The hero of the game is a child dressed in a frog costume. This imaginative kid is eager to step outside and set off on an adventure. Just before leaving, however, the child’s mother warns that rain might be on the way and reminds them to take an umbrella. That doesn’t dampen the hero’s spirits, especially since the umbrella isn’t ordinary. It has a friendly cat’s face painted on it, and, even more interestingly, this face can speak. Excited, the child heads out with the umbrella in hand. But as soon as they enter a nearby forest, a strong gust of wind suddenly tears the umbrella away. Now the hero has to dash after it through the woods before it flies too far away. The core of the gameplay revolves around jumping mechanics. The frog-suited child can already leap gracefully and even perform a double jump, which helps clear obstacles and reach higher platforms. However, these moves alone aren’t enough, because the central challenge of the game comes from darkness. Much of the level layout, platforms, and traps are hidden in shadows. This doesn’t mean the player is navigating completely blind, though. The background maintains a faint glow, which allows you to detect hints of where obstacles and platforms are located. Very early on, the player discovers a magical amulet. This item helps you in your quest by offering two special abilities. The first power allows the hero to summon a bolt of lightning. When activated, lightning momentarily illuminates the entire screen, exposing the stage’s layout for a few seconds. But lightning has another purpose. It can shatter certain blocks and is the main weapon against enemies and bosses. Its use is tied to an energy system, so you can’t simply spam it. To keep the ability usable, lightning bolt icons are scattered along the path. Collecting them replenishes the amulet’s energy supply. Since these icons reappear after a short cooldown, the player is never permanently stuck without the ability to light their way. The amulet’s second ability is a dash move. Unlike lightning, the dash doesn’t consume energy. Instead, it becomes available only when the amulet is fully charged. Filling the amulet can be done steadily by gathering ordinary lightning bolts, or instantly with the much rarer golden bolts. Once charged, the dash can be used indefinitely, though you still have to land on solid ground after each use. Unless, of course, you grab special lighting bolt icons that recharge it. Dashing can be extremely useful for navigating tricky sections or dodging hazards, but because the stages remain hidden in shadow, players will almost always need to combine it with lightning to see where they are going. The adventure spans four chapters, each set in a different environment with its own atmosphere, rules, and dangers. The opening chapter is slightly longer to ease players into the mechanics, while the other three contain five regular stages and a boss battle. Regular stages consist primarily of precision platforming challenges, where the player must carefully jump, dash, and navigate around threats in order to reach the exit. In two occasions, the game throws in a flying stages. In these, the player controls vertical movement by pressing jump to rise or releasing it to descend. While individual levels aren’t excessively long, players should expect to die frequently, since this is a precision platformer where even the smallest mistake results in failure. Thankfully, the game provides plenty of checkpoints in normal mode, so progress never feels overly punishing. For those seeking a greater challenge, hard mode dramatically reduces checkpoints to only one or two per stage. Conversely, easy mode keeps the regular checkpoints but tones down the difficulty of bosses. To defeat bosses, the player must use lightning. Since the bolt always strikes directly beneath the player’s current position, you must carefully maneuver and wait for the boss to align above you before unleashing an attack. Bosses can withstand several hits, and after weakening them enough, the fight culminates with a final blow delivered by seizing a special glowing lightning bolt. Unlike standard stages, bosses don’t kill the hero in one strike. Instead, a tug-of-war bar at the bottom of the screen tracks the balance of the fight. Landing hits pushes the marker in your favor, while taking damage moves it toward defeat. Victory is achieved when the bar reaches the far end in your direction. To add replay value, many stages also hide collectible coins. These coins are always visible, but often require exploring alternate paths, sometimes upward, sometimes downward, or slipping through secret walls. Since the coin is always in sight, the challenge lies in figuring out the correct hidden passage to reach it. Collecting coins unlocks extra artwork and animations.
Jogo lindo e super divertido!
Platformer muito gostosinho de jogar
Devil's Drizzle or "CHUVA DO CAPETAAAAAAA" was such a pleasant surprise!!! A fun and challenging journey, full of attention to detail and care for each level. The soundtrack is AWESOME! Aaaaand I loved the jokes and references the main character pulls even if they were purposely bad ones kkkk Reaching the bosses seemed more difficult than fighting them, and that's not being said in a bad way. The fights were creative and challenging, and the entire game didn't feel tooooo punishing, especially for someone like me who isn't used to this type of game. After about 500ish tries in some specific parts and feeling like I was stuck for an eternity, it all ended feeling a bit premature, lol once again, not in a bad way. It's a pretty solid choice of an indie game, an awesome brazilian title and y'all need to give it a go! I'm really looking forward to seeing more of Devil's Drizzle 💛
