About
Warhounds is a turn-based tactical & strategy game, inspired by XCOM and Jagged Alliance, about a mercenary squad with an old-school action movie vibe. Command an elite team of bold, stylish operators, wage a campaign in an alternate-future Africa, and decide the war’s outcome mission by mission.
Calculate lines of fire and flank angle, break cover, and seize the high ground. Every turn is decided more by your planning and tactics, less - by RNG.
Combine classes: Assault, Specialist, Sniper, Machine Gunner, and Grenadier. Pick the right gear for the job, treat and extract, and protect key operatives. Take calculated risks. High combat lethality makes every decision count.
Recruit, upgrade, purchase equipment, and handle logistics, finances, medical supplies, and downtime. Choose allied factions, build relationships, gather intel, and execute covert ops. Your choices have consequences: your decisions determine your access to missions, gear, and allies.
Deploy drones, combat scanners, smoke, and optical camo. Upgrade and improve your kit to win under any conditions.
Knock out a mission in 25-40 minutes, or settle in for a long session. Customize the challenge: go for a brutal tactical hell or a light, relaxing run.
No point-blank misses - flank + close distance = 100% hit chance.
Real ballistics, destructible cover, vertical gameplay, and cone overwatch.
Mercenaries with character and mission-focused loadouts without any busywork.
Base management, contracts, budgets, allies, and consequences for your actions.
Assemble your squad. Take the contract. Decide Africa’s future beyond 2035.

I found the gameplay ok, but the amount of AI generated content quickly became distracting. I hope they update the art/graphics in future to correct this, but currently can't recommend.
this game has potential gameplay wise but it's got some issues... - dialogue and voice acting is absolutely cringe, seems AI generated it's so bad - sight lines are a little janky - enemy commander reviving everyone every turn while hanging out in the back is a bit unbalanced - tear gas makes you perma blind for the entire mission...bug? - early game is spent waiting for fatigue and injuries to clear, barracks need to be bigger at start - occasional crashes i'm not that far into the game yet, I'll most likely play it to completion but xcom it definitely is not.

Had zero expectations and lots of skepticism but this turns out better than I thought. The tutoreal is way too long for me tho probably good for rookies. Once it lets you play frely the combat feels great, hope gear progresion stays interesting later.
Pure 2000s tactical soul! The deadly overwatch mechanic forced me to play super slow and actually care about keeping every single veteran alive.
Thought I would share my pros and cons after finishng the first few missions. Hopefully this helps anyone looking at Warhounds right now. PROS: + Atmospheric graphics, lighting in nigth missions looks especialy great + Mercenaries have distinct voices and personalities, they feel like real people + Good map variety so far, urban streets and military facilities feel completely different and require different tactics CONS: - Mission objectives are a bit repetitive at the start, mostly just eliminate everyone or extract someone - Met some minor bugs like corpses clipping through doors, nothing gamebreaking but needs patching - Text size in some menus is way too small, hope developers add a UI scaling option soon Its a very promising tactical game. Mechanically solid and visualy pleasing. Definately recommend despite some minor launch issues.
While it is an okey game and definatly playable it falls flat in the finish, optimisation and little details that make all of the difference to your experience while playing the game. This game is of course heavily inspired by Fireaxis's XCOM games to the point that they have outright copied a lot of the systems but there are several design decisions by fireaxis they haven't bothered with, Mainly the base side elements of the game just feel flat and basic, maybe even mobile game quality level. There is no panning the map, no movement of any units or icons across it, there is a base upgrade screen but its just menus you see zero visual change in the base even the images of the base on the loading screens don't match up with what the base actually looks like, it just fails to present that continuity like the scenes are actually connected together and interacting with eachother. I'd still recommend you try the game if you are out of things to play in this genre, but it defiantly isn't worth the price that it is currently and it certainly isnt a 1.0 finished game as they are claiming.
So in the three hours of play time I have so far....meh. It's not bad really, but I'm not really enjoying it yet. Just kinda bored. Worse part is I can't even pin down what's so boring about it. Get it on sale I guess.
Anyone wanna play a game like XCOM but without the steep learning curve? Youve come to the right place. Awesome gameplay and easier way to manage missions and mercenaries. Customization is awesome, and its a lot easier to keep a unit if you really have a useful one or one you just plain like. For first time turn based strategy players this is the game for you. Yes the graphics look like it can play on your Iphone 10, but gameplay is the focus on this one. I recommend it for sure. One more thing, this game has plenty of room to grow and get better with more game mechanics, graphics, customization options and overall polish.
That game itself is... fine? meh? The gameplay loop is very familiar but all the mechanics are patched together from other (better) games. The story, graphics and character barks are.. how do I put this delicately.... very CHUD coded. Every time someone speaks there's a thinly veiled racist or sexist message. The women all look like eastern european models and the men all look like mano-sphere podcasters. The voice acting is very VERY bad and it delivers some very questionable commentary. Essentially jingoist propoganda mixed with racist portrayals of African people. Whereas games like Jagged Alliance do something similar with a very well done satirical tone, this game does it in almost a mocking, derisive tone. Stay away. Play Jagged Alliance 3 again instead.
