About

Voltaire: The Vegan Vampire is an action-farming-roguelite set in Transylvania, the homeland of Dracula and his rebellious lastborn son, Voltaire. An epiphany results in a change of heart for the young vampire: abandoning blood in favor of a plant-based diet out of spite to prove to his father that neck-biting is not the only way for vampires to thrive.
The Elder Vampire doesn't take kindly to such ideas, but with the help of uncle(s) Frank and Stein, Voltaire slips away from his father’s gaze. Once on his own, he embarks on a creepy, cute odyssey full of veggie recipes, a plant-based lifestyle, and hand-drawn art celebrating the gloriously macabre!

Farm during the day with magical seeds to cultivate crops and provide Voltaire with sweet nourishment in his quest to become the world's first vegan vampire!
Expand the farm and territory and conquer numerous biomes on Voltaire’s path to chlorophyll-based power.
Be wary once night begins to fall. Dracula will send his minions to ruin Voltaire’s crops and make him return to a “proper,” red-blooded diet.

Defend the crops against Dracula’s army of ghoulish minions, hell-bent on denying Voltaire his hard-earned oatmeal shake.
Embrace vampiric dark powers to defeat the bosses sent by Dracula when his lesser minions fail.
Overcome Dracula’s power and inherit his reign through much greener means.

Evolve Voltaire into higher vampiric forms thanks to his dietary plan filled with many new abilities.
Complete bounties for uncle(s) Frank and Stein, while defeating Transylvania's mythical creatures and reap the rewards to continue sowing.
Prevail over every metaphorical pickle Voltaire may find himself in or risk the temptation of his bloodlust munching on a neck or two.
Don't sweat it. There is always a chance to try dieting again, this time with new knowledge and abilities!

Cute concept and graphics but could not recommend. Game is grindy in ways that really make no sense, poorly set up mechanics with aspects of the game that should be simple are made obnoxiously hard for no reason and the game overall comes across as a poorly thought out badly executed attempt at being not like all the other games in same genre but failing badly at all of it.

This game was fun at first, but fairly quickly became repetative and tedious. I tried to stick with it to get to the end of the game, but it didn't really feel worth it.
Really slow grind purpsely made to waste more time of yours. From the get go, you don't press F to interact, you have to hold F down for some time for every action. Even in the crafting table, you hold down the button to craft. Then you have a hunger bar/stamina; every action makes you hungry, once you reach full hunger and faint, the night time enemy wave begins. That's ok, but next day, your hunger is still 100%, what you have to do is plant and grow more food, so you can eat and take more actions in the day time. Tile a field +5 hunger, plant seed +5 hunger, if you don't have water, go find a water plant and shake it +5 hunger, water droplets spawns and start running around and you have to go after and catch them all for some time wasting your time running around, water the plant +5 hunger, Eat the vegetable -17 hunger. Although there are subtexts on seeds encyclopedia giving hints to how to double the yield, mostly by planting same two seeds side by side, still collecting resources all over the map and farming was the most boring, repetitive and time wasting thing. You want a watering well that collects some water daily, it needs 2 planks, 2 bricks to build; so you need to craft those from 20 wood and 20 stones; where would you find wood and stone is mostly to run around in the day time, reach every corner of the map and touch every tree and every grave along the way, hope for a resource to drop, collect 10 of them and turn to usable resource for your building. It is just wasting time. There are some free action fruit bushes around, you shake it, drops some fruit and gives -2 hunger each. Every day you run left and right the whole map. Look for treasure dig-sites, collect fruit and water, feed Cthulu for some seeds, turn excess seeds to little bit of experience, faint in the day from hunger, start the night defense, rinse and repeat. There are upgrades to buildings and plants but doesn't make the game any faster probably up until the mid-end game. If you lose your house, you drop some of your inventory but gain -50 hunger, it might even be better to lose. And the Uncle Stein NPC that gives you quests, talks, talks and talks, just doesn't shut up. Just no. It could be better if it was purely top-down base building tower defense without a character and you didn't have to run around everyday to collect resources so long. -------- I wanted to give another chance after submitted my review. I have launched the game and when I started my save it tried to load, it froze and crashed both the game and the Steam as well. Steam restarted. And I tried second time, same as before, the game launched and when I tried to start my save file, it froze, crashed the Steam and crashed my Browser too, and I couldn't do much but to restart the PC. I am not going to try third time.
I wanted to like it so bad, because the premise and artstyle are so good. It's nicely polished and the soundtrack and feedback sounds add to the theme. The days are relaxing (when everything plays out). Uncles Frank and Stein talked a bit too much and I basically skipped that every time - but that's a me-problem. The quests they give you are virtually useless and after a few weeks, I found myself ignoring them. The compatibility of different crops are a good way to get players to plan their crop layout, I loved that, but it gets annoying quickly. Plus, most of the food-crops you can plant are not worth the care, since you need large amounts of food to do anything at daytime. I only found myself planting one set of fields and protecting that at night - anything else gets destroyed anyway. The game makes recovery after a failed run very hard. If even some of your crops get destroyed, that's a setback of several days and sometimes, you find yourself without any food. And that means running around the map to harvest some minorly-filling berries. And that gets me to the worst part of the game: The absolute USELESS running around you HAVE to do, to get wood and stone. I spent maybe 80% of my time running circles in the forest. And then, when you finally have enough planks and bricks for that defense tower, it hardly protects your crops anyway. The final straw when I quit: I grinded 20 minutes in that stupid, repetitive (but very cute, I admit) carnival to get the mystery boss box. At night, I was chasing the boss around at the other side of the map and my house got destroyed. The boss doesn't come back, so I was playing all the minigames for nothing. That was enough for me. When it was good, it was fun. But it gets repetitive too quickly and therefore is not worth the price for me. I understand people liking this game, so I guess I was not the target audience. It's not relaxing enough for a farming sim and not action enough for a roguelite.
Poor game balance: The overall lack of balance significantly undermines the experience. Outside the tutorial, building defensive towers becomes a tedious necessity. Frustrating resource management: Most farm plots must be used for offensive crops rather than food, making survival unnecessarily difficult. Overreliance on gems: Almost every aspect of progression (unlocks, barriers, and craftables) requires gems, which are scarce. This creates a sense of artificial padding. Repetitive and unrewarding tasks: A considerable amount of time is spent on monotonous chores like digging and foraging, with minimal and randomized rewards. Overwhelming enemy spawns: The constant flood of enemies makes it impossible to focus. Leaving the main base even briefly often results in major setbacks and the need to repeat tedious tasks.
it looks cute is the nicest thing i can say about this game. i don't think it's a very fun tower defense or roguelike game.
divertidinho porem meio repetitivo, mas da pra dale pq a trilha sonora é gostosinha e a arte é bonita, da pra usar de fumódromo dos games e ficar de boa relaxando
