Looks like it's abandoned.
There needs to be some sort of tutorial pointing players in a direction that'll help them build their community. I have next to no clue what I'm doing in this game. Am I supposed to place lumber companies in forested areas? I think I am, since that would make the most sense. Should I place farms next to water? Sounds right, since the water would irrigate the fields and, therefore, boost crop production. However, upon trying both these tactics, both lumber and agriculture collapse at rapid rates. Am I supposed to have roads connected to both the farms and lumber businesses so that people will have access to them? Nope. Tried that. Everything collapsed just as quickly as it had before. I'll notice, up in the top right corner of the screen, that both lumber and agriculture business are declining, and it frustrates me because I have no clue what to do about it. Not to mention the fact that I place dozens of houses, and yet very few people populate the area. If there was only something, ANYTHING, that could point me in the right direction, instead of just flat out telling me that my businesses are declining, that would be wonderful.
I really like this game. Simple, addictive, fun. Unfortunately, it seems that the developer has abandoned it in early access. I would not have bought it if I had noticed this on time.
The City Isn't Growing Anymore Game's been abandoned
The City Must Grow is an excellent and challenging take on city building. I love the turn-based aspect of it as it provides ample time to make the best choice of where (or even whether) to zone the tile you receive each turn. There is a level of micromanagement that is really required to succeed in this game. You must be savvy to know when it makes sense to build a particular tile. The game provides a simple set of bar charts at the top of the screen which constantly give you an overall health of your city. Supplying your citizens with their basic needs and producing new building material is key. As the game progresses, new views give you a deeper level of management that while at first is a bit overwhelming, true city architects can master to achieve the most stunning cityscapes while keeping the grow bar moving up. My one complaint about it is that the randomness of the map generation can make or break your game from the very beginning. I've been spawned on maps with large bodies of water (taking up precious building space), other maps with huge deposits of minerals and very little grazing land, and so on. Maybe some settings when starting a new game will allow the user to have some say in the richness of various resources and terrains. Other than that, this game has a great amount of potential and I'm excited to keep up with it.
Fun but it you can tell it still has work to be done. The game is not very good at telling you what you did wrong when things don't work out. And it seems strange that the tools that help you know if you're doing the right thing have to be unlocked. The first few objectives you are flying it blind until you unlock the map layers. That should be fixed. It has potential.

A "Warm-Up" City-Building Game. I have enjoyed "The City Must Grow" quite a lot in the 5 hours that I have played. This game features zoning residential, commercial and industrial zones in a turn-based puzzle game. You start with a small area of a randomly generated biome to which you must add your given "puzzle pieces" such as roads, agricultural-, residential-, or forestry zones. There are more pieces that you can unlock as you complete milestones on the map. Some that I have encountered include mines, harbours, offices, food-processing plants and it seems that there are more to follow! However, this is a puzzle-like game, so it can get a little tricky when you do not have a clear plan for your city. There are not yet things like traffic and emergency services in the game, but I really hope that the developer (yes, singular) have some great ideas for the future of this game. After all, The Game Must Grow. Who should buy this game? City-builders; Puzzle-solvers; Casual-gamers Is the price worth it? It's a small price to pay for quite some time's worth of entertainment. Final comments: Get the game, do not expect too much from it, just enjoy it. Quite excited for the Completed Game.
