As a huge fan of the first two games from my childhood I wanted to give this one a fair shot, but the game really doesn't click with me. My main issue with the game is that there are too many bunyip and racing missions. You barely walk around as just Ty and whacking enemies with your trusty rangs and when you do, the levels are painfully liniear and over in a whim. They put so much emphasis on the boomerang customization and in theory it's pretty fun but you don't ever get to use to them where it matters anyways. That is also because most enemies - The Quinkan - require you to melee anyways, so the customization of the rangs doesn't change anything except for the damage you do, the more stones you have installed in ur rang. On top of that there is just general quality issues with the game, such as whacky controls, bugs that just softlock you (in my 2nd run in Karlos' arena I was stuck with 9/10 enemies defeated even tho I defeated every enemy from that wave) and repetitive missions with reused levels that really makes it hard to genuinely enjoy the game. Give it a shot if you really want and if you're a fan of the series, but if you somehow stumbled apon this game as a fan of early 2000s Collectathon platformers - don't bother.
Classic Game Series!!! childhood brought back lol. more people should play this, wish they were still around
Unfortunately, this isn't a Ty the Tasmanian Tiger game. It's a mish-mash of weird things, like suddenly we're going to play Armored Core, then Ace Combat, then Mario Kart, then we have very inconvenient melee combat that in the middle of the game (if not sooner) fully erases because of explosion rangs being as strong as always, weird Grand Theft Auto but with clumsy robot crab instead of a car, etc. With each installment of the series (except 4th) devs went further and further away from originality of the first Ty the Tasmanian Tiger, leaving fewer and fewer instances of it's main gameplay. It went so ridiculous to the point developers decided to make direct sequel where whole game was literally just flight combat simulator and nothing else. Thank god they at the end of the day decided to scrap it. Really shows that developers lost the idea of this series since 2nd part. Speaking of which... it's just a lame copy of stuff that at the time were rising in popularity - big open worlds like GTA I've already mentioned briefly earlier. And with each part of the series overall quality of Ty games slowly degraded to the point the very last one is simple 2D platformer with... to put it mildly, not very snappy controls. Hell, Ty 4 even throws you back to the main menu after missions because reasons? They couldn't manage to make some sort of a hub area and instead put skin shop and rang shop in the same main menu. At least in these shops you aren't buying stuff with real money. Thanks I guess? Quality's so bad that you have no idea how to fight final boss because he has almost NO animations to indicate of what he's about to do and how to counter it...
I think Krome Studios were smoking crack when they made this 2 levels in and it was diabolical. If its that rough at the start, I hate to think what the rest of the game is like. I'll just pretend they only made Ty 1 & 2 lmao - Rushed graphic animations - Voice lines sounded weird from sentence to sentence - Game-play felt weird compared to Ty 2 Maybe I'll try again in future
Game feels like it stays too long while being far too short, loved 1 and 2 and thought i'd try 3 now it's released on Steam since I never had a chance to own it on the older platforms. I can't recommend it, the combat feels bad, melee is the same button as ranged which leads to throwing rangs point blank and getting punished for it, the crabmersible is boring to drive compared to the buggy from 2. The vehicle levels are far more than they should be, most are "Find the things in the area you've explored 3 times already and destroy stuff"
I have played about 40 goofy minutes of this mid game. The story is nonsensical and they seem to have taken notes from Jak 2. That is not a good thing. You can now do a generic 3 hit combo with the rangs. Unfortunately most of the enemies require melee to be defeated. Please don't buy this game. Stick to the second game. Only thing I'M going to give credit for is the music. This soundtrack bops pretty hard.
I grew up playing TY 1 on a PS2, I didn't know about 2 or 3 until way later so this release was my first time playing it. Coming from TY 2, which I say is a huge improvement over TY 1, TY 3 feels like a downgrade in comparison. The world and levels aren't as fun to explore and the combat is kind of stupid but otherwise its still a fine game.
Hilariously campy. Don't recommend it to most people, but am leaving this recommendation for anyone who is looking for a nostalgic action-platformer that really wants the most...and I mean THE most cheesy, cliched dialogue in the world. Charming? Yes. Eye-roll inducing and bleh to play? For me, also yes.
While probably the weakest of the original PS2 trilogy for me personally in terms of story and overall design, I did have fun playing this and do recommend it. Though if you've played the first two games and are for some reason unsure about this one, you won't miss much by skipping on it. A lot of the gameplay and world-design is the same old with a new coat of paint and a bucket of new ideas thrown in and it almost works, though feels like something is missing. It's not quite as well woven as it's predecessors. The writing was probably the strongest thing for me, the jokes are very charming and there's a great deal of more humor attached to this one.
