About

Begin your adventure aboard your personal, giant voidship, traveling between the multitude of systems within the Koronus Expanse, a barely charted and incredibly perilous region of space. Despite being considered a backwater of the Imperium, this region encompasses an enormous stretch of the void, filled with dangerous creatures and prodigious opportunities for profit and exploration.

Rogue Traders never travel alone. Gather your retinue of righteous heroes, twisted psykers, and perfidious xenos. All of them are ready to follow you into the darkness between the stars. They will offer you counsel, aid you in battle, and allow you to amass ever more power. In return, you can guide them through their own personal journeys, changing their destinies forever.

During quests show your subjects mercy or disdain, stay faithful to the God-Emperor, or consort with enemies of Mankind - your every decision and every act, even in character creation, is changing the in-game open world and those who inhabit it.

Slaughter the enemies of Mankind in a fully-fledged isometric turn-based tactical combat. Take advantage of cover, the environment, and careful positioning to overpower your enemies. When that is not enough - use your companion`s powerful abilities to turn the tide of battle and achieve victory even in the direst of situations. Our video game adaption of the classic Rogue Trader ruleset allows an enormous number of possibilities for you to explore.

Game itself is pretty good, as a newcomer to 40k, the lore is interesting and the characters are cool. Standard crpg mechanics but with a different ruleset. If you don't know the ttrpg, you're gonna have 6 different guides open at all times. (even if you do probably) Usual Owlcat bugs and glitches ranging from quests breaking or items not functioning properly. (Owlcat is the Bethesda of crpgs) There's next to no voice acting in this game, like they ran out of budget or just didn't wanna pay people. It's actually jarring how quiet it is, you can go hours of gameplay with no voiced lines and that's a real pity. Most weapons and armor are just reskins, but they at least make your character look different. Put on a helmet, characters wearing a helmet, put on heavy armor, character is wearing huge armor (even better you can pick and choose what to show/hide when you equip it. Boots/armor/backpack/helmet all able to be hidden) TL;DR: All in all it's a good game with a decent story and fun lore. But is held back by typical Owlcat decisions and design choices. They haven't learned since Wrath of the Righteous and it shows. Besides the spyware/launcher fiasco even. They just haven't improved at all.
Great story, otherwise tedious and disappointing I enjoyed the unique story premise, and the in-depth quests, sidequests, and surprises. I had played through Pathfinder WOTR, and had high expectations for this game. It took me some time to get used to the complexity of character building in WOTR, and Rogue Trader took that complexity much further. Unfortunately, the character building became so complex, with seemingly endless fine details and dependencies, that the process of levelling the party went from a time of celebration to a chore. It easily took me twenty minutes to select the attributes of my party each time they levelled in the hopes of gaining capabilities and not wasting opportunities or creating conflicts. There are 90 levels for characters in RT, so your characters often level after a single battle. Consequently, about a third to a half of my time spent playing this game was doing the tedious work of picking through attributes gained at character levels. I dreaded leveling of my characters as each level only improved a character by the smallest of increments, but if not managed effectively the builds could dramatically reduce party effectiveness. Near the time I hung up the game, Owlcat was promoting an expansion that would add additional complexity to the character builds. That was one of the final straws in my book. There were times when I really enjoyed this game, and was thoroughly addicted, but the micromanagement necessary became an increasing weight to bear. I finally called it quits when I ran into an enemy boss that was far stronger than the enemies leading up to him (poor scaling). After doing some reading online, it was clear that I would have to go back a few hours in playtime and then rebuild some or all of my party characters to beat this enemy. That process would have taken days and spreadsheets, and does not sound fun at all. Yes, I could have dropped the difficulty level for this fight, but that would mean giving up much of the sense of accomplishment I got out of the game. It is just not worth it to me. Maybe I will pick it up again in a few years, but I am quite relieved not to be playing RT for the foreseeable future.
I got this game because it says it has a Steam Workshop right on it's page. That is a lie for more than 2 years now it turns out. They stopped the steam workshop in 2024 and just keep telling players they are working on getting it back. I highly recommend NOT getting this game. There are so many other bugs, they literally had to rebuild their own game launcher this year. That's really pathetic for a game studio to keep up in advertising false functions with the game, it ended up being so dang buggy they literally have to rebuild their launcher 2 years later, and they have just swept it under the rug they don't have not had workshop access in years and if someone bring it up, they mention legal and that they are trying to get it back. And since they won't all me to post anything about this in the discussion forum I'm gonna put this here: Data Privacy permanent solution with Owl Games Hey folks for those of you who are rightly worried about data harvesting with the new launcher (which OC is using to "gather marketing data" (that's literally them monitoring and looking into your hardware and software so they can then sell that data for data brokers, it gets them a TON of extra money, likely more than they have made by selling the game to date) I am a software engineer and I worked for EA Games for more than 2 years in their QA department. I wanted to let you know what the correct permanent solution to resolve this technical issue. The correct fix for this is as follows: Step 1: Stop playing the game. You can never play the game ever again if you desire to maintain any semblance of privacy from OwlCat data harvesting. Step 2: Do not purchase another OwlCat game again. Ever. Tech companies LOVE to tell you what you want to hear! So even when they tell you they stopped or that they won't do it anymore, BE SMART! Step 3: Remember that video game companies like OwlCat and EA Games DON"T CARE ABOUT YOU. They care about quarterly profit increases. And when a game is super super popular, the real money is no longer just in the sales of the game or even in it's expansions. The real money is just like in any other major Tech company, the real money is knowing everything about YOU and how to manipulate your purchases in the future and being able to sell that data. Literally nothing else.
Fix the F*ng game!!!!
Abelard, introduce me
If you're 15 or have the emotional maturity of a 15 year old the plot of this game absolutely excellent and rad and deep and cool, dude As a middle aged gamer, there's nothing much here for me, not even really any interesting Warhammer 40k stuff. Dark Elf section sucks and I stopped playing at that point, very very much mid RPG design from 2004. "What if every choice was a bad choice?" No thanks, I'm good, I've seen that before, many many times, it is as uninspiring and edgy now as it was then. Anyway do play this game if you're 15, it's rad as hell, if you've got more refined tastes you may find yourself bored. Owlcat is the tradesman of game design, good solid work, every time, but with no art.
