Despite me giving it a no, it's not a bad game, just doesn't pack enough value for it's price. Standard tactical combat with nothing to write home about. Not on the easy side but nothing too challenging either. Completed no damage run first try in about 7.5 hours. Apparently missed 3 plot achievements, but with such an uninspiring story, I have no motivation in going back and completing them. Maybe worth a pick up on a STEEP discount.
"Neat turn-based zombie strategy survival game"
*Point : It's hard to make every team member survive, but the mission is challenging & fun.
[1] Intro
Wanna Survive. This is a turn-based strategy game made by PINIX. It reminds us of Tactics genre games. The game looks rather simple, but the gameplay is more addictive and interesting than expected.
[2] Game Experience
Speaking turn-based tactics games, we often think of TRPG(SRPG). A storyline with characters that experiences strategy turn-based combat. But this game is somewhat different. The game focuses on a strategic game experience while keeping only the basic story plot. In the game, the player should save survivors from the zombies. Each character has unique abilities, and Interconnections between them affect the outcome in the battles. Everything except the turn-based strategy battles is simplified. In other words, the most enjoyable game experience in this game is the battle part. The main difference with other games is that your character death is permanent, and the game graphics and UI are neat. The most impressive thing is that simple but deep strategic gameplay is possible in this small game. This is a hidden gem-like indie game. This turn-based tactics game keeps the basics well. The game itself doesn't have spectacular effects, but the game is solid. The developer seems to have good insights into game development. And this game supports user translation on its own, so expect more users to enjoy it by their own languages. The game was more fun than expected and worth a try. The game is rather difficult overall, for its specific in-game mechanics. Each level presents you with certain challenging conditions to hinder your progression. Everything in this game is explained very clearly, so you will not feel lost due to lack of instruction. To start, you will be alone. During your travels, you will meet others who will join your party. With them joining, they will reveal new locations for you to visit on the map as well. You will have battles that are turn-based in this game. Your fights will be against zombies. Party members all use different weapons, so you would do well to try to use their strengths in battles. After you fought off all of the zombies on a map or you have reached a specific goal, you will visit a camping site, where you can speak with team members and also feed them. You will need to really pay attention to hunger in this game, because people will die from it. Sometimes you will see a health icon for restoration, and the mechanism by which this occurs is unclear to me. The more people you have, the easier your fights will be. However, they also require more food, which happens to be rather scarce. The things that you can obtain in this game are gold and food. Food, as mentioned above, is used to keep your party alive by keeping the hunger at bay. They can be found by destroying boxes. Gold, on the other hand, is used to redo a turn. In addition, you can restart a stage as many times you wish in this game. (You may find yourself doing that a lot.)
Graphics
Graphics in this game are very good and is in pixel-art form. The cartoonish style works well here.
Music
The music is fine in this game, with a eerie feeling that can keep you on edge.
Controls
You can fully play the game with a mouse.
First-Look Video With No Commentary
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IREHuEPCijs
Pricing
Priced at $11.99, which in my opinion is very reasonable.
Verdict
Wanna Survive is a rather difficult turn-based tactical strategy game, with most of its difficulty coming from scarcity of food supplies. Each level begins with a lot of disadvantages to you. Also, I could not fully heal any party member in progressing to the next level. In my opinion, the game really needs a difficulty setting or make the food a bit more abundant. Currently, I am stuck on a specific level. I cannot keep everyone alive (You do not have to, but I am doing it for myself.) I really enjoy this game, and I like the challenge. But that amount of challenge is not for everyone. If a difficulty setting can be added, I would fully recommend this game.
I received the product for free. I did not receive any compensation to write this review. A really wonderful little game. Its rare that a developer will be so uncompromising in the execution of a great design. Every single thing in this game exists for a good reason- everything is carefully balanced and every spawn is hand placed. The result is about 8-12 hours (depending on skill level) of incredibly tight, satisfying gameplay. Its a tough game, but very, very rewarding once you puzzle out its lessons. It isn't the longest game, and there isn't much replay value, but there is incredible experiential value. I can't recommend this game enough. It is overwhelmingly successful at being exactly the game that it aims to- a tight, brilliant, tactical experience that won't overstay its welcome, or waste your time with filler content. 10/10
I'd preface by saying this isn't a bad game but i wouldn't recommend it. First of all, I wouldn't describe Wanna Survive as a tactics game but more akin to 'strategy' like Chess or Go. There's little room for error and some of the maps spam you with enemies to the point where you have one or two choices out of a dozen that might lead to arbitrary failure after a couple of turns because one character is out of position. It has decent art and a decent idea of what it is but I don't find repeating the levels two or three times (hoping that I'm in the right position on the last turn) to be fun. Also there are nuances in the game that don't make sense initially. Things that require a leap of logic like pushing a character into a zombie hurts the zombie but not the character or exploding things hit by the brawler are pushed before they explode or the shiny things on the floor are only collected if you end your turn on them. Try it on discount and maybe play easy mode first.
不喜欢只用堆敌人数量来增加难度的战棋游戏。
Wanna Survive is a "turn-based tactics" strategy game where you play as Survivors trying to reach this haven called "North City" while looting places for food and fighting (and avoiding) zombies in a post-apocalyptic setting. I don't like comparing/bringing other games in reviews but It's like Subset Games' Into The Breach but with zombies... although not totally up there. You start the game with one character, "Man", and as you go through levels and locations, you find more and more people to add to your team. Each character is very unique and, although sometimes lacking in personality, were fun to play with. They can range from "this guy's almost op" to "this is the most useless character I've ever seen in a zombie game" , and that's good! It's a nice diversity of Survivors and finding the perfect way to combine their abilities and "style" is nice... although hard to do, in some cases. This game is simple but it gets HARD later on, some real mind-crushing strategies (huh) needing to be thought of and executed, so much so that I even had to look at some youtube videos to figure out how to win certain stages. That hard. Doesn't help that there's minor RNG elements related to zombie spawn and such. A "minor" thing I also wanted to talk about was the game's music. It was better than I thought it would be, fitting the game and its stages quite well
(also, the Store music is a BOP)
. It's also quite short. After almost every mission, you camp with the Survivors and have to decide who gets to eat the hard-to-find canned food (sometimes even purposefully letting some people starve so you can get to store more of your precious rations) and, with less than 20 stages and only some minor "side quests" by characters in-between (as in, look for an item in a stage and talk/give it to the character while in the camp section of the game), the game can be done rather quickly, although the difficulty (mainly on the late-game stages) will most certainly take some extra time out of you. It reminds me of old, NES-era games that were actually pretty short but purposefully made incredibly hard so, at best, you'd play them for a few more hours or, at worst, just outright never finished them. Ok game.
More of a puzzle game, than a tactics game. Not for me.
Game has an incredibly high difficulty curve on "normal" difficulty. It feels more like a puzzle game than a tactics game with how exact/perfect you have to make your moves. On later missions, it feels like there's no room for error, and that you *have* to use a certain tactic (i.e. barricade yourself and wait for the zombies to come to you) in order to keep everybody alive. In-game you can find coins to use to redo your current or last turn, but when you find out that you set yourself up to fail 4 turns ago, you'll have to just reset the entire mission. You can play on easy mode. Difficult game for people who enjoy stuff like chess puzzles but not for the average tactics fan.
Counter intuitive and not exactly fun. Not for me.
