SECOND! I've enjoyed each of the games in this series, and 2 and 3 have each made minor improvements over their predecessors. In other words, if you liked the others, you'll probably like this one a little more.
FIRST! Very satisfying gameplay like always. Tough but fair.
Quality Control to Major Fix: got a situation here. As much as I could [strike]ignore[/strike] tolerate the imperfections of the previous, the culmination to this hopeful trifecta leaves too many broken eggs in its wake. Seep may have finally gotten it through their collective conscious that grinding is unacceptable, but inability to solve other problems is boosted by a rash of horrible and new, such as cheap, hideous replacements for old enemies (i.e. green dragons drop ghost fodder, fugly bare-animated skele-dogs, frenetic snow furballs); a very unbalanced stage lineup tossed between easy, dodge heavy, and jackrabbit jump precise; and the threat of new gimmick related glitches. Still, there's more. Whether due acquisition or use of the Magpie Spell is uncertain, but a cost glitch wiped out excess amounts of my gold in the Item Shop. First, I got "overcharged" 1K for a magic up, next time it wiped all 4,1XX assets for a final one. In addition, the new "dodge" mechanic in conjunction with any hit or pause accidents may result in any number of oddities (personally, I loved the hero's slow, transparent rise to the first available platform, I lmao'd). Almost it: the game also missed rewarding achievements, but going back and re-fulfilling the conditions cleared that up--i.e. no 3rd World complete, just refight the 3rd boss, ofc win. There's also some stages and music that people may find strange, unappealing, or at appearance, simply not retro. This is understandable. For me, it was the only actual enjoyable part of the experience: namely, the crystal caves (World 3), reminded me of The Discoloured Wall from Bloodlines, or perhaps bits of SotN. TLDR? Too bad. Nothing to sum up today. Unfortunately, nothing's enough to save this entry a non-recommend. Maybe in a month or so... the game's still kinda new, I'll see if any of these horrors has been rectified. Till then, we'll see if our hero with a half (short) sword has been empowered against the enemies new and old threatening to take him and this nifty little franchise down. Wish him luck. It ain't casual. He's gonna need it.
What I can say! It's really a GREAT GAME! In the beginning the graphics/style let me remember prince of Persia for MS-DOS But once I started playing, I noticed the difference (1) It's easy to die in this game (I like this part so much) (2) Moving screen uses scrolling (Instead of switching the full screen to another room) (3) Many enemies which is fun
This is my first time playing a game in this series. The game is tough but it's fair so you can get through the game just fine. I struggled fighting the first boss cause i was trying rush through the fight. I wish i knew about this game series sooner but after playing this game i'm going to play the first two games in this series.
(Note: Those energy bolts up top? Is for dashing.................. Press "V"........ Not sure of controller equivalent.) S&B 1: Money grind was sky high. S&B 2: I couldn't jump on the platform on the first level of the first area. S&B 3: Everything in this one was... Just right. I did it. I actually did it. I got the True End. I can't believe it. So this game... I approve of. Very much so.
Always as good as the previous ones, go for it!
