About
Watchword is a roguelike deck builder about playing words to beat increasingly difficult trials with rule-breaking synergies and combos.
A good vocabulary will certainly help, but it will mostly take careful planning and strategy to beat each trial.
Invent crazy new words and use special symbols to play a board that scores massively! Fill your bag and customize your collection of pieces.

Each book has a unique power that can help (or potentially hinder) depending on what pieces you use. Some books completely change the rules of the game. Explore, and discover clever combinations!

Endlessly re-playable no two runs are the same. Chase a new build, unlock more difficult trials, and find hidden unlockables. After each trial, visit the Forum where you'll be able to upgrade your run, buy new items, and prepare for your next trial
80+ Unique book relics: No two powers are the same. Add infinite repeat letters to words with "The Good Book" or focus on using new words with "Thesaurus". Each book has a unique strength that combos well with other books.

I got to play the game (while only under mild pressure from the devs) at a convention in October! They were incredibly gracious and let me play until I lost at Trial 10 after a full hour. It works great on Steam Deck (the game says it has "partial" touch support but I've found trackpads to be nearly flawless.) Overall I appreciate how it makes me think a little more carefully than I would in other similar games, and the game looks and sounds amazing. The best way to describe it ends up being "Balatro but Scrabble instead of Poker", however it definitely uses its composite elements in extremely unique ways.
Thoroughly enjoyable game. Although it is listed as Early Access, I'm happy with the game as it is and any improvements in future are just icing on the cake.

Crossword Balatro with great art and good music. You CAN use swear words (but not slurs) and the cycle of "bosses" keeps each run interesting.
hi -- i loved this demo but the game will not even run without crashing, and the developer hasn't done anything to support it or respond to anyone in months. DO NOT BUY, especially for fourteen u.s. doll arse?
Your decisions in shops feel like they have impact, and the difficulty for each round scales fairly without being too easy or too difficult. Great game!
Such a great game.
this game is REALLY short. Barely any difficulty scaling, and the bags don't affect playstyle enough to add meaningful replayability. The experience is fun, but I really want a fleshed-out sequel; this feels more like a proof of concept than the full thing. I give it a B-minus; i enjoyed the few runs I got in before running out of content, but I wanted so much more.
Very fun. Wish there was a bit more to the game, but I'm still getting a lot of play out of it :)
Neat game, it's helping fix how little exercise my vocabulary has been getting lately.
A relaxing word game. Grab a glass of something, sit down, and figure out a great combo.
