About

Warlord: Awaji is the second entry in a series of immersive strategy games created by Darkmatter Games. Step into the shoes of a legendary samurai warlord, given special command and orders from the Emperor to conquer an entire island and save a regime teetering on the edge of collapse.
A unique combination of first-person strategy elements places Warlord: Awaji in a genre of its own. Immersive strategy, pioneered by Darkmatter Games, fixes the player in the shoes of their character, while presenting them with complex strategic gameplay. Lead an army, construct your camp, conquer villages and forts, and disrupt dynamic enemy forces in a sprawling open world–entirely from this immersive strategy perspective. Turn the tide of battle by engaging directly in the action yourself, fighting alongside your own hand picked warriors fully in real time.
The world of Warlord: Awaji is a sprawling island created using real heightmap data of its eponymous location, replete with dozens of temples and shrines from real life. Travel the roads cautiously and keep your eyes on the treelines, as civilian convoys and roaming warrior bands criss-cross the open world in real time. The local clans will react aggressively to your exploits, so choose your actions carefully. Strategically target strongpoints to weaken enemy quick-reaction forces. Capture rival clans' shrines to boost your spiritual aura and harm theirs. Work with esoteric warrior monks to curse your enemies and coordinate powerful coalition attacks.
Your warriors are your most important weapon. Recruit and maintain a powerful retinue of samurai. Use conquered land to promote leaders and expand your army's capacity while organizing its battle formation in any way you like using an intuitive drag-and-drop menu. Each individual has a unique name and gains experience over time through heroic action. Give your best warriors advanced weapons and armor to boost their lethality in combat. Form diverse groups of melee, ranged, and cavalry troops. Mix and match to find the best army composition and crush the opposition.
Construct a samurai war camp anywhere in the open world. Pitch tents and provide your troops with a variety of needs, including sleep, rest, and sustenance. Put up screens and fences to establish a perimeter. Set guards to keep watch in the dark hours of the night. At any time, you may pack up and relocate your camp, allowing for complex strategic maneuvers. Decide where and when to set up your base, and which direction to move in as you explore the vast open world.
All of the weapons, armor, structures, names, and gameplay elements are inspired directly from extant literary, iconographic, and archeological sources. Darkmatter Games, with the help of world leading experts on samurai warfare, has painstakingly recreated the 14th century world of medieval Japan in unrivaled detail. Historical authenticity is the core element of the Warlord franchise. Prepare to experience the visceral world of the samurai like never before seen.

Game is extremly laggy, really needs optimizing(Developers previous game has the same problem still today) Also all the trees on slops/hills float in the air, not a big issue but I mean, come on. If this was maybe in early access I'd feel more at ease that maybe something would be done to improve the perfomance. If something is done down the line I'd be happy to give it another go.
its good but omg the performance is absolutely dreadful. I had hoped they learned much from the first game but it seems not. game is already dropping frames like crazy at the start not even in the huge battles.

Be careful, this game can be addicting. If you enjoyed Mount and Blade you would love this game. Hoping the team continues to add more to it.
For the first couple of hours it kinda fun. And then you realize the game is just it! You just go to conquer from town to town. The towns you already conquered didn't gave you anything rather than one time loot, after that it's won't generate anything and you can't even craft equipment for your army. With that price, I expected more! Unless the dev plan to add more option and features in the future. At the moment I'm not recommend to buy this game at this stage! I'm sure you will get bored after a couple of hours.
This game was on my wish list for about a year and a half, and to be honest.... I'm kind of disappointed. It is a shell of what Britannia was. Don't get me wrong its fun for awhile, but definitely not what I thought it was going to be. The campaign feels repetitive, go there, conquer that, repeat in the next area. Very poorly optimized, and I say that with a pretty decent computer. Also, didn't release a 'Custom Battle' mode only the campaign, which is stupid when they had the demo be one large battle, they should of taken the blueprint for the demo, expand on that and make Custom Battles possible. I would probably rate this a 5/10.

Going into this game without having played or heard of the previous title i was thinking "wow cool" "like bannerlord but with more diplomacy and tactics and like nice ancient japanese warriors/weapons, martial might etc.." Buuuut its like really bland? Im not sure what emotions this game is supposed to evoke in me but it just feels like a way worse bannerlords and bannerlords in and of itself is already a kind of bad game. (that does literally everything better than this game) The "tactics" are "charge" or "hold position" thats it. There is no eagle eye perspective for planning battles, there is no need to plan battles, you cant plan battles. It feels like agar.io but 3d with japanese soldiers that look like roblox characters. There is like a grouping option and a menu where you can upgrade your soldiers, but there are only like 4 upgrades over all and not 1 2 3 4 but 1 2 OR 1 3 4 so your max upgraded unit has 3 ranks over the newly hired guys, which is laughable when you consider ancient japanese army structures and long term army building. The melee combat that ive seen so far (sword and spear) play EXACTLY the same, i have no discernable range difference and or animation difference, nor do i have different attacks. Not that it matters because the combat is "spam leftclick" to win and run around 300% faster than anyone in your team or enemy team. The combat is in fact the worst part of this game, there is no depth of skill to be found or had. No difference in weapons or fighting styles. No different enemy approaches or tactics, its just "press attack move" and watch very bad animations of roblox characters. The gore is pretty bland too, nothing to write home about and honestly not very good hit detection. You can block or attack, blocking seems bad tho because enemies strike with the speed of lightning so a reactive block is almost impossible, while spamming leftclick has the enemy block SOME attacks but it just seems their whole body is protected rather than their sword hitbox which makes blocking just a "dont take dmg" instead of "having to aim where you get attacked to block properly". The whole pace of combat doesnt allow for any strategic decisions to be made, especially since you cant move your units around in a sophisticated manner. Its like these super epic battle simulation games but with roblox and 40 v 40 with bad animations and bad looks and bad controls that are VERY barebones. (as previously stated LITERALLY your only two moves are charge and non charge XD) The basebuilding is lackluster and non immersive in the slightest. There are like 20 buildings over all and its really not fun at all. The fact that the camp is not permanent, you pack it up and take it with you is like a fun concept but the depth and impact from having to "pack up" is reduced to a button press, same for buildup, only takes 1 second, might as well have it auto pack and auto deploy before/after every combat. The pace of this game in general feels very off. There is just so little impact from everything you do. All the mechanics are VERY basic. Diplomacy you dont even talk to cool looking characters (think civ) or any king or anything its just a lazy designed window where you have like 2 options and all of them have 0 impact and or are just behind the scenes debuffs that no one cares about honestly non fun game design. The whole game feels very poorly put together and something i could make with chatty within a week. Even the locations are just "a house lol" like in a museum exhibit this game has no life. I dont know why this isnt early access, because the way it is presented right now feels like a 0.1 pre alpha game state. I do not think that this game does anything special or has redeeming qualities that could save it. Maybe heavily modded and or like 3 more years of development would make it a little better. But it would have to rebuild almost every system i encountered to be centered around being fun instead of being textbased boringness. I feel all the claims on the store page are VASTLY overstated. Its like me saying "in my game you can build whole cities in perfect detail" and then ingame to build a city its a badly designed popup window with 1 option "build city" and then you click it and a city appears. Then i charge 20 bucks+ for it. Thats how this game feels. Literally every system is bland and shallow. At current development (its labled as 1.0 release, dont think much more will come) I can't recommend it to anyone.
