I played this game only because I'm a huge Vampire: The Masquerade fan, and I enjoyed it a lot!! I thought the story was very fitting for the setting and I loved seeing things like what a Camarilla headquarters might actually look like. I loved seeing how they integrated the lore into the world and nerding out a little bit through that. I do think this game should have been polished more before release. The facial animations are a good example because it's a game all about deduction and socialization and yet the facial animations are horrible (luckily I got used to it quickly but still). Same with the way you have to position your mouse juusstt right to click on what you want. It didn't personally bother me much, but it's noticeable regardless. I must have gotten lucky that the only bugs I experienced were very minor, not game-breaking whatsoever. I did encounter one bug (at least I think it was a bug?) where I couldn't find a character in one of the very late scenes, but luckily he wasn't vital. None of this bothered me enough to sour me on this game.
I should have 'listened' to the comments.. but I took a chance.. and should have played it sooner (in order to get a refund!).. this game is an absolute DEI ♥♥♥♥ show.. real cringe! and as much as it annoys me even this early in the game, I will force myself to play it a little longer, just to see how bad it gets to start, the graphics are poor.. animation is trash, and so far the dialog is atrocious.. how anyone could think this is a 'good game' is beyond me.. but then there is the fact that it has no save, and the skills are RNG heavy and it feels like the game is on rails.. you 'automatically' fail conversations and you've only just started! I have no doubt I wont be able to finish this trash.. it feels absolutely pathetic. do NOT buy it
one of the closer game adaptations of the ttrpg system where you can customise stats. plot/writing-wise, reminded me of the other VTM visual novels/games (e.g. New York series, Night Road) and i'm having a blast. love the multiple povs that come together cohesively for the story. basically - if you love VTM stories, you'll enjoy this. however, you won't enjoy this if you believe there's too much diversity in video games today or are hyperfixated on wanting a game like bloodlines 1 :/
DO NOT buy this game. It is not worth your time or money, even if you love VtM. I got it for 90% off on sale, and still wish I had refunded it after completing it. Pros: -genuinely feels like a VtM installment. Good world building/lore. -that's literally it. Everything else went to complete ♥♥♥♥ once this project left the writer's room. Cons: -the devs seem to be allergic to attractive protagonists. Two of the main characters were completely insufferable, and the only one that was actually attractive got tortured and is horribly mutilated for the last third of the game. -NPCS range from forgettable to grinding nails on a chalkboard. I'm looking at you, annoying child character with a lisp. Many are introduced and set up with plot threads, and then immediately forgotten with no payoff for helping them. -the animations and character modeling are just atrocious. They didn't even try to lip sync dialogue, and there are noticable stutters during animtions and between cuts. -the graphics are very, very bad. I was playing on maxiumum settings, and I would have sworn this game came out 10 years older than it actually did. -there are so many game breaking bugs. During my playthrough, I got softlocked twice on different levels by getting stuck on random bits of terrain. There is no way to unstuck yourself, and the only solution is to restart the level from the very beginning, losing up to an hour of your time. The game also randomly crashed on me once. -the dialogue/skill system is needlessly complicated, and even when you're doing everything right, it still often comes down to RNG. This is not fun, and there are no real hints or guides to know what you're supposed to focus on. -the puzzles are not designed well, and are needlessly frustrating. I recommend having a walkthrough guide open on a second monitor if you really subject yourself to playing this thing. -the walking speed is too slow, even on the "jogging" toggle. This game is unfinished, broken, and absolutely miserable to play. I regret buying it, and regret grinding away hours to finish it. Unlike with Bloodlines, the core of this game is rotten, and no amount of community mods could ever fix it fully.
(I bought the game in another store when it first came out) I liked it. It's a narrative experience with a lot of walking and investigating - which is what actual tabletop WoD games are about. Just like there, you don't play a killing machine that rams through corridor-like locations, like in Bloodlines 1, instead you walk, talk and try your best trying piece things together while almost every character you interact with has their own agenda and are happy to bend you over. The dialog is good, the characters are interesting. The graphics are meh, no objection there
It's cool.
I wanted to like the game, really wanted to, the writing was hit or miss, the graphics eh, the gameplay completely diametrically opposed to what I am used to VTM, still the first 2 hours were fun.....and then it turns out that the game is a buggy mess. Five times I restarted the scene in the red salon, five times I am being softlocked, twice i restart the game from the very beginning, only to get stuck in the red salon scene again once i did everything else. Same bug, different place in the level, always Halsey that in some sort of way blocks my path, or a scripted event with her does not trigger. I can't progress past that level. To sell a game that is so bugged that it softlocks you, which is a known bug for 4 years or so, is simply shameful. I can only recommend anyone thinking of buying this game, to save their money, even if it's only for 5 bucks.
I sincerely wish I had read the reviews before buying - this is among the worst games I have ever played. There is no save mechanic and the game is full of bugs. It often becomes necessary to restart a scene to correct issues, but the inability to save means that restarting a scene can require repeating several hours of play. I had to repeat every scene at least once; 12 hours in, after repeating the fifth scene 7 times, I decided it wasn't worth the time and effort despite having purchased the game at full price. If you enjoy being frequently frustrated and repeating the same less than inspiring dialog over and over and over and over again then this might be the game for you. Otherwise, don't waste your money even if it's on sale for $5.
