Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1/day in the week to Aug 24 → 1.43/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About
As you turn the pages, you'll make choices, face down enemies, and grow. You can charge in with a sword in hand, talk your way out of danger, or simply ignore it and keep walking.
Every choice you make and every roll of the dice changes the way the world responds to you.
Yoshio Nishimura, a 30-year veteran of the games industry from Vanillaware (Odin Sphere, Dragon's Crown, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim), spent six years in a remote Japanese mountain village crafting this game on his own.
Every single one of the 300+ illustrations was drawn by his own hand. No generative AI was used at any stage. This game has a soul that can only be found in something truly handmade.
Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, Dungeon Meshi — Beneath the fantasy worlds we celebrate today lie the gamebooks and tabletop RPGs that first gave them form.
Veritas Tales returns to that moment — to the true weight and texture of swords, sorcery, and rolls of the dice. Savor once again what we first called fantasy, on pages that remember how it all began.

Amazing artwork, as expected of a vanillaware veteran. Good music that doesnt become annoying. Gameplay is what is advertised, a digital chose your own adventure book. I'll say the atmosphere is pretty dense. The story feels adequate for the material, even emulating some of the weirdness from classic gamebooks. Finished the game in my first sitting once using havelock, had fun. Will try the witch girl now and see if there's any different endings. The ending I got for Havelock felt pretty definite. lol
It's buggy and short and has no real support. But it sure was a fun game to play. Very pretty too.

I see the vision, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The RNG in this game is more focused around making things tedious rather than keeping you on your toes. For example, near the start of the game, I was thrown into a situation where I had to roll above a 2 on a 6 sided die. I didn't get a choice in the matter. But I rolled a 1 and died instantly. So, I loaded an autosave, rolled a 1 again and died instantly. That's just kinda how the game can be sometimes. The story isn't much of a draw, it's fairly simple and lacking in depth. And the game wants you to play it twice. The wizard does at least warn you when the game starts that he wrote this book when he was young and isn't optimistic about the quality. I dunno man. Go play Steve Jackson's Sorcery! instead. You can grab all 4 parts on Steam.
The artwork is gorgeous in a remarkably unique way, the story has a lot of depth and mystery to it. Basiscape provides a beautiful soundtrack as always. The game does a great job making you want keep turning the page to see what happens next. I did have a minor interface issues, there aren't any window settings. The game opened in a full HD window but was offset so the top of the screen was cut off. Used Alt+Enter to fullscreen the game and that worked fine. Don't let that deter you from enjoying a truly unique gem of a game.
+ Good fantasy genre music, catchy battle bgm, thanks Basiscape + Art is good, love the Vanillaware aesthetic + If you're into short game, it's a short one, probably 5-6 hours for one playthrough + I think the story is good. I don't mind the simple plot. The pacing is fine. At least I'm not bored, there are many interesting stuff that keeps it going.
This choose your own adventure book with a tabletop RPG system combined with the wonderful artwork of Yoshio Nishimura makes for a great time RNG can definitely kick your ass sometimes but with easy access to saves, it can be as punishing as you want it to be. A bit of a bummer that there's no classic Rogue playable character to complete the classic RPG trio with the already available Warrior and Mage characters, oh well.
A superb and richly detailed love letter to choose your own adventure books plussed up with the advantages of being a real video game allowing for fairly extensive inventory management to supplement the multiple choice exploration. We need more indie devs to move to the mountains and make passion projects.
Great game. Needs some work on the interface to bring it up to par to similar VN. Badly needs the ability to look at the inventory when you're on the map screen
If I could throw more money at this game I would.
I grew up with the Fighting Fantasy series, and this game brought back all the memories of playing through one of these stories. Should I fight this monster? Should I use a health potion now or save it for later? Do I trust this person? It was also great to see and hear all the little details that made Vanillaware games so immersive. Well worth buying for the price.
