Wagotabi: A Japanese Journey

Fantastic at my n5/n4 level

All the good points i can think of so far. - You can turn off the time pressure in the options. Speed trials only induce stress and i hate that. But i can turn it off! - Lots of other options to customize your experience. - Very intuitive dictionary. Translations are revealed, not during tests, but after, for each word, by clicking on it. - Furigana displayed on the Kanji. I need that. - Stroke order for all the available Kana and Kanji. And you can trace it or practice it without the lines showing and check if you got it right. Extremely neat! - Kanjidex is really cool. Not quite sure how they are sorted, what the meaning to that is, but so far the list is not overwhelming yet and it gives plenty of info on the Kanji, like the hiragana reading and similar looking kanji you could confuse it with. Not sure what "Decomposition / Radicals" means. Like, the parts it it made up of? Could use some explanation, but generally there is lots of explanations for most of things in the game by just clicking on it for more info. - Polite and Casual introduction is very easy to understand and well explained. At least to someone who doesn't know - correct me (and the devs) if that's wrong. Seems legit tho. - Conjugation gets introduced in a way that too is easy to follow. Dictionary starts changing accordingly when player should be ready for it. - The books menu names change into japanese once you should know the words. Neat! - Engaging enough story to follow along. You feel like you are actually using the language and it starts to reveal more and more the further you go. Neat! I finally remember "Toshokan" or "Kouen" - i actually engaged with going to a library and park and getting directions, not just reading a practice sentence about it in a textbook. That helped. - The price compared to other games that try to give you vocab is much better for far more content. - Grammar is explained in a way that sticks easier than other ways i've tried before. - The expanding journal book you keep is very easy to navigate and you can look up words and grammar rules easily. - Practice systems that refresh you on your weaker words and grammar particles. Useful! Some nagging: - Some illustrations are not entirely clear. For "asoko" (over there) it shows 2 heads and a red dot far away from both. In some practices several of those images are shown and it gets a bit confusing what each is trying to show. - Some settings i would have liked getting pointed to rather than having to look for it in the menu, such as walking speed - but that's the most minor complaint i could think of. That about covers it so far. I already knew my kana, forever struggling with the less common ones, and some kanji, so it was easier onboarding for me, but i think even from 0 people can probably handle it.

I have been learning Japanese now for a year through textbook, app (LingoDeer) and through a tutor. This game is a great tool to reinforce the things I have already learnt and practice in a completely different way. It is methodical, patient and a very excellent addition to anyones Japanese journey! I would recommend to anyone who wants to dabble in learning the basics and even serious students who would like an extra revision tool that enjoys the "gamification" side of learning! ^.^

Very good game for learning Japanese. The examples are playful and accurate, the whole vibe very welcoming and fun.
