I enjoyed the many ship models available.

EDIT: IT APPEARS THE DEVELOPERS HAVE NOT ABANDONED IT. This is definitely a niche game and I see the potential but [strike] I believe the developers have abandoned it so what you see is what you get. [/strike] It should be called: War Over The Sea because you're going to spend most of your time setting up patrolling aircraft to find the enemy task forces or merchants to attack most likely with other aircraft. Simultaneously having to defend against the absolute spam of air attack generated by the game's AI against you which breaks the flow of play because you have to satisfy every encounter before moving onto the next and when I say the AI spams air encounters I mean it SPAMS air encounters. Fleet battles are interesting. They're fun to watch. If you like to do a lot of micromanaging you can get involved frantically pointing and clicking and dragging way-points around on where your ships are going or how far your guns will lead the target. If you like naval games and ever see it on sale definitely pick it up you may have some fun with it.
Recently the game was patched, so I'm changing my review as it was mostly based on the development seemingly being ended. The core gameplay is really awesome, and I love the epic feeling you get with fleet battles. Having a large array of ship types with the ability to form fairly large task forces gives you the opportunity to try out a large variety of different tactics and fleet compositions. Anything from massive battleship warfleets, carrier groups, to small ASW taskforces and submarine wolfpacks. This game does still however suffer from a few major issues. The game is very particular in how it has to be played. It can be a little difficult to manage your entire navy and airforce at the same time, and properly coordinate them. When it all works well though, it's incredibly satisfying to pull something off. Slowly destroying an enemy convoy through air attacks before you come and finish them off with a surface fleet, watching their ships flounder and sink, it's great fun. My main issue is seemingly the AI cheats a lot. It has a much higher budget than the player for both planes and navy, meaning you will generally be fighting overwhelming odds (at least until a lot of their fleet is sunk, which renders them permanently lost). It can also make it feel a little like the AI is omnipotent, as it will usually vector in all nearby taskforces and aerial assets upon spotting one of your fleets. Very fun game but definitely quirky and particular. If they continue patching it, I think this could be a genre defining game. Right now it's definitely very good and fun, but needs some more development before it's a truly "finished" game.
Pros: Fun for WWII Nerds You can Kamikaze with planes Very Cinematic Lots of fun Mods (The Tokyo Express, The Battle of the Atlantic, ABDACOM, & More) Game is STILL getting updates (but are rare) Cons: Mods are not in workshop format (devs did not enable the workshop) No USS Langley (CV-1 or AV-3 config) [Only in mods] Campaign is bare bones Summary: Don't get the game unless it's on sale. It is good, but definitely needs polishing.
I just buyed the game and there is no fcking audio at all........ WTF!?!????
Looks like devs are back and they are working with modders to improve the game. Maybe there is hope.
