About

Your master has fallen on the battlefield. You are his steed, and you take up the sword in his place. Advance through a typing game inspired by board games and roguelites, square by square, rolling dice each turn. Encounter monsters, chests, shops, events, and tactical choices in a world drawn like a living Gothic manuscript.

Your keyboard is your primary weapon. Type the words displayed on the screen to attack, break through defenses, or dodge enemy strikes. The faster and more precise you are, the more damage you inflict. Bosses, elites, and medieval creatures will put your reflexes to the test.

Every victory, every chest, and every event grants you a card: permanent bonuses, curses, unique effects, or heroic abilities. Combine them to create devastating or utterly chaotic builds. In this roguelite, your deck defines your destiny.

Disclaimer: I have refunded the game. The AI disclosure was completely inaccurate. The majority of the game features AI assets, not just the symbols claimed. I'm not even sure that the coding was done by a human; there are so many bugs that are completely illogical. To list a few: - If the card [attack before combat start] reduces an enemy to 0hp, the fight doesn't end. - Mouse cursor disappears if you click on empty space. - Text is not embedded, can be highlighted + interacted with. - Card descriptions and card effects are sometimes mismatched/incorrect. - The cost for shops scale based off of how much gold you currently have, making all choices for gold income irrelevant. - The "add level to gold" perk sets your gold TO your level, instead of adding it to your current gold. - Having more than more than 100% reduced enemy attack speed resets the speed to default. - Stacking identical buffs (e.g. +1 gold at combat start) are irrelevant. - Conditional buffs are buggy (e.g. [+2 gold after boss combat] gives you +2 gold immediately, and does not interact with boss combat at all) - Conflicting buffs/nerfs break the game (e.g. short words only + long words only) Aside from the bugs, the core gameplay loop doesn't make any sense. All "choices" regarding paths to take are irrelevant, as the branching paths don't prevent you from taking other options. The maps don't matter; there's only a single path for your horse to take, and you have no agency in any part of it. The words to type are repetitive and non-randomized. For UX: the menus aren't interactive. Text doesn't follow when assets move. There's an advertisement for another game on title page. There's a terrible TTS voiceover that mispronounces words. All in all, the game had a great premise but one of the worst executions that I've ever seen. The entire thing reeks of AI slop. Would not recommend.
Refunded. I looked forward to this game since its announcement and I was fully aware the store paged flagged that some icons are Ai generated but promised most of the other stuff is selfmade. Well guys. The frame around the game that you have to look at is... ai - the frame around every card / your items is Ai. The Banner on Steam of the game itself is AI. Don't tell me it isn't. Most of the enemies if not all have to be somehow created with it if the main character you play as is AI. I am disappointed. I loved the idea but its an eyesore.
REFUNDED. good idea, honestly. would've been so cool but - the amound of AI-generated content here is baffling, constant issues with high screen resolution (hitboxes are just not there), same words (they are not complicated, just almost every fight you got the same words), Map makes no sense (i rolled 11 and walked 14 squares - WTF XDDD) and oh - having an ad for some other game that will (or won't) be released in '27 inside this one - and that was the last straw that broke the camel's back. well, at least I can request my money back
There's a lot wrong, here. First off is the TRULY BAFFLING amount of generative AI. Let me do a little TLDR. Before the game launched, the dev had a discussion area for the use of AI, and claimed that he ONLY used it for the icons (even if you only have one eye and half a brain, you can tell that most of the art, including essentially all of the UI and containers, is AI generated). So of course people were mentioning this repeatedly in the discussion thread, there were 40+ comments. The day that the game came out, the entire thread disappeared. Now if you ask ANY questions on the discussion page about AI, they are deleted within an hour. Also deleted are the comments regarding the fact that when you quit the original demo, your browser force-opened a Google Form asking for feedback- which was really invasive and made me question if there was any malware in the game. So the dev claimed that only the icons were AI generated, and is now going on a crusade to try to remove any evidence of the prior discussions or critiques. Well, sucks that you can't turn off reviews. Here are other reasons why you don't want to buy or play this game: -It's $13. That's crazy for a game of this length, simplicity, and quality... especially since it seems there was very little human intervention. -The game is broken in many areas. There is no way to tell what is going on with the card/bonus system, and you can't see what cards are affecting you, and how. -There are visual errors left and right, bad grammar and syntax, and mismatches between ability labels and how they actually affect your horse. -The gameplay genuinely gets boring. There are no creative mechanics, it's just typing the same combos of a randomized list of about 50 words together. The only thing that changes is the length of time you have to type, which gets progressively shorter as you continue through the battles. -The gameplay itself is awkward; most of the time, you have to type to progress the game, but sometimes you are asked to use your mouse. -Bad tutorial that doesn't really clarify much. -No way to see your current buffs via the cards, the system is confusing. -The wizard that combines cards sometimes combines them into a worse or equivalent card, it just makes no sense when he says he'll make a rarer card. -Mismatch of art style, and there is no point to the dice- they literally just move you along, then roll, then move you along, again. You could achieve the same thing with one dice, or just moving with your WASD keys. -There is no way to tell card rarity because there is no designation on the card for its rarity; different cards have different text colors, but there seems to be little correlation to whether that's due to the category or rarity. Overall it's a lazy, uncreative AI-slop game made by an overdefensive person. Do not waste your money, there are way more fun typing games (made by real people). I also don't trust the dev's moral compass considering the force-opened Google Forms from the demo and the fact that he's deleting and covering up the AI discussions. That's super shady.
Graphics are pretty, other than that it feels way more like a tech demo than a real game. Not much progression at least for me not even hotkeys to select the cards and in general not a lot of gameplay other than just typing 3 short words to win a fight ? Also when you start it there is already an advertisement for the next game which is supposed to launch next year. Even tho today is the launch day of this game. Does not give me confidance that it will be worked on much.
