I loved this game, but I can't endorse some of the mechanics in this game that twice forced me to scrap 100+ hour playthroughs. Play only if you like being surprised with unwinnable scenarios after heavy time investment. The random destructiveness of a roguelike has no business in a game that requires a time to progress ratio this steep. A mission takes 20-120 minutes on average, and about 50% of your mission completion isn't progress it is just to prevent regression. A single random event can easily wipe out that progress and leave you scrambling for hours to prevent regression.
After putting in the time and going into the further stages of the game I changed my mind and find it pretty good, so I changed my assessment to positive. Game has issues, especially in the early game, and I still uphold my frustration with how weak grey knights are presented at the start, but it gets much better later. The enemy variety suddenly explodes midgame and you get to fight cool stuff instead of hordes maniacal tweakers.
Be warned, at least the first couple of hours it is 90% watching cheaply made cutscenes, it feels like a victory to actually get to play the damn game
Mechanically this game is fine; it's a perfectly serviceable tactics game. Takes some good ideas from Gears Tactics and, of all things, the board game Pandemic. The enemy variety is too low, though, and it had already gotten dull by the time the game opened up to the "full" campaign map with multiple strains. I genuinely don't know why the decision was "what if the player ONLY fights Nurgle guys?"
I really enjoyed playing this one back in the game. Easily one of my favourite Turn Based Warhammer 40k games. Much fun. Proper difficult without being impossible or anything. An easy recommend.
It’s not a terrible game, but it didn't keep me hooked for long. For me, it’s more of a “buy it on sale” kind of game.
I wont lie, i had to throw it on easy to enjoy. Normal rocked my ♥♥♥♥ with the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ the AI gets. But aside from that, it was a really fun Xcom like game and interesting lore. Deff worth a play.
