A very unique game with a nice and unique art style. I can best describe it as a choose your own adventure in the style of Telltale but with far more consequences to actions due to the game following multiple characters own stories as part of a main overarching narrative. Having multiple characters means it is possible for you to have a character die and have said death actually impact the overall story. It also has quite a nice musical score. It's a breath of fresh air to see an indie studio telling tales based on the mythology and cultures not generally seen in video game worlds. It's about 3-4 hours per playthrough but due to the consequences of choices and possible routes the story can take it could easily survive multiple playthroughs if you're so inclined. If you can get the game on sale it's very much worth playing through if you're looking for something a bit out of the normal. Also the developer released a set of modding tools and tutorials on how to create mods on their website so it's possible people might be able to do more or create more with this in the future.
The game is marketed as one supporting Mac OSX, however it's been more than 2 years since it was released and I still cannot play it on my iMac without graphical glitches. I complained to the dev, but to no avail. He just does not care. So, unless you're on PC, don't buy this.

Boring game maybe the devs are boring too
i bought this game a little while ago, and recently found myself with some spare time to actually start to play it. i was not disappointed. although unrest is by no means a long game - i completed it in 3 hours, partially because i kept going back to replay certain scenes - it makes up for its shortness. in this game, you play as multiple characters, all of whom are involved with and affected by the events of the game and your choices within it; in other words, your choices matter, and affect your gameplay. your characters have traits, and these traits are added over the course of each section, depending on what choices you make. there are 2 game modes - one, in which you are allowed as many saves as you want, so that you may go back and replay certain sections as you desire and change your actions; and one, in which you have one save slot and thus must commit to every choice you make. the setup of the game seems straightforward, but you may find yourself making difficult decisions, compromising where you thought you wouldn't, and ending up with a completely different ending than you anticipated. because there are so many choices to make and consequences as a result of every choice, the game - though short - has significant replay value. i very much look forward to replaying this game and exploring every outcome. the graphics are just beautiful. the hand-painted feel of the game is charming and gives the game a more intimate feel. the music is beautiful and lends itself to the immersion of the game. the story, though not in and of itself unique, is set apart by the multiple PCs and narratives that can develop over the course of the game, and is richly told through each character's life and experience. overall, i would give this game 4/5 stars. the only reason i cannot give it a full 5 star rating is because for all that i thoroughly enjoyed it, i do wish it was longer and that you were able to play all characters more than once, and i also found it a little frustrating that even though NPCs you interact with have opinions about you and these opinions differ based on your choices, these opinion bars never really seem to affect the game. however, that does not negate my appreciation for this game. the developers worked hard to make a beautiful game with an immersive and captivating story, and they did that admirably, especially given that it was largely crowdfunded and not put on by a big name. i would definitely recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed story driven, choices-matter RPGs.
A great short rpg with excellent writing.
Worth it. Does this developer still exist?
An interesting adventure that takes place in an exotic fantasy setting in Hindu style, and its main focus is the interaction and decision-making through dialogues. The game is divided into several episodes, in each you will assume role of a different character and try to reach their goals, and depending how you resolve situations with one character may influence conditions for the next one. Together, they assemble a story of a nation and city that is beset by dwindling resources due to several years of drought, and an uneasy relationship with neighboring civilization of man-snake beings. Graphics certainly deserve praise here, all locations are meticulously drawn and character animations are well done; music is great, it blends seamlessly with the atmosphere and is nice to listen to. Sadly the game is not very long, even exploring all the options it will take some 6-8 hours, so it’s more a short story than an epic tale, but in my opinion still worth the try for all players who love adventures.
This is a game where you play multiple character stories in sequence, and learn of a larger story from the perspectives of vastly different lives. It's quite absorbing almost immediately. Each character has their own motivations and your decisions with them can effect other character decisions/story-lines. The story is moved by lots of reading, though, so if you're not into that, I don't recommend this game. Otherwise, it's pretty enjoyable!
Weird Experience. bills itself as an RPG, but it's really just a regular ol' adventure game. interesting structure: a series of vignettes set in a fantasy world based on precolonial india during a time of drough, famine, and revolt. better in concept than in execution, though. the segments all ended a little too abruptly, and were slightly too short, like a poem with the last few lines cut off. felt poorly constructed rather than ambiguous, which i think is what they were going for. also just an ugly and cheap looking game, sort of like an ambitious newgrounds game from 10 years ago. hard to push through, for me. still. worth a look, if for no other reason than it's nice to play a fantasy game that's trying to do something different.
Hard decisions to be made as story unwinds.