The Dev is an AI Scam Artist lying through their teeth about how much AI is used in their game AND how much of an "enthusiast" of AI they are. The dev is putting in concerted INTENTIONAL EFFORT to HIDE THEIR LIES. The Dev made a forum post to discuss AI usage, then when commenters called the dev out on their lies, the dev DELETED the whole discussion, and has now been CONSISTENTLY DELETING ANY DISCUSSIONS related to AI within hours of posting. (I have tested this and you can too!) As of writing, the dev has claimed: "I want to clarify right away that I am not an AI enthusiast, though I understand that this topic can be sensitive for some. Type Or Die uses AI for card icons and sprite animations. All other aspects of the game (design, programming, voice acting, music, interface, and the majority of the artwork) were created manually. If the game achieves a certain level of success after its release, I will hire a specialist artist to handle all of that." That's actually updated from claiming "just the icon art is AI", and that they WILL "hire an artist before the game's release to replace the icon art". (Which... why wouldn't you just have the same hypothetical artist who made the other art make the icon art??) The game is in full release and has done nothing to curb any of the AI usage whatsoever. - The voice acting is BLATANTLY AI. You can hear the "trembling" in the voice. - Every single piece of art I can see in the game has tell-tale marks of AI. - The "Revenge for your fallen master" starting story is so generic and uncreative, I am sure it was written or suggested by AI. - The entire thing was defintiely vibe-coded, based on all the basic programming bugs I have seen. - I have no reason to doubt the music is even AI. - And there's no WAY the dev did any of the translations without AI. - There's also NO CREDITS for anyone or any assets in the game. (Makes sense, given the writer, designer, programmer, artist, musician, and voice actor WERE ALL AI.) - - - [Gameplay] And EVEN IF you can look beyond the Dev choosing to be a scumbag deceiver about their love and use of AI, the gameplay is just B L A N D. Enemies have no mechanical differences between them to make them stand out from each other. Without even boiling it down, the whole game loop is just: - "Write words faster than this timer" - "Get a stat boost card that's maybe helpful" - "Sometimes a dude will take away one of your stat boost cards" I kid you not - that's all I did for 15 minutes. There was no thought put into the game design or flow. The dev included elements that make other games popular without actually applying WHAT makes the games popular for including those elements. - Like, all the die roll does is move you forward out of combat to the next enemy. And you get stat upgrades whenever you stop moving outside of combat. - So... what does getting +1 die even do for you? Less upgrades and triggering the boss battle sooner? Having extra dice clearly has no benefit, AND the next encounter was always so close, it didn't even matter. And EVEN THEN the effect to add an extra die only worked HALF the time. - So WHAT IS THE POINT??? There's so many things that are both unintuitive AND unexplained. Like the card mechanics: - You get a card, and it gives you a stat boost - sure, that makes perfect sense. - You get a card, and it gives you 5coins, but the enemy attacks first. But I didn't get coins and the next creature didn't attack... what? Why is there both a Kill Count and a Level Count? What does either one do? Are they just for show? There's really no downside to practically button-mashing the entire keyboard. Imprecision is not a downside. - - - And again, I wouldn't have bothered with this game at all if the Dev would have just be upfront about their AI usage. Or even come clean about their lies. But I guess lying sells. Refunded within 15 minutes.
I was really excited at first seeing the concept of this game. However, I feel that this game was a huge disappointment. The same words were used over and over and the game felt like it had no flow to it. It's supposed to be a pure typing game, so the fact that you had to switch to mouse to choose power up cards instead of just typing a number or a letter made the flow of the game very clunky and annoying to switch from mouse to keyboard and back between each battle. The gameplay got boring because the same words were recycled throughout. The movement was just based on dice rolls and I stopped caring about the power ups between rolls because all I wanted to do was get on with the game. I feel like the typing mechanism itself was also poor. The words were not case sensitive and I think it should have featured a word submission button like "enter", then you can use the backspace feature like real life typing, or like word per minute calculators online. I feel like a better approach to this game would have been typing out a story that takes you through each enemy combat. That would have made it much more entertaining than just typing out recycled key words that have no flow to it. Also the scaling of the enemies was terrible too. I went from going through each fight easily to losing the entire run in one fight because the enemies scaled to the point where one or two missed attacks resulted in losing all of my HP. I think the concept of this game is great and intriguing but the execution was very poor and I will be refunding it immediately after one play through.
Shallow AI-generated slop.
This is just ai ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with zero effort put into it, don't buy it please I have no idea how did I not notice it before buying, but i wasted twelve euros in this ♥♥♥♥
Poorly executed and communicated. This game feels like it's much earlier in the development process than it should be for a release at this price. There's no tutorial or explanations, so you're left guessing about what cards to choose because you have no idea what characteristics are useful, how or when the cards are played, or whether they are played once or persist as a desk. They're also difficult to read, because when you hover over them, the card background pops up, but the text doesn't, so it's still often partially blocked by other cards. The maps make no sense; many of them have a single path that occupies one small corner of the map. Why is the rest even there? The icons on the edges are sometimes cut off as well, so more bad implementation. There's no explanation of how the combat system works or how the typing plays into it, and the difficulty of the typing tasks varies widely for no apparent reason. The gold/purchase system is also a mess; when I had 9 gold and when I had 55 gold, the cards I was offered were roughly the same and in both cases cost all of the gold I had. There appears to be no point to collecting additional gold. Overall, this games suffers badly from poor implementation and poor communication of the core mechanics of the game. It's not fun to play.
