Transistor is a very good game. It has beautiful visuals, evocative music, intriguing story, and fun gameplay. I would only give one major complaint. It would have been nice to have a bit more clarity around the story and setting. The mystery does seem to be intentional. That is, it doesn't feel like it was poorly or hastily written. I say that after having unlocked all of the lore. Back to a positive note, unlocking the lore is a great mini-game. It provides a nice incentive to try out all of the functions in different slots and serves as a nice challenge with the limiters. Similarly, the Turn mechanic was also novel and enjoyable. As someone who generally enjoys turn-based combat, it added a nice strategic element. I played Bastion previously, but didn't finish it. I was drawn to this game particularly due to the aesthetic. From what I remember of Bastion, Transistor feels like a refinement of the formula.
Bastion was a wonderful experience. It was the reason I bought Transistor years ago. For some reason, I never got around to playing it. Sixteen years after its release, I'm clearing my backlog and decided to catch up. The story feels incomplete from the start. We don't know what this world is or what's actually happening. The atmosphere, however, is great. The gameplay quickly picks up pace. The real-time and turn-based combat are excellent; it's clear a lot of time was spent balancing them. The plot until the very end is strangely pointless. I'll come back to that later. This causes the atmosphere to suffer. By the end of the short story, I no longer cared what happened. The combat only gets better as we learn more about its mechanics and have more skills to choose from. It's undoubtedly the best part of the game. Unfortunately, the game is very short and the story is shallow. I have no desire to play New Game+. Getting back to the story. I've checked other players' interpretations, and unfortunately, the story is truly shallow. It's incomprehensible because it's a bunch of woke ideas stacked on top of woke ideas. I'd forgotten that those were the years when woke really hit hard. Ultimately, I'm terribly disappointed. Great combat trapped in a game with a weak story (a good atmosphere) and a world that doesn't exist.
I played this game after Hades 1 and 2, and I gotta say, I'm so glad I did... 8.7/10
- How many songs do you want me to add into my library? Darren Korb: Yes.
------------------- Audiowizualnie to majstersztyk.
Just finished the 100% and even tho this game was a bit weird first it was quite fun. I love the combining of different abilitys for different effects. The grafics are awesome, same for the music and the humming along the music feature. the story is also nice tho I had a hard time understanding it first. I also love how the caracter communicates with the terminals, retyping and "speaking" with your follower. It also has a few bosses wich were also nice, nothing too hard but fun. It can be a bit hard to figure out what to do at times to do it "right", dying is really hard unless nothing works out and the punishment for failing isn´t that bad. It fel´t a little unfair sometimes but I think I just did not that good then after finishing. The worst part for me was the combat challenges taking a bit long and beeing random and one of the combat bosses I had to use a guide. Beat the game in 6.6h and finished with like 11.5 all achievements. For how short is is 20€ is a bit much but it goes on a 3€ discount often thats totally worth and you can always give it back if it´s not for you. For me tho I totally recomment for a fun and nice experience
