I was expecting a Chao Garden but this is absurdly barebones as it currently stands, I cannot recommend this as there's almost no content compared to what this is based on. There's also a severe issue where your cursor is almost always off of the game itself, even in full screen. This means that you will be clicking off of the game very often, changing the mouse sensitivity settings barely has a difference in regards to this. I have 0.4 hours on record yet I've seen everything there is to do except the medium and hard races, there's one garden and it's very small unless I missed something and there's unlockable ones which I doubt. There's a lot of visual oddness and asset clashing as well, I feel like the game isn't original enough. Just stick with the official Chao Gardens for now, perhaps the game will get better.
I love this game so far, it is very cute, and the one big issue I had so far I see is already being worked on (the cursor not being locked to the game). Other than that, the only other thing is the school only having one lesson available at a time and having to wait a while for the next lesson, which is annoying when the lesson isn't the one you need for the checklist. So an idea would be to be able to cycle lessons to get the one you need for the checklist, in the same way as you are able to choose a minigame, if possible.
Very cute and fun game can't wait to see future updates.
This game is so stupidly cute I love it. Another review said this game was barebones, but that must be someone who does not play new steam games that often. As far as early access, new steam games go, this is 95th percentile in terms of polish, functionality, and enjoyability. I am kind of blown away by the cute art style, music, and sound effects in this game. Each axolotl has cute little unique noises it makes. This game is definitely in early access though. Lots of bugs need ironing. I don't see a place to report them in game, which is sad, because I think I've found well over two dozen. TVs falling through the floor, axolotls blasting into space randomly, incorrect prizes being displayed for races, buying one egg and having eight spawn, etc. Overall though, this game has incredible promise. I think what limits its ceiling is the limited nature of the races. Once you reach lvl 100 with an axolotl in a particular racing category, there isn't much more than that. I hope this idea is really explored and expanded.
Overall I think this game is fairly cute, the animations are smooth, and the music is relatively pleasing. The only thing I have to say about the game, is that jumping in I felt very lost. The tutorial screens were helpful, but overall I feel like it could be more beneficial to players if it went step-by-step with your first hatched voxelotl. As in, "Hey! If you pick up this egg while it's hatching, X, X, and X thing happens! Congrats, it's hatched! Let's feed it by doing X action at X location!" As a player that learns new mechanics the best via reading and doing simultaneously, I did feel like my understanding was pretty slow. I think also having markers when a Voxelotl is picked up helps players figure out where points of interest are. A lot of my present play time was trying to figure out how to train my Voxelotl in running, only to find the treadmill hidden behind a rock where I couldn't see the "Drop Item Here" marker. Adding a small sprint/jump would also be beneficial I feel, I had a hard time getting around because I kept getting caught on small things on the ground, the rails by the beach, and at the top of the super big mountain. I think it would just help the ease of travel. Perhaps also making the shop stand a little shorter, it feels a bit awkward visually, but overall the UI and navigating the shop is super cute and easy! The only other thing I had noticed was the spacial volume. I turned down the special effects volume pretty low, and still when I pick up a Voxelotl or get money for cleaning up after them, the noise tends to be a lot louder because you're looking at the item/pet, or they're right next to your face. Just some audio rebalancing would be nice. Overall, is definitely for crowds who enjoy things like Animal Crossing, Capybara Spa, and resource management vibes. Super cute an enjoyable, and I find the unique personalities of each hatched Vox to be really cute. It adds a lot of personality to the game, and I feel like with some tweaks and updates, it could shape up to be a competitor for games like the aforementioned Capybara Spa.
While this game looked promising, it has not been updated since February 2024 and there's been no notice of its progress or cancellation (at least not on this platform) and appears abandoned at this point. There's a very cute premise here and a lot that could be done with it as it was and is still in Early Access. I don't believe in its current state with no updates it is worth buying. If you may want it I would consider keeping an eye on it and see if it comes back to life or if the project has been trashed. It's not a bad game and I could see it becoming popular as something adjacent to Chao Garden if it got back up and running. But as of now, it seems to just be collecting dust and stuck in its current state of matter.
Cute and Cozy game, Devs seem to be working hard on updates and listening to community feedback very well. Its a relaxing and simple game perfect for adults who want to chill and small kids who just wanna play with little Voxelotl's
This is a pretty cute game! If you ever played sonic adventure 2 battle's chao garden, this is basically something very similar but with axolotls instead. Unfortunately, I can't recommend this game if you have an ultrawide. It is NOT at all optimized for large monitors! I couldn't even see all the menu options or game UI until I used cmd+F to play on a much smaller window. Pretty disappointing!
Fun
