About
Warhounds is a turn-based tactical & strategy game, inspired by XCOM and Jagged Alliance, about a mercenary squad with an old-school action movie vibe. Command an elite team of bold, stylish operators, wage a campaign in an alternate-future Africa, and decide the war’s outcome mission by mission.
Calculate lines of fire and flank angle, break cover, and seize the high ground. Every turn is decided more by your planning and tactics, less - by RNG.
Combine classes: Assault, Specialist, Sniper, Machine Gunner, and Grenadier. Pick the right gear for the job, treat and extract, and protect key operatives. Take calculated risks. High combat lethality makes every decision count.
Recruit, upgrade, purchase equipment, and handle logistics, finances, medical supplies, and downtime. Choose allied factions, build relationships, gather intel, and execute covert ops. Your choices have consequences: your decisions determine your access to missions, gear, and allies.
Deploy drones, combat scanners, smoke, and optical camo. Upgrade and improve your kit to win under any conditions.
Knock out a mission in 25-40 minutes, or settle in for a long session. Customize the challenge: go for a brutal tactical hell or a light, relaxing run.
No point-blank misses - flank + close distance = 100% hit chance.
Real ballistics, destructible cover, vertical gameplay, and cone overwatch.
Mercenaries with character and mission-focused loadouts without any busywork.
Base management, contracts, budgets, allies, and consequences for your actions.
Assemble your squad. Take the contract. Decide Africa’s future beyond 2035.

That game itself is... fine? meh? The gameplay loop is very familiar but all the mechanics are patched together from other (better) games. The story, graphics and character barks are.. how do I put this delicately.... very CHUD coded. Every time someone speaks there's a thinly veiled racist or sexist message. The women all look like eastern european models and the men all look like mano-sphere podcasters. The voice acting is very VERY bad and it delivers some very questionable commentary. Essentially jingoist propoganda mixed with racist portrayals of African people. Whereas games like Jagged Alliance do something similar with a very well done satirical tone, this game does it in almost a mocking, derisive tone. Stay away. Play Jagged Alliance 3 again instead.
Reminds me of Silent Storm,Jagged Alliance and others. Enjoying it a lot. I will be buying any DLC. Its good.

Basically XCOM with terrorists instead of aliens. If that doesn’t sound exciting to you, just skip it. For me, this is more than enough 🙂
This is very much a game for people who see "turn-based tactics" in the description and immediately start making happy monkey noises. It has cover, grids, overwatch, flanking, different weapons and all the other familiar ingredients. Nothing here is going to make the genre collectively fall out of its chair, but honestly? I don't need every game to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes I just want a good wheel. There are definitely rough edges, especially visually, but the combat loop is already fun enough to keep me playing.
Ignoring any concerns about whether or not the Russian government funded the game, unfortunately the game itself just really is not worth playing in my opinion, or at best is absolutely not worth the price. If you’re ok with a really strong level of indie jank and really just cannot wait a few more days for Zero Company to come out then maybe I would recommend this for half the current price, and I really went into this game with an open mind hoping the reviews were wrong, but I just really cannot recommend this game at all.
Just a Xcom reskin and a bad one at that
Zuusammenfassend: Kein Fehlkauf. 25 Euro gehen voll in Ordnung.
Ok game. I was sure that nobody will need raw and buggy Warhounds when Zero Company is out. But after playing Star Wars in 15 FPS - maybe I’ll stay here a bit longer 😀
Apart from the russian paranoia in the comments (I hate politics, but I just have to mention it)... Warhounds scratches an itch. Far from perfect and maybe too simmilar to XCOM gameplay and JA3 story. So far it stands on its own legs, but does not dance around. Maybe too simmilar to XCOM and not "new" enough. No bold moves, just solid XCOM "scratcher". Has potential, but so far, nothing too crazy. Soldier classes are very limited (both in number and in abilities that you can choose). Maybe just a moment to get back to politics... In the start you command an Australian, British (I guess), Russian (I guess) and an American soldier. I love underlining "we should just all get along" premise (althou, just another "problem in Africa" story).
The most surprising thing for me is that the game became MORE interesting after I understood it. Usually it's the opposite.
