down. Most comments are from 2017. Unplayable.
_____________8__88_____8 ____________88_8__8_____8 ___________888_____88___88888 __________8888______88_8____88 _________8888_______88______8_8 _________8888_______88______8_8 _________8888_______8_______8 _________8888_____8_______8 __________88888____8______8 ___________8888888______8 __888_________88888_8 8888888________88_____ _8888888_______8_____ __888888_______88_____ ___88_____8_____8_____ ____8______8____8_____8_88 _______8888_8__88_8_88888 _____888888_8_88__8888888 ____8888888__88______88888 ____88888_____8_________888 ____88_________8__________8 _____8_________8_____ _______________8_____ ____________8_8_____ _____________88_8_____ ______________88_____ ______________8_____
This game is enjoyable for the first four hours, but after that, it becomes boring. While the map design is impressive, other aspects like combat, puzzles, and controls are just average. Additionally, the game is quite buggy towards the end; I found myself stuck in certain areas of the map and had to respawn.
gorgeous, fun, exploratory. Sometimesa bit opaque with its progression, but a great time just futzing. Be prepped to die some trying things.
Regular folk will say that Hob's quaint and satisfying, which is true. Real knowers still think about all the mechanical animations clicking and whirring and clattering to this day.
I loved this game from start to end. The sensation of rebuilding the world along the game is really enjoyable. It has great vibes of zelda games with a tiny bit of Dark Souls in the combat. Most of the gameplay mechanics are not explained and the game teaches the player to experiment and think to solve puzzle or find new combat combo/techniques.

[th]Aspecto[/th][th]Puntuación (0-10)[/th][th]Comentario[/th]

※English is following.
The ancient ruins feel is great!
This is an exploration adventure where you solve puzzles to restore energy to the ruins, while occasionally engaging in battles. The map was larger than I expected, and I enjoyed it for over 10 hours. I got stuck a few times and consulted a walkthrough site, but I felt the overall difficulty of the game was just right. There were still many items I hadn't collected by the time I finished, and I think I could play through it at least two more times if I aimed to unlock all the achievements. I might not have even realized it had multiple endings if I hadn't looked at a walkthrough site. Since there's no text in the main game, there's no language barrier, and people from any country can enjoy it equally. The world setting also had a great sense of being stateless. The game client occasionally crashed, but the cause is unknown. Since it was saved just before the crash, the pain of having to replay the rolled-back portion was minimized.
