Perhaps there's a past that... we don't want to remember.
But, is that really something we can just forget?
While this game features an engaging narrative and various puzzle-solving elements, it is ultimately a story that delves deep into the emotional taboos hidden within the human heart.
The theme of "facing yourself" comes up often, but how can someone actually accomplish that? Who is it that put the chains on your heart?
Or perhaps we've never truly seen our "real" selves.
We hope that Type-NOISE: Shonen Shoujo is able to take our players on a journey to heal their own hearts, giving them the courage to take a step forward.

Type-NOISE: Shonen Shojo features a variety of over 40 different puzzles to solve.
From simple cause-and-effect reasoning to logical puzzles, Ace Attorney-style courtroom battles, and deductions much like mathematical theorems, even scenes where you gather clues with a single click are filled with clever gimmicks.
We guarantee a densely packed game experience that constantly challenges your thinking.
The setting is a city that closely resembles Tokyo, but clearly isn't.
Six teenagers brought together by a shared crisis strive to escape the city while gradually recovering their sealed-off memories.
Doubts, jealousy, foolishness, pride, malice, and greed.
Can they face their own pasts? And what is the true form of the city...?
The labyrinth formed from mental traumas is filled with surreal visuals, such as inverted hanging puppets, scattered paints, and lights and shadows that have been warped and distorted.
While you search for a way out, you will be immersed in a combination of story and art that goes far beyond just simple puzzle-solving.

Zena: the story's protagonist. An icy girl that loves hero shows.
"I should be able to do it too, just like a hero...!"
Itsuki: a boy tormented by jealousy
"Gah, so annoying! You're really pissing me off. Go make me a Hamburg steak or something."
Honoka: a stubborn and skeptical girl
"In the end, it's someone else's problem. Doubting, being doubted... that's what it means to be human."
Kaito: a boy filled with self-doubt
"Because of this scarred face, I was ostracized and called 'filthy.'"
Hiyori: a streamer girl and habitual liar
"I'll keep on going hyper-powerfully!! Start the video!"
Soto: a meddlesome, yet honest boy
"If you're going to do it, I'll be there to back you up."
Specter: the Whimsical Watcher of the City
"Noises! Leave 'em to me~!"

Type-Noise is an escape game and visual novel hybrid (a la Zero Escape) that has mostly fun puzzles and a good, but somewhat disjointed story. Soto Ochibana awakens in a sewer with a girl his age named Zena Yugamizora. After a quick escape sequence, they exit to a strange version of Shibuya where everyone, except for four other teens, seems to be a mindless drone. After discovering that all of them have no memory of how or why they got there, and exploring the city for a bit, they are chased away by those drone-like people and forced to hide in either an arcade or a karaoke bar, depending on your choice. As Soto and Co make their way through the city, he and his current partner find themselves in a series of escape rooms relating to the latter. As they investigate the escape rooms for a means of escape, they also find "Noise" that represents their past trauma. After collecting enough pieces of Noise, Soto and his partner see a scene that reveals a key aspect of the latter's trauma. From a gameplay perspective, the escape rooms were pretty great. There is a nice variety of puzzles (even an homage to Ace Attorney at one point), and they do a good job of showcasing their respective character's personality and backstory. There are also some UI elements that make the puzzles not so much of a hassle as they can be in other games. There's always an objective in the top left corner suggesting what you should do next, like "Combine Item X with something else," or "Solve this area"—nothing to intrusive, but enough to make it so you're not totally lost. (Although, even without that, most of the puzzles are structured in such a way that it's usually intuitive what to do next.) Some of the gameplay elements didn't click with me, especially the debate segments, but overall, they were fun. The story, which gives each character a turn in the spotlight, was not as consistent, though. Some of the characters, like Itsuki and Hiyori, had interesting, emotionally resonant stories focusing on the pressure of being a high academic achiever and the negative aspects of content creation, respectively, while others, like Honoka and especially Kaito, were merely decent. Also, the other four characters' stories have only a loose connection to Zena and Soto's stories, which are the real highlight of the story, but you have to see all four other characters' stories first. Even so, while I did enjoy Soto's story, at times, it felt overly straightforward—even preachy, sometimes—in its messaging. Overall, while Type Noise kills it on the escape-room gameplay aspect, the story is only alright. The escape puzzles are a large portion of the game, though, so if that kind of gameplay is your jam, Type Noise is an easy recommendation, despite its mixed-quality story. 6/10
I think that the game is good for what I assume to be a small team or a team with limitations. As an English speaker, I feel like the localization could be more fluid, I have a hard time believing these are teenagers with the words and sentence structure they use, but it's passable enough to get through and it seems to have been improved recently. These are just my initial thoughts on it. I read VNs and foreign media often enough that I don't mind it sometimes when the English translation is not perfect, but I think if it had a better translation, it would be more enjoyable for others as it is to me. I think it would benefit from a more casual tone for most of the speakers and maybe more thought into how a certain character would speak when translating. That being said, I like how ambitious it is and it has touched me, and that alone is something I find worthy in a game experience, and so, I am happy with it. I think if you're forgiving and used to imperfect translation, it's worth it to play.
No Responsibility Review,
Zero Escape meets The Caligula Effect. This is a visual novel that alternates between room escape sequences and a story about six people trying to escape from a city while regaining their lost memories. The room escape sequences are a lot of fun and make the game worth recommending on their own, but the story is hit-and-miss; it attempts to cover a myriad of different topics and traumas that people face, but some are handled with more grace than others. Overall, a decent game, but rough around the edges. If you've played Zero Escape or other similar visual novels with a focus on exploring lots of different locations, it's worth at least giving it a try.
