Very lovely and atmospheric visual novel with point&click elements! The artistic portrayal is wonderful and creates a distinct aesthetic, which, paired with an incredible soundtrack, maintains a captivating ambience. The story premise appears rather generic, however develops in an interesting way and deals with various complex themes! I'm particularly fond of the post WW1 setting, it feels unique and intriguing. I was honestly immersed all along, this game felt highly pleasant to play. My sole discontent is the fact that the writing wasn't given a chance to be more in-depth, causing the mystery and convoluted themes to feel too straightforward, plus prevented fleshed out characterizations which certainly would've enhanced the impact of the story otherwise. Additionally, the last part felt particularly abrupt and rushed. In my opinion, this is a story that deserves more time to circulate and evolve, instead of just presenting the plot so directly. Overall I found this to be quite enjoyable and full of potential, would recommend with a discount!
It's an average game; I feel like this one should have spent more time in the oven.
The art is inconsistent, and the point-and-click elements don't add much to the game. The game tries to explore too many themes, but everything ends up being very shallow. The UI is also somewhat amateurish and the formatting leaves something to be desired. You can't really get attached to any character because everything is so superficial and fast-paced. English translation is okay but could be better. For what it offers, the price is certainly too high.
Short (under 2 hour) visual novel. It is tagged "Choose Your Own Adventure", but as far as I can tell, is linear with a few scenes you can visit optionally on the way. It's set in the US in the 1920s and starts out as two men investigating the murder of a 13 year old boy; you play as an attorney whose 13 year old cousin was stabbed to death, and you get your old friend to assist, who is a novelist who is struggling. But it ends up being
an exploration of 1) just how damaging it was that homosexuality was so taboo in that era, and 2) PTSD across all young men across a whole generation, which they used to call "shell shock" back in the day.
But the game is Japanese, and is let down by having a translation which seems somewhat clunky, too literal at times. It's odd; as a British person who reads a lot of translated Japanese games, I am used to seeing translations that seem distractingly too American, as they tend to replace mannerisms and wedge their own culture into things that don't fit. But as this is genuinely set in the US, it could perhaps have actually done with some of that. The artwork is simple and perhaps not the greatest, but I did like the interface. I liked the layout, the clean lines, the restricted colour palette. It seems a real throwback to Japanese "adventure" games of the previous century. The kind where you are presented with scenes and need to click on the relevant features to read the text before you can progress. But somehow that fits because it's set in the distant past. I know there weren't video games in the 1920s, but, the anachronism worked for me. I got this game heavily discounted in a sale, bundled with Slay The Alice. At that reduced price, I thought it was good. I think if I had bought it at full price, I would have expected more from it, and may have been disappointed.
Nah... The story was weak, the gameplay non-existent, and everything was hectic. Not worth the time
A nice game with an interesting narrative, albeit becoming weirder and weirder as you go on. I must admit, I didn't really like how the game turned out towards the end, and not only because of the narrative, but also because I've encountered more and more bugs as I went on. It's nothing serious, but it's multiple small elements that just strike the eye and make the game seem unpolished. However, the game's art style is great, and the soundtrack is exceptional. And there are also a couple of interesting mechanics too.
