Really impressed with this one; enjoying it a lot more than I expected. Clean UI, robust stat tracking, and enough immersion to feel like an active participant (and not just a Sim button operator). As a negative, I could handle a lot fewer neon green handlebar mustaches in the randomized player creator. Maybe Jared Allen could pull off that look, but half my team is sporting a wacky mustache/color combo by default. Easy enough to change manually, but ideally I'd really love a way to import my own art. Still a big thumbs up.
This game scratches a football general manager itch I've had for a while. Well done.
First of all, I like the UI and color selections. It allows people of different accessibility needs (or no accessibility needs at all) to read and comprehend all of the information you need in this game. Overall, I have had fun from season to season, despite the issues with no mandatory 53 man roster like American football. And defense is pointless, like others have pointed out. My biggest complaint with this game is the support from the devs. I had an issue in November, when my save would no longer advance after playing for 9-1/2 seasons. I sent a screenshot of the error message. Monica replies, giving me instructions to send the bug report. I send the bug report. Two weeks later, I followed up. Has there been any progress? Monica replies, telling me that I had a double strong safety in my defensive lineup due to repositioning a player. I did reposition a free safety to strong safety and never in 30+ years of football roster management have I EVER seen this. Switching player positions is integral to any football sim or management style game and it happens multiple times in a franchise/dynasty. So I was confused as to how the fix was to move the SS back to FS or switch to auto depth chart to reset the lineup. I moved the SS back to FS and my season advanced to the following week. That is not a fix, but a work around. At the start of my next season after the SS reposition issue, my 2035 season will not load. I sent a bug report and an explanation of this problem 3 different times over the last month. I've gotten no email. No Monica. No Body. It's one thing if they never ever responded. But they responded to my first inquiry and not the second inquiry and the two events were only weeks apart. Just disappeared. I even gave it weeks more time because the first issue started around Thanksgiving/Christmas holiday season. Well, it's February now. When players support a game, the very least they expect is reciprocity. I bought the game and played it for over 90 hours and enjoyed it for much of that time. But if you're not supporting the player base or you choose to ignore us when it's convenient to do so, I can't support you. There are other American football management games out here.
I've had the game over the new year's break, and I've thoroughly concluded that it is not a strategy game. How can I say that with certainty? I'll explain in a bit. The computer is definitely cheating, and the game maker lied about it. Now, if you want a game of chance, I'm sure there are casino games on Steam. How do I know the game cheats? I was just playing a season with player injuries turned on. Three games in a row, one of the best players for three different positions was injured for half the season. Now, what are the chances of that? It wasn't the second best player in that position that got injured, a DT, a DE, a OLB, and a CB. It was the BEST one in every single case. There's no chance of winning games if it wants to do this! Heck, the Ultimate Pro Football Coach could have spared me the time and waste of energy and just boinked me out of existence. Just say "You Lose!" The computers NFL teams have 5 star coaches, but somehow those very same 5 star coaches (rated 95 and higher) never show up in the staff market. How else can you tell that the game authors didn't care for strategy? There's no publication on how different game mechanics work, so it cannot be shown that it is doing what it is supposed to be doing. Lastly, I drafted the highest rated DT or DE several drafts in a row. The computer's teams have no trouble handling the pass rush. When I looked, they had offensive linemen rated 95 and higher. How is that possible? My team was in the same drafts as those teams. Where did those players come from? The computer's teams don't play by the same rules and have access to the same players. I had a 5 star potential player max out at a rating of 70. The game makers lied about "potential" represents. There's no manual! Who is to say? There is a screen where it shows that scouting coordinator does not have perfect estimation of a player's potential. Sure. So how does it work? In real life, I can ask the scouting coordinator questions about a player, but I have the option of watching film or consulting with other opinions. In this virtual world the game makers have created, the only thing I have to with is what's on the screen, and the game tells me that what's on the screen about a player's ability isn't even shown truthfully on the screen. How can any person execute "strategy" if the information the game shows you isn't real! If the chess game sometimes renders the bishop like a pawn, I can't play chess. If SimCity doesn't show me the types of buildings in my city, I can't build a city. This game admits that it lies! That's not fog of war that it's trying to do! And I haven't even begun to talk about the chances the best player in four of my position groups are injured, and my team is constant facing computer teams that have no injuries. (Hmmm ... something suspicious there.) Three teams in a row. No injuries on the computer teams. Four in a row. My team has had two injuries average for a season and a half! Cheater! And they can't prove the game mechanics function correctly, because THERE IS NO EXPLANATION! There are games out there that simulate fog of war and randomness. This one doesn't do that. It flat out cheats. There was maybe an effort perhaps at one point in development to make it fair, but that's out the window, over the trees, beyond the horizon. This game cheats. It's not strategy. They lied.
