Its been a few years since the first game, but this one felt just as punishing. This was a great rage inducing platformer just as I had hoped it would be.
Even in easy mode I can't finish the first stage! If you are a masochist, then this is your game. 10/10
Terrible time. If a game expects the player to replay the same stupid levels and areas over and over and over again, it should at least have platforming that's inherently fun. Instead this has some of the most annoying and boring set of controls of any game I've ever played. Genuinely horrible experience.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

in some ways i don't like it as much as the original but it's a worthy successor
The good
- More armor and multiple gear pieces don't come off in a single hit - Menu music - More and improved gear - More power-ups - Longer levels
Just awful and strange changes
- Some stupid oversights to key bindings. Can't bind right click to the spear throw or the map zoom out to the tab key like you could in the first despite still being able to bind left click to swing the sword and right click to several other binds that work. - Changing the distinct red skeleton to a second blue skeleton is strange. Unsure if it has to do with an environmental change or what. - There's way too many checkpoints which also keep all of your equipment. There's an extremely lame strategy where you can just back out and retry at the checkpoint with your equipment if you get hit. I do however like how you can break them for a higher score. - Dying too many times induces undead mode which allows you to choose "easy" and beat the entire game in god mode completely trivializing a lot of achievements. If you choose "standard" on undead mode instead you simply continue with no changes but you get the undead ending which is how undead mode should be all the time because that's basically how the original Volgarr's 1st ending path played out. I don't think adding an outright god mode is how any game should implement their easier mode. - Another problem arises with what should be the Valkyrie path equivalent in the fact that you start with multiple lives and gain them back way too easy. When you do eventually die and have to click continue, it sends you back to the menu and you have to create another save and delete the last one instead of just trying again from the start of the game which feels janky. Lastly, when you do click continue to go to the main menu that original save file still exists and isn't undead like it should now be, it's still human?? What's the point of clicking retry if you can just back out with continue and go back in.
Final thoughts
I think the game overall is an improvement to the first despite some questionable changes and if they optimize some of it they could easily make a third game that exceeds expectations.
Under water jump mechanic is not well optimize, and a lot of death in this game is caused by poor control optimization. Would not recommend.
