Twilight Town: A Cyberpunk Day In Life Отчет№0009 Это я.
Short Review
Twilight Town: A Cyberpunk Day In Life is a short, charming visual novel that punches above its weight in character writing and pixel art, but leaves you wondering where the rest of the story went. The world and cast have genuine personality and intrigue, and the game is absolutely worth a couple of bucks for what it delivers. Just know going in that it is going to end right when things start feeling like they are building toward something bigger.
Full Review
I will be honest, cyberpunk as an aesthetic has never really been my thing. I am not exactly the target demographic for grimy neon cities and corporate dystopia vibes or whatever. So when I picked up Twilight Town: A Cyberpunk Day In Life, it was not the genre that drew me in, but rather, the pixel art. Once I started playing, what kept me going was the cast of characters surrounding our protagonist Ikuro, a gambling addict trying to scrape together enough cash to fix up his AI companion. It is a short ride, wrapping up in around two hours, but there is enough here to warrant a recommendation even with its notable shortcomings. The story. This is where Twilight Town is both its most promising and most frustrating. The narrative sets up a world with clear depth and a tone that blends dark material with genuinely funny moments in ways I was not expecting at all. The dialogue caught me off guard repeatedly, and not in a bad way. You are dealing with shady figures, adult themes that the game does not shy away from, and a scenario that feels like it is threading together something with real stakes. And then it just... ends. The ending arrives abruptly, and while I can see an argument that it was designed as a cliffhanger to set up the sequel FPS, the transition from "things are getting interesting" to "the end xdd" happens so fast. There are plot threads and questions dangling in the air that never get addressed, and you are left with the nagging feeling that you only got to experience the opening chapter of what should have been a much longer story. The characters. Fortunately, the cast mostly makes up for the narrative's abrupt exit. Pretty much everyone you encounter has a distinct personality and a reason to be memorable, which is an impressive feat for something this short. Ikuro himself works as a lead, and the various shady individuals he crosses paths with all have their own flavor. My main complaint is that a handful of them feel like they were set up to have far more going on beneath the surface, and those loose ends never get tied off before the story wraps. I wanted to know more, which I suppose is a compliment, but it also compounds the frustration of the game feeling unfinished. Still, the time I spent with this cast was time well spent. The art. This is where Twilight Town genuinely shines without any asterisks attached. The pixel art is excellent. The character designs are distinct and appealing, the backgrounds are gorgeous, and there is enough vigor in the scenes to give everything a sense of life rather than feeling like static images. This was actually what drew me to the game in the first place, and it fully delivers on that front. If you are someone who appreciates strong pixel art direction, this game has it in abundance. The music. The OST does its job well enough. It fits the mood the game is going for and serves as a solid backdrop throughout. That said, nothing in the soundtrack particularly lodged itself in my brain after the fact. It accompanied the experience competently without ever rising to the level of being something I would pull up on its own. Solid but unremarkable. Overall, Twilight Town: A Cyberpunk Day In Life is a genuinely enjoyable short visual novel that is held back mostly by its own ambition. The world and characters hint at a larger, more developed story that simply does not exist within this package, and that gap between promise and delivery is hard to ignore. But what is here, the sharp character writing, the adult humor that actually lands, and the excellent pixel art direction, is worth your time and the very modest asking price. Go in knowing it is a brief experience with an abrupt ending, and you will likely have a good time. If you find yourself wanting more, there is a sequel FPS out there too, but I doubt that will touch on the themes that weren't elaborated upon in this game. This game contains strong languages, blood, violence, references to violence, gambling references, alcohol usage, prostitution and explicit written descriptions of sexual acts.
