Short version: 40%
Where Angels Cry has a great premise for its story, but it feels like as if it had no budget to expand on it. Its repetitive gameplay and the insane item placement did not help either.
Long version:
Where Angels Cry is one of the earliest games made by Cateia, when they still relied on one design style, which I like to call ‘Myst with less puzzles and even more pointless running around’. In other words, gameplay pretty much consists of endlessly searching a few low-resolution rooms, hopelessly entering vague sub-screens to collect a near-infinite amount of items placed in the most inconvenient and illogical places. Some items unlock a few enjoyable puzzles, but the game is still dull even by point ‘n’ click standards. The story fares a lot better; I would even say it is good enough to suffer through the gameplay for it. It is a little bit like the film adaptation of Eco’s ‘The Name of the Rose’: it is set in the early medieval times, where we play as a monk sent to a remote monastery to check up on some strange events. The plot eventually touches the supernatural, but it retains a great mystery thriller atmosphere to the end.

Monotonous.
Strays from the typical conventions of the genre, but not a bad game. There are no dedicated HOG scenes -- rather, you look for objects hidden in different scenes throughout the game. That's fine and storywise more logical than the conventional style anyway. The graphics are not as polished or beautiful as in most HOGs, and the characters aren't animated at all, so everything just feels a bit dead, but the game does have its own style that's not too bad. The story is good enough, although it does end very abruptly and anticlimatically. It's a good enough game if you get it on sale.
As far as hidden object games go, this one's pretty bad. The only 'hidden object' about this is that you have to search for tools, nails, cogwheels, gems, etc, in all the illogical places in the game world. You'll have to either find the items with help of the hint button often, or just get frustrated and click randomly about everywhere. As far as the story goes... it's mediocre at best. It pretends to be some sort of medieval detective, but it's just so lame and the ending was just so abrupt, there's absolutely no feeling of accomplishment here. A lot of things are left unanswered. It got in-game achievements, thankfully not Steam ones... because I'd really not want to bother with finishing this game 100% just for the sake of achievements.
Got this back in 2017 in a cheap bundle somewhere. At least I hope it was a cheap bundle, because the game is not good. The story is nonsensical. Really nonsensical. The music is okay, for "dramatic music" at "dramatic story points". The puzzles are... bad. The art and graphics are dated, and poorly done, even for 2014. The voice acting is fine, if a bit over-done at times. The game ends on a very strange note, and feels like there should have been much more, but either time or money ran out. I will not come down on the game for not being a hidden object game- the devs do not have it tagged that way- that tag is a user defined tag applied by gamers on the store page. But if you are hoping for a HOG- this isn't it. You do have to find items, but not in HOG scenes. You need them to complete puzzles, some of which are easy, and some of which are just PITAs. Lots of fetch quests to find X number of things to fill in empty boxes or slots or holes in doors. There was no decent progression in puzzle difficulty- just "easy, hard, PITA, easy, PITA, hard". Not an easy 100% all achievements game. You will have to play through at least twice to get all achievements. Eh, it was on my backlog, so I played it, but I will not play it again to pick up he last 5 achievements. I can't recommend it. Even if you really love point & click puzzle games, pass this one up. It was just that bad.
Easy game with a great story line, puzzles are not difficult but challenges you, good old fashion point and click game!
Не много недооценена игра на мой взгляд. Интересная история со средней графикой. Приятная игра.
I agree with the sentiment that it probably shouldn't be tagged with Hidden Object, given that the nature of the game has no traditional Hidden Object scenes, and more of finding things you need to use. This game is purely a point and click adventure since it pretty much contains combining some items and rubbing everything you have on hotspots. I actually liked this game, it was entertaining for me for what it's worth. I would say though that it feels more of a $2 game than a $5 one, comparing the quality and time spent. (Ignore my time since I left it hanging to do other things.) Pros: > Relaxing music > Fun little puzzles > Short and sweet (I normally like long games but not in a way that it's excruciating) Cons: > Story is kind of all over the place, it feels like 3 different plots with only one leading to some kind of conclusion. It felt like the writers wanted more but couldn't. Very rushed, there could have been more. But since this game has a sequel maybe the second one fares better. > Bit of painful pixel hunting, some objects are so small and hidden you might have to rely on the hint button since you never would've thunk it to be there (this doubles that some hotspots are so inconspicuous you never would have thought you had to look there) > Subpar voice acting with bad accents, some are okay, some are downright atrocious especially Jarvis :(
Decent enough casual point & click adventure, with somewhat outdated graphics and animation, seamless music, passable story, good puzzles and relatively smooth game flow, and a very little touch of the HO element (plus newly added Steam achievements). Worth the while playing for those few hours, though I would probably recommend buying it at a discount.
