About
Warhounds is a turn-based tactical & strategy game, inspired by XCOM and Jagged Alliance, about a mercenary squad with an old-school action movie vibe. Command an elite team of bold, stylish operators, wage a campaign in an alternate-future Africa, and decide the war’s outcome mission by mission.
Calculate lines of fire and flank angle, break cover, and seize the high ground. Every turn is decided more by your planning and tactics, less - by RNG.
Combine classes: Assault, Specialist, Sniper, Machine Gunner, and Grenadier. Pick the right gear for the job, treat and extract, and protect key operatives. Take calculated risks. High combat lethality makes every decision count.
Recruit, upgrade, purchase equipment, and handle logistics, finances, medical supplies, and downtime. Choose allied factions, build relationships, gather intel, and execute covert ops. Your choices have consequences: your decisions determine your access to missions, gear, and allies.
Deploy drones, combat scanners, smoke, and optical camo. Upgrade and improve your kit to win under any conditions.
Knock out a mission in 25-40 minutes, or settle in for a long session. Customize the challenge: go for a brutal tactical hell or a light, relaxing run.
No point-blank misses - flank + close distance = 100% hit chance.
Real ballistics, destructible cover, vertical gameplay, and cone overwatch.
Mercenaries with character and mission-focused loadouts without any busywork.
Base management, contracts, budgets, allies, and consequences for your actions.
Assemble your squad. Take the contract. Decide Africa’s future beyond 2035.

Reviews
The game has the same stupid avatar project timer as in XCOM 2. Widely dunked on mechanic, absolute trash. Getting my refund right now.
For a 1.0 release, the technical state is honestly disappointing. I'm not gonna sugarcoat that. But after putting some hours into it, I'm also not gonna pretend the game is bad. The core tactical gameplay is strong. The combat is readable, positioning matters, the overwatch system is interesting and the squad banter adds a surprising amount of character. It needs polish. Probably a LOT of polish. But there is a real game here, and I really hope the developers keep working on it.

Solid core mechanic albeit too realistic. I don't mind it at all the game trying so hard to copy XCOM mechanic, instead it compels me to buy it instantly on release. However, "Every turn is decided by your planning and honest physics - not by RNG.", well try flanking enemy with a shotgun, 100% RNG, BOOM! shot miss. What an amazing kind of physics. I've play the demo version several months ago, stopped when the game crashed multiple times. Now the 1.0 is out, the crash still happen again and again. tldr; Stay away for now.
Decent game, will occupy my time until Zero Company comes out
I played XCOM for hundreds of hours, so obviously I'm going to compare this to it. And yeah, it loses that comparison visually. But honestly? I don't care that much. Firaxis has an enormous amount of experience and resources. Expecting an indie team to match that art quality is just unrealistic. If the developers keep improving the gameplay systems, I'm perfectly happy with how this looks.
I don't know what these nerds are complaining about in the reviews. This ♥♥♥♥ fun. Go out and get some sun dorks. Fun game so far. Good job devs.
No point-blank misses and no bogus randomness. Real ballistics, In the time I played I saw the opposite numerous times. Repitive missions small maps feels like a watered down clone of xcom with a mercenary theme not even on any JA1 2 or 3 level. A few graphical issues and freezes put me over the 2hrs refund time once I had got to the building your base part. So disappointed espically for the price I have play better xcom mods.
I've played JA3, XCOM 2 and pretty much every decent tactical game from the last few years. Warhounds doesn't beat them. But that's a weird standard anyway. I don't need every new game to be “the next XCOM”, I just want something that gives me good tactical problems to solve. This does.
[2026-08-25] Did the Chinese version of the game go to hell along with the developers' brains? In an era where AI translation is widely available, you couldn't be bothered to use even a damn AI translator? Are you so lazy that your brains have rotted and are teeming with maggots? Does the game's price tag match your work ethic? Is it really that hard to run an AI translation and batch-process the text into Chinese? Thumbs down!
I really want to like this game and feel like it has a lot of potential. Its just hard to overlook the glaring AI issues. Examples- A shot gunner in the street should not be able to shoot up through a 4 story building and hit my guy on the roof. AI snipers shooting through walls with no LOS from insane distances and take out your men with one shot gets old. I spend more time just trying to revive my team then actually shooting enemies. Its basically medic simulator 2026.
