Great turn based tactical game
I'm loving this game. I am interested in historical topics, and recently I've been reading manga and watching Chinese war films about the warring states period. (Hero, with Jet Li, being a personal favorite). This game really fulfills that mood. The graphics are beautiful and beautifully animated, the story is rich and fluid, and the gameplay is great! Unlike other hex strategy games, units here are quite versatile, having special abilities that allow them to charge, resupply or gain some morale boosts. Morale is very important, and sometimes it's wiser to keep a unit from attacking instead of letting it loose all it's morale. One of the things I liked the most is the graphic style. Cartoony, smooth, but with a lot of nudges towards Chinese art and painting.

Easy to learn, easy to get into tactical turn based combat.
Bunch of units, each with special moves.
Great art and graphic style.
Fun, smooth and unintrusive animations, that give a lot of flavor to the game with out getting in the way of the action/planing.
Inspired by historical events, but not to heavy on the History class (You might want to play Romance of the 3 Kingdoms for that).
Nice, upbeat, fitting music.
As always, I appreciate this game being available in my OS of choice, Linux
While I appreciate the recent update there are some glaring issues I see with not being able to fire over stonewalls. You can have all the missle weapons available to defend a siege and still can't do anything against overwhelming ground forces outside your walls. That seems like a pretty big flaw to me. Also, for the enemy to be able to see inside your walls without being on top of them seems a little OP. The main part of the game I see the major issue of this is in the final mission. There is no way to defend against enemy missle units without exposing yourself to heavy fire that is guarenteed to destroy even your best units. Maybe if you get spotters on the wall or can blind fire that would be acceptable? Even archers can target troops on the wall with an AOE volley and hit troops behind the wall which is a way to cheat the system. Overall, I do appreciate the tactics of this game. It could use some more balancing and maybe enhance bonuses for flanking. Some troops just seem impossible to break or kill unless you get your crossbowmen at point blank.
Amazing turn-based strategy game. Highly recommend it!
Looks promising for early access.
I'm generally a COD or Fifa gamer but enjoy the occasional strategy/simulation type game. Thought i'd give Warring States a go and loved it. Easy to get to grips with for a part-time gamer, great game play and an excellent historical element. Would definitely recommend.
Hidden gem! Bought this on a whim as it was based on the warring states period (which I like) and I liked how it looked. It took me some time to get used to the mechanics but once I did I found it so satisfying. On the surface I thought it would be a simple turn based tactics game but there was actually quite a bit of depth into it. Can't wait to finish the campaign and challenge my friends to a battle :D Solid game, challenging AI, beautiful art and music.
Warring States is a turn based tactics game set in the Warring States period in Ancient China. The gameplay rewards employing tactics (flanking etc), earning you bonuses to attack and defence, enabling special abilies allowing you to decimate the enemy. This gameplay is reminicent of games like Disgaea, Dynasty Tactics and to a lesser degree the Fire Emblem series. The campaign is a good 4+ hours, and there's multiplayer for those who want to try out their skills against other players. All in all this is an enjoyable game, with a pretty intuitive ui and a lovley art style.
Fun game with great art and compelling missions. Refreshing and straight forward strategy game with a cool theme.
Ah, Warring States... I have quite a history with this game. Bought it as a part of the bundle back when it was in Early Access and really wanted to play, since screenshots looked pretty promising. The problem is – the developer was, like, ultimate slowpoke ninja grand master lv. 999999+ and at some points the game looked totally abandoned. I mean, TOTALLY. Up to the point when the store page promised us that it'll be released the last year. Like, you know. Timey-wimey... stuff. Naturally, when the game finally came out of Early Access, I expected it to be a complete disaster and launched it just to finally write something bad about it (because yes, I felt that the way the developer treated us, customers, deserved some bad reviews). But guess what? It isn't bad. At all. I know, I'm shocked too. But seriously, I can't write anything bad about this game. Even though... I kinda want to. The worst thing here is that it may be a bit too unbalanced. Even though it looks very casual and all in all, gameplay is very limited, difficulty may be a bit rough here and there. Especially if you're up for a perfect score on all missions. But aside from that? It's totally fine. Sure, there isn't much about Warring States. The entire game is just a series of small tactical maps (you can unlock them all if you want, since here and there the game still feels like a beta version and includes some features that feel like something from “work in progress” releases), some of which include more than one battle. You choose units to deploy (there's a certain amounts of points you can spend on every map), you choose where to place them and then it's you against your opponent (there's a single player campaign with a story and also co-op). Every unit type has its own weaknesses and special powers, there's a special power meter that you'll use for all of your forces, some missions include cities and points to capture, a-a-a-and... that's pretty much it. There's nothing else. Like I've said, Warring States is a pretty basic game. And whether you should waste your time on it, or not is a very big question. Even the story here is way too basic and feels like a casual take on real historical events. Which means that there's no depth, or interesting complicated characters here. And with so many games to choose from in Steam? Let's just say it's one of those games that you can totally skip without missing much. On the other hand, it's a very charming little title, units are really nicely animated, while gameplay is... surprisingly addicting. In other words, like I've said, I just can't give this game a thumb down. Even though developer treated the customers pretty poorly back in the days. It's a cute little tactical game for everybody who'll decide to waste a couple of days to beat it, or play against friends. Don't expect much and there's a chance you'll like it even more than it actually deserves. Dixi.
