VirtuaVerse is a challenging old school cyberpunk point & click adventure set in a future not so far away narrating tales of technomancers, AVR graffiti writers, hacker groups, tribes of cryptoshamans, digital archeology, epic cyberwars and virtual reality debauchery.

A game with OUTSTANDING Music, Great Pixel Art and an interesting story - VirtuaVerse is a great game, even if my interest in Point and Click games is incredibly low. Unfortunately though, the game is broken at Version 1.38, and I had to do some work arounds to progress further, but it still does not change the fact that this is a great game.

Haven't played Point and clicks back in the day, so this one is my first. Considering others opinions, it seems like it sits nicely among the classics. It has a nice representation of a bleak dystopian future, a mix of Blade Runner and 90s retrowave hacking aesthetic. It also has many nice remarks about where our technologies, and moreso how governments and big corporations shape them are headed. Artstyle is awesome, sound is peak. While the story is set in a bleak future, the gameplay and its logic is very goofy. Sometimes too much, as if I wouldn't use a guide every now and then, I would throw my whole PC into trash. Story itself is nice if you take it at intended level of seriousness, but the nuance wasn't always handled well - you are sometimes too much of an uncaring ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ considering all the options that could've been realistically taken. This game is truly a love letter to point and clicks and retrofuture 90s master hacker vibes.

To start, I liked this game a lot! The demo got me hooked and the art and soundtrack blew me away, it really captured that old school vibe in some parts. A lot of love was put into this project and you can feel that while playing. There's tons of detail, great soundtrack, beautiful animations, it runs smoooth. The puzzles were super fun and easy for the first half and I love the mechanic where you travel on your bike from place to place. (Was kind of disappointing only getting to use that for the first third of the game though.) All of this is what made me fall in love with this game. All that being said, I have a few critiques for sure. The second half of the game
(after the slums when you're in Nuwaka)
definitely got kind of boring for me, it felt like the vibe changed completely and the puzzles got pretty hard. Had to use a walkthrough a few times.
I also felt like the story took a turn I didn't expect, we went from some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hacker guy to saving the world so fast, it was a bit jarring. The ending was definitely lackluster and disappointing after spending 10 hours on it. I'd feel very different if it were maybe a 2-3 hr gameplay, but it took 2 days for me to finish it just to die lol. And while I usually appreciate the martyr concept, I don't feel like we care enough about our character for it to work. It would've been nice to escape and get a few cutscenes with Jay, or get to interact with the world more and our favorite characters after "saving the world."
Overall, I would definitely recommend the game to point and click enthusiasts, but the recommendation would be more for the gameplay and nostalgia than the story itself.
