The game is frankly too small on screen. For most of a run, the game takes place in a tiny circle smaller than 1/4 the size of the screen. And even when I get A TON of stats devoted towards being able to see more? I can still see less than only a 1/3 of the screen. Its weird being forced to play while looking through a cardboard tube instead of just getting to see the game. Combined with the fact that there are TONS of unlocks that the game gives zero info on how to actually unlock, no thanks. Not for me.
This game just really doesn't have a lot of substance. I say this as someone who played the original prelease demo AND the playtest build before finally buying the full game recently, expecting the game to be in a better state than those previous two versions. All that's really changed is that there's more... stuff. Which is a bad thing if you think about it, since every run just consists of hoping you get certain items, because they're necessary for your build. No matter what kind of build you try, this will always be your experience. You'll be hoping for certain kinds of upgrades, RNG won't give them to you, and you'll die. Or maybe you'll get lucky, get everything you could possibly hope for, and still lose anyway because the pill-shaped enemies with the + over them are just straight up invulnerable (ingame info says they can't heal themselves or each other, but that's a straight-up lie). Half the time, I can't even tell why I lost, or why the game suddenly decided to get harder (I SWEAR it's RNG whether the + enemies even show up at all, so I guess you've just gotta hope they never spawn??). All in all, this should be an early access game at best. A free flash game at worst. The balancing is completely messed up, and the only sense of "variety" this game has in terms of alternate play styles is "okay but what if we gave you a ton of this stat, but this other stat is negative?" It's about as shallow as it sounds. Maybe this game will be improved over time, but since the dev is already onto releasing "expansions", it would seem they're under the misguided assumption that the "base game" is complete to begin with. Overall, the nicest thing I can say about this game is that it's an... okay enough option if you feel like playing a game, but don't actually feel like PLAYING a game. Even then, you're probably better off looking into like, an idle game or something, than you are paying for this.
Extremely disappointed with this game, it could have been so much more... Now it's just 8h of gameplay. No idea why talent points are capped, and at such a low value. Just 6 difficulties (basically 6 games and you're done, a bit more like me when you take longer doing the last dif with mines) which give you talent points, then it's without any progress at all. If it didn't have capped talent points I could play this for 200h+ easily, a pity indeed.
the "roguelike" is just a shameless "make same content last longer" and not really much more
负面的牌比正面的牌还要多。 总结 : 坐牢
I can recommend Towerful Defense to you as a decent tower defense game that you can turn into an auto-battler if you prefer (I did)--but only if you can get it on sale. After about 6 hours, I beat the game with every available character (tower) except a new bonus one that is really weirdly built. Once that was wrapped up, I didn't feel compelled to keep playing. I might just uninstall it soon. However, for those 6 hours of gameplay, I was having a good amount of fun. I really hope the dev adds more towers and abilities (for free, mind you) in the future; that would pull me right back in. Try to get it for $5 if you like TD games.
Towerful Defense: A Rogue TD, developed by Mini Fun Games and published by Mini Fun Games together with Gamersky Games, takes the familiar structure of tower defense and reshapes it into something more immediate and hands-on. Instead of managing a network of defenses spread across a map, the game centers everything around a single tower that the player directly controls. This design choice dramatically changes the feel of the genre, shifting the focus from long-term placement strategy to moment-to-moment decision-making, where survival depends on how well you react, adapt, and build your tower over the course of each run. The core gameplay loop is built around defending against waves of enemies that approach from all directions. Because there is only one tower, every threat feels personal, and there is little room for passive play. The tower can attack in a full 360-degree radius, but managing its abilities, timing attacks, and prioritizing targets becomes increasingly demanding as the game progresses. This constant pressure creates a sense of intensity that is not typically found in traditional tower defense games, where players can often step back and observe. Here, you are always engaged, making quick decisions while the battlefield grows more chaotic. What gives the game its depth is its roguelike progression system. Each run begins with a basic setup, but as enemies are defeated, players earn opportunities to upgrade their tower through a selection of randomized enhancements. These upgrades often come with meaningful trade-offs, encouraging experimentation rather than reliance on a single strategy. Some builds emphasize raw damage output, while others focus on defensive capabilities or utility effects. The variety of abilities—ranging from automated turrets to area-of-effect attacks—allows for different playstyles, and discovering effective combinations becomes one of the most satisfying aspects of the game. The pacing is well-suited to this structure, with runs designed to be relatively short but intense. Each session builds steadily, starting with manageable waves before escalating into more demanding encounters that test both reflexes and build efficiency. Boss fights serve as natural peaks, requiring players to fully utilize their chosen upgrades and adapt to new attack patterns. This progression creates a clear arc within each run, making the game easy to pick up for short sessions while still offering a sense of accomplishment. Outside of individual runs, there is a light progression system that provides incremental improvements. These upgrades offer a sense of advancement without overshadowing the importance of in-run decision-making. Success is still largely determined by how well players manage their resources and adapt to the challenges presented in each session, which helps maintain the game’s balance between accessibility and skill. Visually, the game adopts a minimalist style that prioritizes clarity. The interface is clean, and enemy movements are easy to track, which is essential given the fast-paced nature of the gameplay. However, this simplicity can also make the experience feel somewhat repetitive over time, as there is limited variation in visual presentation. During more intense moments, the screen can become crowded with effects and enemies, occasionally making it harder to maintain full situational awareness. One of the more interesting aspects of Towerful Defense is how it blends elements from multiple genres. While it is rooted in tower defense, its structure and upgrade system draw clear inspiration from roguelike and survival-style games. This hybrid approach gives it a unique identity, but it may also divide players. Those expecting a more traditional tower defense experience may find the lack of map-building depth limiting, while players drawn to action-heavy gameplay may need time to adjust to its strategic layer. The main limitation of the game lies in its repetition. While the variety of upgrades and builds helps keep individual runs engaging, the overall structure remains consistent, and there are few major changes to the formula as players progress. Over time, this can make the experience feel predictable, particularly once the available upgrades and strategies have been explored. Some balance issues may also emerge, with certain combinations proving significantly more effective than others. Despite these drawbacks, Towerful Defense: A Rogue TD succeeds in delivering a focused and engaging take on the genre. It transforms tower defense into a more active and reactive experience, where every decision carries weight and every run offers a chance to experiment with new strategies. While it may not have the depth or variety to sustain long-term play for everyone, it provides a satisfying and accessible gameplay loop that stands out through its simplicity and clarity.
