Absolute classic! A kinetic flow of long levels with relentless waves of sniper helicopters, sniper tanks, and sniper boats. Some of the most well thought-out and cruel enemy placement and behavior in game history. Amazing music and deafening sound effects. Twin Cobra is fun to play in small increments between work or for long-term practice and satisfaction. As fun to play now as it was in the late '80s. Toaplan forever. P.S.: This game has no speed-ups, for those who may be concerned.
My impressions video of the collection: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jy2rDB_QYrE Really, your best bet if you want to play these games is to grab the whole collection as it's by far the better value, so that's what I'm talking about here. Toaplan is well known among the shmup community. Despite their relatively short life as a developer, they cranked out some of the best shmups of their time and despite helping creating one of the OG memes with "All your base are belong to us.", their games stand up well on their own merits. It's great to see Bitwave finally bringing some of these classics to an easily playable format on PC. The collection brings a ton of excellent quality of life improvements, including save states, online leaderboards, stat views, rewinding, assists and a practice mode, a ton of video options and even the ability to select different regions for each of the games. Sadly, there's no online co-op, but with Steams Remote Play feature, you can easily do it yourself and I can confirm it works well. While this isn't as technically impressive as some collections by M2 and the like, this is a very well put together package that has many of the extra features enthusiasts or those wanting to practice for competitions would want. Each of these games are unique in what they offer. Three are vertical and Zero Wing is horizontal, All but one are air combat based, while Out Zone involves controlling ground units, more akin to Akari Warriors or Jackal. They were all originally arcade games so as expected, they're challenging, but reward practice and persistence. With unlimited credits, you can see your way to the end of these in less than an hour each, but the real appeal of shmups is learning the levels and enemies and trying to get the best score, while chasing the elusive 1 Credit Clear. If you're one of those types of players, you will get many hours out of this package. Personally, I can't tell any difference between these versions and playing them in MAME so I think enthusiasts who want as close to the original experience as possible will be satisfied with this. The shmup genre has had a bit of a rekindling on PC in the last few years and it's great to see some classics from one of the genre's legendary developers finally coming out here and with a bunch of enhancements to boot. Those who love shmups and want to play some of the greatest ones should definitely grab this.

Interesting shmup but far from the toaplan best and a moderate recommendation for shmups lovers. The game shows it´s age. It is a really simple and basic shmup, but probably you won´t find much better in the genre than this if you aprecciate those charactheristics. the bullet patterns are basic. The enemyes aims at you few, but very fast bullets with big precision. The enemy variety is small and the game gets a bit repetitive and could have been more compact. There are 2 versions of the game (usa and japanese). i strongly recommend usa version has it is more easy because when you die you continue in the same place instead goig back to a chekcpoint. The difficulty is arcade level, as these games were made to steal quarters. There are 2 buttons a bomb and a shoot. there are powerups for speed and for a few different types of shoot. The visual clarity is ok but i wished that the bullets blended more with some of the backgrounds. Now let´s talk about the port. there were problems in the beggining but most were patched. Bitwave add acessibility options that you won´t find in emulation and add quality for this game. You can change the hitbox to small, have a autofire button. i do wished to have a option change bullet colors for better visibility. The price is good considering the quality work of bitwave.
Before Raiden... There's Twin Cobra!!!
It is another unfair pay to win arcade coin muncher. But this is a great release. It offers rewind notquick saves and saving to file. There are sufficient display options. There are no baked-in envelopes and there's screen rotation, allowing you to properly play it on your 3//4 vertical screen. It's a vertical scroll shooter game, this time about a choppa. There are four options for the main gun, some are way better than others. The secondary fire is bombs that are very slow to detonate and have a small radius. So instead of a defencive option to wipe the bullets from the screen it's somewhat usable only for offence. If you spend too much time during a boss fight avoiding being killed instead of attacking, the screen goes forward allowing you to skip the fight. And if you kill a boss in overtime it won't count it for an achievement. The game has the same great enemy design as in Hishōzame, with familiar set-pieces and enemies. The game is pretty, but noisy, you can't see enemy's bullets on many of the lighter terrains. Enemy's kamikaze attacks are kinda dumb in this genre, especially in realistic settings such as this. It's like fighting hamas — they don't care if they die as long as you don't survive. And in this game the enemies have insane numerical advantage. It could be a cool mechanic for scroll shooter games, if you could play chicken with the enemy, who doesn't really want to die.
Fantastic classic arcade shooter! If you're a fan of this style of game you'll like it for sure.
