Espectacular.
The game is an absolute marvel. The artwork is very refreshing, the soundtrack is great, and best of all, the gameplay is very enjoyable. It's easy to replay, and each game is different from the last. I highly recommend it.
This card game inspired by fruits and vegetables is incredibly fun. I loved its mechanics and smooth flow — it has a great level of difficulty, and with its art and sound, you can tell it’s a project made with care.
At long last, my love of gangster movies and anthropomorphic produce have finally come together in a videogame! A game unfortunately called... Vegangsters. Horrible right? Well don’t let the bad name scare you off. There’s a lot of fun to be had with this Rogue-lite, Deck-battler, even if the name sucks. It’s a Turn-based, Strategy, Card game featuring a unique setting and a quirky art style. But what really makes the game awesome, is the racing meter at the top of the screen. During combat you and your opponent race to checkpoints where you play your attack or defense cards. Every card you play speeds you up or slows you down. This game mechanic adds an extra layer of strategy when deciding what card to play next. Very original, very fun! The game is a little short, with limited enemies to battle. But the main problem with the game is it’s title. Vegangsters? Really? I guess that’s supposed to be a portmanteau of vegan gangsters? Which doesn’t make sense, because there are no vegans in this game. There’s personified vegetables, but they aren’t eating each other. Now that I think about it, gangsters is a misnomer as well. The enemies you battle are thugs and street toughs but they don’t seem to be affiliated with each other or any “gang” as far as I could tell. So why call it Vegangsters? I don't understand. Don’t people make fun of vegans? All I'm saying is, if I made a game, I wouldn’t give it a confusing name that makes you sounds stupid when you say it out loud. But that’s just me. Anyway, would I recommend this game? Definitely! Check it out.
I am right on the fence about recommending this game. Because it is not too pricey and I am still playing it, I am giving it a soft recommendation, but I think that the game could be much better with a few more elements of control. I would like some choices at the beginning of the run, and it really feels like there needs to be more opportunities to shop and heal. The events are annoying. They are almost always more bad than good. I understand the idea of everything being a trade off, but it seems like one is usually better off avoiding events. Also, there needs to be more opportunities to remove cards. I recommend the game, but it is a 7.5/10 as it is now. I love the speed mechanic, but the player needs to have a bit more control. There are too few opportunities to really employ strategy.
Having had a first look at the game, I think I've begun to appreciate and get used to the speed mechanic, and consideration of how to make the best use of gaining and ceding initiative in my runs. It's a new take on the attacking sequences which sometimes has me overthinking things a bit I like the world-building concept the most, and how the music ties into the PI or detective vibe taken on by Patt. Vices and shifty characters are also tied in pretty well. The banana was certainly a character There are several things I would want to see in future updates, such as some QoL improvements - I think we'd appreciate a damage over time kinda playstyle in the game too, a Mold or Fungal thing perhaps? - A compendium to look at currently unlocked cards and gadgets - Perhaps an indicator of attack sequence, or a prediction of where we'd be on the meter when a card is played I'd also be looking forward to see an ascension system down the line too. I wonder if it might be a Wildfrost-like pick-and-mix system, or a more linear system like Slay the Spire Overall, I really like the game, and hopefully we'll see more content updates that bring more run diversity, and perhaps a bigger challenge as well