Twilight Town: A Cyberpunk Day In Life, developed and published by Sigyaad Team, is a visually striking and emotionally charged visual novel set in a dystopian, cyberpunk world. Released in 2021, the game offers a compact yet immersive narrative experience, centering on themes of love, addiction, and human-robot relationships. Players take on the role of Ikuro, a gambling addict whose affection for his AI robot companion, Sei, drives the story. The game’s narrative unfolds as Ikuro attempts to obtain memory components for Sei, leading him into encounters with morally ambiguous characters and the shadowy corners of a futuristic city, painting a poignant picture of loneliness and desire in a technologically advanced society. The gameplay is deliberately minimalistic, focusing on reading and experiencing the story rather than engaging in complex mechanics. Players progress linearly, following Ikuro’s journey through dialogue and narrative text, with occasional choices that slightly influence interactions but do not alter the overall outcome. This design keeps the player’s attention squarely on the narrative, allowing the story to resonate without distraction. While some players might find the lack of branching paths or interactive elements limiting, it emphasizes the emotional weight of the protagonist’s struggles and the consequences of his actions. Visually, Twilight Town embraces a pixel art aesthetic that effectively evokes the neon-lit, gritty atmosphere of a cyberpunk city. The environments are carefully crafted, with details that suggest a lived-in, complex world despite the minimalist style. Character designs are expressive, communicating emotion through subtle animations and static portraits, which enhances the connection between the player and the story. Complementing the visuals is an ambient soundtrack that reinforces the game’s melancholic tone, using electronic and atmospheric music to immerse players in the city’s somber mood. The narrative itself is one of the game’s strongest elements. It explores Ikuro’s deep bond with Sei and the struggles that arise from his obsession and personal flaws. Themes of addiction, trust, and moral ambiguity permeate the story, making it a mature and thoughtful experience. The interactions with secondary characters, from shady dealers to other inhabitants of Twilight Town, provide context and depth, showcasing a city filled with both danger and fragile human connections. Despite the brevity of the experience—approximately 1.5 hours—the story leaves a lasting impression due to its emotional resonance and careful pacing. Players and critics have praised Twilight Town for its engaging storytelling and atmospheric presentation, reflected in its “Very Positive” rating on Steam. While its short length and limited interactivity may not satisfy those seeking complex gameplay, it succeeds as a focused, narrative-driven experience. The game’s ability to evoke empathy and curiosity through its story, visuals, and music demonstrates the potential of visual novels to create meaningful, compact experiences. In conclusion, Twilight Town: A Cyberpunk Day In Life is a poignant and visually distinctive visual novel that excels in storytelling and atmosphere. Its minimalist gameplay serves to highlight the narrative, drawing players into Ikuro’s world of love, addiction, and moral complexity. Though brief and linear, the game offers a memorable journey through a cyberpunk city teeming with emotion and intrigue, making it a noteworthy and impactful entry for fans of story-driven games. Rating: 8/10
I don't write reviews very often, but after playing these games I felt like doing it because I wish they got some more attention. Twilight Town: A Cyberpunk Day in Life was originally developed by Nikita Kryukov, who you might know for his game Milk Inside a Bag of Milk Inside a bag of Milk. This game has a different tone and was also edited by another developer, Sigyaad who bought the rights to the game and modified it. I don't know how the original game was like, but the changes seem to have been liked by most. Still, you might find some traces from Nikita in the game's writing and also in the soundtrack, which I liked a lot and holds the same vibe his other music does. This visual novel is a short one and can be played in between one and two hours. The story its about a boy named Ikuro who lives a somewhat depressing life in a cyberpunk city. He feels very lonely and ended up having an AI companion with whom he bonded named Sei. You can think of Sei as a Alexa of sorts, one which Ikuro has been upgrading illegally to be more human and keep him better company. The game has a light-hearted tone most of the time and part of it is because it often puts humor into the dialogues and interactions between characters. I like the kind of humor it has, but I don't think everyone will do, its somewhat comparable to the kind of humor you find in a game like monster Prom, its silly, ridiculous and also sexual, which might not land with some people. It should be said though, that the game itself doesn't have any erotic content, so the sexual comments and dialogue is just there to be funny. I've read several reviews complaining about the game's length, the story not starting off or it not being finished. I believe those opinions have missed the point of the story entirely and they're not issues the game has, I'll briefly state why but it's a spoiler so please don't read it if you haven't seen it yet and wanna realize what the story is about by yourself.
The story of the visual novel is not about Ikuro having an unhealthy obsession with an AI, nor is it about improving Sei to the fullest, and neither is it about finding out who were the hooded men who shot Ikuro. The story is about Ikuro realizing that he isn't that lonely, that he does have friends and people who care around him. Many of them were always there, but Ikuro either didn't look at them the same way or didn't know them well enough to understand that he could rely on them. By the end of the game, Ikuro realizes that he has several people he can talk and hang around with, he can be open about himself with them and they're there to help him if he needs something. And so the game ends because the conclusion was reached.
. It's a short and funny story. I like its conclusion a lot too, especially because I believe that this story's message can be a nice chance for some people to sit down for a moment and realize that things may not be the way they feel. Life sometimes can be pretty stressful and sometimes that can make you less aware of what's around you. I wholeheartedly recommend this game if: - You're interested in the setting it presents - You're looking for a short and funny story that takes less than 2 hours - You like or don't mind sexual humor - You liked any of the posterior games of this saga like Twilight Town: A cyberpunk FPS or Twilight Manor
It had an interesting concept and story, the girl was really weird and...autistic, as she says, she's funny too. But good LOOOOORD it's too short!!! Recommended tho
