Abandoned project, sadly.
Not a spiritual successor to FFT in any manner. Story and battles are lackluster. With more time it might turn into something, for now it isn't great.
I've been waiting for this Kickstarter to be made for years and years. After Playdek took their money and ran, Little Orbit stepped up and has been working feverishly to create the game all us backers hoped for when we pledged. Of course, Little Orbit didn't receive any of the over 600,000 dollars that were raised. Little Orbit is doing a phenomenal job so far. The project is years and years behind schedule but after many people, including myself, assumed we had thrown our money away for nothing - there is new hope for this project. It is early, but the early access game is enjoyable. I am cautiously optimistic we will eventually get what we hoped for when we backed this project. Thank you to Little Orbit for everything they are doing to try to bring this back from the dead. So many of us are looking forward to a spiritual successor to Final Fantasy Tactics. I, for one, am keeping hope alive and looking forward to what Little Orbit can create. I wish them all the best.
don't fall for this scam, they abandoned the game already, you got to play a few early missions with very limited gameplay
The story was mediocre and not fleshed out. Waited about 3 years for an update with nothing. Abandoned game with about 2 hours worth of playtime. Avoid this game and avoid these developers.
I don't wanna ruin this project. But i really really wish the characters appearance reflect Akihiko Yoshida design as we know it from FF Tactics, Bravely Default etc. I give it 5.5/10, just because i appreciate the effort to salvage this project.
"Unsung Story is a spiritual successor to Final Fantasy Tactics " Not even remotely. No depth, no customization. bottom of the barrel class options. All it does is look good. I've played many EA games that blow this "release" out of the water. Avoid.
failed kickstarter game, avoid avoid avoid
Early Access (Kickstarter) review I generally enjoyed this first taste of Unsung Story. It has a bit of meat on the bones, though admittedly it takes awhile to get into it. I replayed all but the last mission a second time preparing for the final mission, and having more variety in the jobs and abilities in the early missions definitely enhanced the enjoyment. Additionally, a small change I made the second time around was to increase the character movement speed as the default speed is excruciatingly slow. I changed it to 1.9x, which may be a bit too fast for "natural", but I think 1.5x is closer to I'm used to in e.g. FFT and made the game feel more lively. I read the developers' response to other feedback prior to playing, which surely biased my playthoughs, and I've been told I'm generally forgiving to games. I actually really enjoyed the setting, and I thought that the characterization of the main character's mercenary was pretty good, especially for the first few missions. By the end of the first chapter, I was intrigued to keep playing and learn more about the world and the story. I do think it would have been helpful to have more character-driven conflict earlier in the story. Technically, I think the game played well and has very beautiful environments. The visual effects are good and I thought the game was much more polished than I was expecting. I was particularly impressed with the level of shadows and lighting in the environments in this type of game. The one area that felt lower quality was the character models and animation. Besides the lack of diversity in the character models generally and in particular the main character, as noted, I thought that the "talking head" character models looked poorly lit and poorly animated. Upon reflection, the "talking heads" look basically ten years behind the rest of the game. I hope significant progress can be made here before the final release! Final note: I was very bummed for poor controller support (or poor controller support discoverability?). I didn't think playing this game with a mouse and keyboard was bad, but several times I thought "wow this feels like it was made for a controller but I can't use a controller." Looking forward to controller support! Generally, I was very happy to play and disappointed when the first chapter ended! I'm optimistic for how the rest of the game will turn out! I'm rooting for the team!
Afterbacking this game in 2014 never thought I would see it. Thanks for sticking with it Little Orbit, you get my vote for Labor of Love this year!
