The only thing going for this game is the beautiful artstyle. Other than that, the game goes by way too quickly, the level design is all over the place (sometimes too punishing, sometimes too easy) and the controls are a little too heavy for my liking. If you are expecting an old-school Kirby-like experience, like I was, don't waste your time. But if you want a quick charming game for a low price, maybe you will find something worth your while.
Whipseey has a solid foundation but lacks any sort of depth. There are no secrets that I could find, no unlockables after finishing the game and no difficulty settings. I finished the game on my first try in about 40 minutes. My second playthrough immediately after took slightly less. The game looks good and is colorful, but there seems to be a small lack of refinement and polish. For instance, the framerate is stuck around 30 and this gives the whole thing a choppy feel. There are also small collision detection issues that make certain sections more irritating than they should be. The boss fights are fun and the whipping does feel good, but without a higher difficulty option the replay value is minimal at best. I don't think the game *isn't* worth the $6 it costs (it *is* fun), but if you are someone that needs a greater challenge, you will want to avoid this one (unless extra content is added in a future update).
- Runs like garbage (30fps) - Very sluggish controls, no animation canceling. For example if you whip, you will not be able to jump for about half a second. If you hover just before you land, you will not be able to jump. You cannot hover into a whip attack. - You automatically slide down even gentle slopes, very annoying - The whip and swing mechanic is kind of jank. It will fail to connect and you will die and you will curse the game. - Completely ignoring the enemies is usually the better strat, undermining the entire premise of the game - Most levels consist of non-consequential enemies and then some kind of BS jump or spike that will take all your lives due the controls being jank and it'll but you all the way back at the beginning of the level. The enemies are not a fun game element they're a timeout penalty for missing a jump. - I have beaten Super Meat Boy, and The End is Nigh, and gotten the achievement in Devil Daggers. It's not a matter of 'gitting gud', the game is frustrating and punishing and your primary enemy is your lack of control over the character. - If you're looking for a short, challenging, platforming arcade experience, I'd recommend Angvik, Volgar The Viking.
Short, but cute platformer that has a Kirby and Mr. Gimmick charm to it. The following are minor shortcomings, but will not affect the overall enjoyment of the game:

The game does not allow you to skip the starting cutscene.
The default mappings are W/S/A/D (or directional buttons) and CTRL and Space for keyboard, and the D-pad (or left stick) and X/A for controller. It'd be preferable to use a controller for the best experience. (If the developer adds button mappings, I'll change this part of the review accordingly)
The experience otherwise is a very pleasurable one, and the game is very fun and challenging, albeit short. No less, the developer is open to criticism and takes feedback to improve the game, and updates have been considered so some of the above issues will be resolved (I will update the review as the developer updates the game).
Do you like cute platformers? Than you will probably like this game. XD This is EXACTLY the reason why I'm getting the Sega Genesis Mini next month...nostalgia. Do not buy if you have an issue with spikes in video games. KIDDING! Or am I??? 7.7 out of 10
It delivers what it promises, which is a cute retro platformer with a very nice aesthetic. Take the "retro" part with the good and the bad, as the level design also feels a bit antiquated at times, and the precision required in some parts can be annoying to have to retread when getting game overs. But thankfully, it doesn't overstay its welcome, and even though it's short, I'd say it's worth the low price. If the developer fixes some things like the hitboxes and a few overly precise jumps, it could be a lot better.
A visual style akin to a Kirby game, only with a whip mechanic rather than suck and spit. Plays very similar to an NES platformer - I'd say it's a very strong & stable love letter. Worth checking out. https://youtu.be/8lrK8qNZ2rc
Lindo Kirby-Like
Lindos gráficos, bien animados. Buenos controles. Duración corta, pero me pareció buena. Dificultad buena.
