Wildlife Tycoon: Venture Africa

When this game first came out in 2005, it was everything younger me wanted. A tycoon style sim game where, instead of building fences and managing guests at a zoo, you're put in charge of the ecosystem and the animals themselves? Sign me up. But, back in 2005, I could not, by any known means, get it to work on our computer. I did everything I could think of, my parents tried everything, we called in my tech-expert older brother and HE tried everything he could think of. Long story short, I never got to play it. So, you can imagine my excitement when I spotted it on Steam! That was the fastest I've ever bought a game on here, because It'd been literally 14 years and I was still excited to play it. Thankfully, with the Steam version (and a much newer computer, lol) it runs perfectly, and it's a great game! The graphics are clearly from 2005, but I love it anyway, and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a 'different' Animal Tycoon game.

I know nobody plays this game anymore, but is there a way to sync your progess? Everything I close reopen this game, I have to start over from scratch... I don't think it's supposed to be like that. Thank you!

I bought this game for nostalgia's sake, but also to support the developers. I found this game at a Five Below as a kid and scooped it up because I loved anything and everything related to animals. It plays a lot like a quirky god-sim where you make sure the ecosystem is balanced. Your goal is to have a certain number of animals of a specific type on the map. Too many lions? Your zebra population is toast! I enjoyed this game as a kid and once again as an adult. It's not a game that you'll dump a lot of hours into, but if you like management and simulation games about animals, you'll probably enjoy this one, especifally given the low pricetag. When I was younger, my disc cracked and became unplayable due to graphical glitches. When I sent an email to the company asking about how I could replace the disc, they sent downloads of the game AND the sequel (Venture Arctic) to me for free. That disc and those emails are lost to time, but the memories brought me back to support these creators and their clever little game.

I bought the game to relive the memories, but instead when I go to the first level I get graphical UI glitches up the wazoo. I could not find anything official on what is going on to fix it, and I don't even know if the devs will respond. If you want to buy this, go nuts, but if it ends up glitching out like it did on my PC, ask for a refund.

Core memory

This game has aged well. It's just as fun and challenging as when it originally came out. The landscapes are beautiful and the animations are still very realistic. If you're someone who loves indie games and wild animals then you'll definately like this one. The only unfortunate thing is that the gameplay music and voiceover poems before each level seemed to be bugged or edited out. These two simple things really add to the atmoshpere and its a shame that they dont work. However, there are youtube videos of the game that you can listen to for the music.

I haven't played this in over a decade after I got it in a scholastic book fair. This game ♥♥♥♥♥.

Fun game when it doesn't crash... Pretty upsetting that it crashes when I'm most of the way through a level. Can you sort out a fix for that please? Kind of a joke.
