Great game. Lovely art style. For a buck fitty it is an absolute steal. My only complaint is lack of content, but at the price point, I could hardly demand more. If the Dev reads this, I have a few QoL-improvement requests: - A stat overview in the pause menu and the character/weapon selection screens. (E.g.: It'd be nice to know, if you're even able to crit with other characters than the designated crit-char prior to upgrading) - Percentages/seconds/flat numbers on the different upgrades when choosing them. - A re-roll on the special boss upgrades (perhaps at a cost of keys?) Content-wise: - Keys get redundant quickly. Perhaps either an increase in prices, a reduction in rewards, or, preferably, a more fleshed out meta-progression system to spend your keys on. (The latter is hardly relevant, as of now, however, at the levels are not particularly difficult as is). - MORE CHARACTERS, SKILLS, LEVELS, JUST MORE MORE MORE :D All in all, if you need to burn about a dozen hours for mere cents on the hour, give this a try. I loved it <3
It's actually crazy how nice this game is. Developed in 2 weeks, only costs a buck and I still kept coming back for more. Discovered a lot of different viable builds. I've played way worse for a lot more money.
Great game, and I really appreciate how communicative the developer is! There's already a new major patch just 4 days in, so that's a great indicator of how well the game is being supported.
at first blush, Wanted Shadows seems like a solid enough garlic-like. the visuals are genuinely terrific, the music's nice (but more on that later), the levels don't feel as barren as those in Vampire Survivors, and the fact that you have to manually attack intrinsically makes the gameplay more involving than a lot of the lesser entries into this burgeoning field. however, upon further inspection... Wanted Shadows feels, well, wanting. the more powerful your run, the less fun it is, I find. I like power fantasies, but when you get a god-tier build, you end up making the run trivial; not inherently a bad thing, until the music starts glitching out at the slightest frame rate hitch or when you get a build that is so busted that the game just turns into a glorified PowerPoint presentation. the latter can be pretty hilarious, as actually good games in this genre have proven, but in concert with the MUSIC dying on the vine, it just leads to a really pitiful experience. the game is also *awash* with absolutely egregious typos in the ability descriptions. "whenver"? c'mon. I am begging you to run a 1-second spellcheck on your write-ups or to just ask someone to proofread these things. obviously that's not the worst thing, but it really does add to the feel that this game is profoundly rushed, shoddily crafted, and--considering that these typos have been in the game since its release and have yet to be corrected--honestly lazy. and I really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate calling devs (or creatives, broadly) lazy, when I know that that's virtually never true. all creative endeavors take so much time and energy that is going to wash out anyone who is not earnestly dedicated to getting that project out there. the fact that they actually shipped a game is commendable on that front. but I cannot deny that the thought crosses my mind, sadly. :p
I am not recommending right now. Its okay. But the sounds of the enemies or my own familiar swiping are beyond annoying. Its louder than everything in the game. Just constant SWIPE SWIPE SWIPE. Also seems to be a problem with the wind melee weapon. If the attack speed gets high enough it just passes through enemies and deals no damage. So you lose a large amount of dps. Other than that not bad. If my two main issues got fixed i would recommend. Be aware there isnt alot here. Not alot of options for perks on level up ect. Edit * Dev Fixed the issues. It is a simple game but i had fun. Thank you for addressing it so quickly. review changed
It's a fun game for a Vampire Survivors clone. But unless you want to max out every achievement on every difficulty setting, then once you unlock everything, there's not much you can do. Which is very much the typical "Vampire Survivor Clone experience" for me. Still, I enjoyed it.
I kinda wish there was a "not sure whether to recommend" option. The art style is really nice, but the gameplay is just okay, and it's painfully easy. Admittedly I've played a lot of "survivor-likes"... But something just feels wrong about winning your first run in one of these games, I gave it another run on a higher ascension to see if I just happened to get lucky and... killed the boss with literally one hit. I think it's got potential, but definitely needs some big balance changes to make it feel more like an accomplishment to beat it. Can't really complain given the price! Hope the dev keeps at it :)
Satisfying leveling process and a great base for future updates. The difficulty seems pretty well tuned and the only thing I would want is more content.
