It's a cool concept and London is a pretty nice map to play on, but it just has nowhere near the same magic as the previous watchdogs games. Wouldn't recommend unless it's on a really deep sale.
**Not Recommended** I genuinely don't know how I managed to finish this game, including the Bloodline DLC. The first battle wasn't with Albion, Clan Kelley, or Zero-Day... it was with the game itself. Watch Dogs: Legion refused to launch and kept crashing on startup. After spending hours troubleshooting, I finally discovered that the game would only run properly using the DX11 version. A modern AAA title requiring that much detective work just to reach the main menu is already a terrible first impression. Once I got it running, things didn't improve much. Performance and optimization are disappointing. Even with an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB, I had to settle for medium settings to maintain a satisfactory experience. The worst part? The visual quality doesn't even justify the performance cost. London looks decent from a distance, but many textures, character models, lighting effects, and environmental details feel surprisingly dated for a game released in 2020. The "Play As Anyone" mechanic is an interesting concept on paper, but in practice, most recruits feel interchangeable. After the novelty wears off, many characters lack personality, meaningful progression, or any real emotional connection. Compared to previous Watch Dogs protagonists, the game feels soulless. Vehicle variety is another huge disappointment. For a large open-world city, the selection feels extremely limited. After a while, it feels like you're seeing the same handful of vehicles repeatedly. The story is serviceable at best, and while Bloodline is arguably the strongest part of the entire package thanks to the return of Aiden Pearce and Wrench, it isn't enough to save the overall experience. I actually gave up on this game multiple times before forcing myself to come back and finish it. Looking back, I can't say the journey was worth the frustration. Between the startup crashes, poor optimization, mediocre graphics, repetitive gameplay loop, forgettable recruits, and lack of vehicle variety, Watch Dogs: Legion feels like a game with ambitious ideas but underwhelming execution. It's not the worst game I've ever played, but it's easily the most disappointing entry in the Watch Dogs series.
This game is perfect for a player like me, but that isn't a guarantee that you'll love it. The game can be fast paced and fun, and the unique playable character design can help ensure that no two runs are the same. As a player that likes making my own elaborate character lore, it's perfect for that. You can customize your operatives and shape them to the story. This also adds a ton of replayability. It really is YOUR team. At the same time, this is WDL's biggest downfall. Going from the first two games, with two incredibly deep and well written protagonists to Legion can be a bit offputting to experienced fans of the franchise. With no set character rise and fall, that means that the story really relies on you imagining your character as fighting for the greater good, instead of Aiden or Marcus who have beautiful backstories and reasons to do what they do. I personally love the game, but if you don't want to come up with your own reasons to explain off all of the lore, you might be a little screwed. Also we love Bagley, he's such a little scamp.
The game is more focused on aesthetics than anything else. I tried to play this game, 14 hours now, but every time I simply can't play it, it's just so boring with these linear missions. The map is the only cool thing about the game. I can't even finish the story because the game keeps crashing in a specific mission. The fact this game has a season pass is just so pointless. Rip Watchdogs IP.
While I enjoy open-world games in general, I've always skipped Ubisoft games because of their reputation. And while it's true that this game is full of flaws and definitely not for everyone, I've enjoyed it A LOT. The story is generally good in terms of missions and gameplay, and the secondary villains were actually well-written. Nothing "wow", but quite solid - backgrounds are well delivered, motivations are clear, and the voice acting is nice. The main villain is kinda disappointing, but the finale gameplay is really worth it story-wise. Overall, the story mode gave off nice vibes of action movies that your dad would enjoy: reasons for going bang-bang are understandable, Bagley is funny, and the villains are evil enough to make you want to stop them. The gameplay is fun, but the balance is quite difficult. While I did beat the story on Resistance mode (permadeath and stuff), I have to admit I savescummed a few times since it takes only 2-3 seconds for your character to die from gunshots, even with armor upgrades. I still recommend beating it on permadeath mode because deaths felt really impactful and quite dramatic, but I'd advise sticking to Normal difficulty unless you're going for achievements. Even with all that, I'll still hunt down all the achievements because the open world is enjoyable. The playable NPCs are considered the game's biggest flaw, yet I found them enjoyable - hunting for good operatives, doing recruitment missions, rescuing them from captivity. The biggest issue for me would be the voice acting for NPCs. A couple of nice-sounding British voices (even if their accents are over the top sometimes) are balanced out by absolutely weird voice lines and accents. Overall, I'm in love with the character generation system, but the voices - both the sound and the lines themselves - could be better. Overall, I enjoyed the game a lot, no matter the mentioned flaws. It felt really nice building your own team and listening to them talk and argue during missions. I'm leaving this review now after beating the story mode AND freeing all the London boroughs, just to see how long it will take me to 100% the game completely. UPD: It took around ~30 hours on both Bloodline DLC & 100% completion and achievment hunting the whole game. While it was mostly fun, some grindy stuff were grindy and messy, like visiting every bar and painting every Paste Up point. The biggest issue with the grinding achievments is the fact that locations are not shown on the map initially - they will be shown only if you pass them by at some point, so using external guides was not so fun. Overall achievments are funny and nice - escaping the chase using Live Statue emote, entering Buckingham Palace's territory as Royal Guard etc. My main point persists: Watch Dogs Legion is definitely not for everyone, but there are thing to enjoy, should you give it a try.
Although the game is unpolished, janky as hell, and its certainly the worst of the Watchdogs games - it is still incredibly enjoyable. The operatives mechanics, the story, the setting, its all really immersive and thought-out. I reccomend giving the game a shot before listening to all the hate. (Certainly get it on sale though, not worth its regular price.)
a 100% ubisoft game. i hate the company but idk why i love their games. its a hate love relationship. the game is good but it could have been so much better
