After losing contact with a space station on mars, you are sent to retrieve a high value item for the company. It didn’t take very long for our protagonist to find out that something went very very wrong in this place. Use stealth to get past your enemies or run for your life hoping that they don't catch up and explode in your face.

An enjoyable and cheap minecraft quality game where you try and avoid exploding zombies. It took me just over half hour to complete it, however there were two gamebreaking bugs, one of which forced me to restart the game entirely, did annoy me slightly. Usually something like that would result in a negative review, however the game being short and still fun on a second playthrough didn't affect me too much.
Visceral Cubes is a compact, low-budget survival horror experience developed and published by Ominous Entertainment that leans heavily into atmosphere, tension, and minimalist design rather than narrative exposition or mechanical complexity. From the moment the player arrives at its desolate space station setting, the game establishes a tone of isolation and unease, drawing on familiar science-fiction horror themes of abandoned facilities, failed experiments, and unseen dangers lurking in narrow corridors. It is a title that makes its intentions clear early on: survival comes first, understanding comes later—if at all. The premise places the player in the role of an operative sent to retrieve a valuable object after contact with a remote station is mysteriously lost. What initially seems like a routine mission quickly devolves into a struggle to stay alive as hostile entities roam the station’s interior. Storytelling is deliberately sparse, conveyed through brief environmental clues and fragmented text rather than cutscenes or dialogue. This approach reinforces the sense of disorientation and dread, but it also means the narrative often feels secondary to moment-to-moment survival. Players are left to infer what happened, piecing together context from the station’s ruined state rather than being guided through a structured plot. Gameplay in Visceral Cubes emphasizes evasion over confrontation. While the player does have limited means to interact with enemies, direct combat is rarely encouraged and often risky. Hostile creatures behave erratically, sometimes exploding violently when killed, which can turn even a successful encounter into a dangerous situation. As a result, sneaking past threats, hiding, or sprinting away becomes the primary survival strategy. This design choice heightens tension, as every encounter forces quick decisions about whether to engage, flee, or attempt to slip by unnoticed. The lack of a robust combat system reinforces the feeling of vulnerability that defines the game’s horror identity. Level design consists largely of tight corridors, small rooms, and interconnected passageways that loop back on themselves. This claustrophobic layout supports the game’s oppressive atmosphere, but it can also lead to confusion, especially when objectives are unclear. Navigation often requires trial and error, with players retracing their steps while avoiding enemies that may reappear unpredictably. While this reinforces the sense of being trapped in a hostile environment, it can also feel frustrating when combined with limited guidance and repetitive visual spaces. Visually, Visceral Cubes adopts a stark, utilitarian aesthetic reminiscent of early indie horror titles. Textures and models are simple, but effective lighting and shadow placement do much of the heavy lifting in creating tension. Dimly lit hallways, flickering lights, and sudden movement in the distance keep players on edge even when nothing is actively attacking. The sound design plays a crucial role here, with ambient noises, distant echoes, and abrupt audio cues contributing to a constant feeling of unease. While the presentation lacks polish, it succeeds in establishing mood through restraint rather than spectacle. The game’s pacing is brisk, with most playthroughs lasting a relatively short amount of time. This brevity works both for and against the experience. On one hand, it prevents the limited mechanics and environments from wearing out their welcome. On the other, it leaves little room for escalation or variety, making the experience feel more like a tense vignette than a fully developed horror journey. Replayability is minimal, as there are few alternate paths or systems to explore once the core experience is completed. Overall, Visceral Cubes is best understood as a modest, atmospheric horror experiment rather than a fully fleshed-out survival horror game. Its strengths lie in its ability to create tension with limited resources, using sound, lighting, and vulnerability to keep players uneasy throughout its short runtime. Its weaknesses stem from the same minimalism, including unclear objectives, limited narrative depth, and repetitive environments. For players who enjoy brief, intense horror experiences and are willing to forgive rough edges in favor of mood and tension, Visceral Cubes offers a stark and unsettling journey that delivers exactly what its scope allows—nothing more, and nothing less. Rating: 6/10
Neat little game. Takes about 30 minutes to complete. By the time you complete the game, you may get all the achievements. The stealth part of the game is very weak, it is more feasible to grab enemies attention and then outrun them. I highly recommend this game for achievement hunters. It is worth the $0.49 price.
