I really wish I could recommend this as there's a lot of neat ideas, leaving the lack luster writing and translation aside... Unfortunately the dev has no idea how to do difficulty scaling. They say the story takes around 20-30 hours. I made it to the champions league in 10 and have no joke spent 15+ hours grinding out a team because before this point you can just steamroll the rest of the game. The champions league trainers can either just annihilate your party in one turn despite them being 30 levels higher or just stun lock you so you never get to move. People say you just need to engage with the deeper mechanics of the game (which isn't as helpful as it feels like it should be) but this should start subtly being the case as you progress more not just going from a 1 to 10 with no in-between. Overall maybe if the game is at least 33% off it might be worth it but I have a hard time recommending it in its current state
Overall, this game is a solid 2.5 or 2 out of 5 stars. Absolutely not worth the $20 price tag, the game is an unfinished, unpolished thing that feels like an incomplete product. If you can get it for $5 or $10 that'd be a better price tag. But some more thoughts: The good: - The Tomomon themselves are mostly interesting. Interesting designs, typings, evolutions, and the fusion system is fun (albeit not the best designed). Collecting them was fun and seeing what new Tomomons were on different routes was great. - Combat can be fun for the first half of the game, towards the end it just becomes really easy with barely any challenge. Felt like a shame because by the time you get cool looking Tomomons it doesn't matter too much what you use you can steamroll the game. - Capture mechanic was simpler than a lot of monster collector games The bad: - This game plagiarizes a LOT from Pokemon games. From sprites (especially trainers), to moves, to gameplay mechanics... there is so much that's just straight plagiarized with minimal creativity - Really obtuse gameplay mechanics and UI - so many simple things like the way you navigate menus to the way you look at the fusion list (why the hell are Eletos right in the middle?) is so slow and stupid. Just really bad, slow UI that made the game a slog to play. - Childish, incompetent storyline and even worse script. I don't think the issue is just a translation (which is bad - typos & grammar mistakes everywhere), but more importantly it really feels like the text/dialogue was written by a 10 year old. I think some lines were meant to be charming, but was ultimately just cringeworthy. - Half the time you have no idea where to go. If you're used to playing older games (like PS1 era), this is MAYBE fine, but I really thought it was just a waste of time / didn't add to the challenge. You just had to run around talking to everyone (and most script was repeated NPC nonsense) in every single city most of the time to progress...
Story is like a teens Fanfiction, its completely random and weird asf, but other than that its a pretty decent game
Tomomon completely won me over with its charming art style and engaging gameplay. As a fan of classic monster-raising games, I was immediately hit with a wave of Digimon nostalgia. Tomomon doesn’t rely on familiarity alone. It introduces its own unique concepts, a compelling story, and a fantastic three-on-three battle system that gives the combat an old-school JRPG feel. The depth of monster abilities, stance, formations, attacks, and stats is incredible. The layers of customization make team-building a blast. This is the strategic foundation that keeps battles exciting for me. Every fight feels rewarding seeing your team idea come through. I absolutely fell in love with the world and characters, and now I’m eagerly hoping for more adventures in this universe! If you’re a fan of monster-taming games with heart, style, and deep mechanics, Tomomon is a must-play. Highly recommend!
Honestly one of the better creature collectors ive played, overall story is interesting but character speech is a bit weird at times but it doesnt bother me much and shouldnt deter you from playing this gem. The Mons themselves are really cool and the fusion function isnt something ive seen done before, huge update set to be released in the near future as well. I can answer questions if anyone has any as well may take me a sec to get to them though
Fun game that falls somewhere inbetween pokemon and digimon - well worth it's value in it's pricetag Slight concerns/hopes for the future of this game: 1: I find it very hard to find pretty much ANY information on this game on google. I did however find a very helpfull, and in one case, an overly talkactive community on the games discord. I just think it's a shame that the discord seems necessary to answer alot of basic questions about this game. As I'm not usually the type to join a discord server for every game I play... 2: I'm a bit perplexed as to how this is regarded as a 1.0.0 release state with the one of the main quests being incompleteable due to 2 mons just straight up being unavailable as of this patch. - also there seems to have been alot of features discussed that aren't currently available, like the purchase of gear and cosmetics from EV, or the room above the tower with 2 guys constantly telling me "I'm not ready" despite having ng+d the game 7 times now... stuff like that... It pains me to be suspicious of this, as I personally want to believe that these features are coming - but in this hobby of mine, it's unfortunately very common for devs (of all sizes) to never complete a product properly. (hopefully, this wont be the case with tomomon, but it's hard to believe fully in this industry) all that being said; I like the Mons, I like the fusion system, I like different tactics available like going combo style, dot builds, active nuke builds, stance builds, etc. etc. (although they aren't all balanced and ng+ function kinda locks you into one style forever with no reset functions and ng+ scaling infinitely) also, for the love of god - please give us an option to skip dialogue on ng+ and use 100 coins at a time for gachas, lol
There's some cute concepts and 'mon designs but the fact you can't switch out your creatures mid combat kills alot of the tactics for me. You have a total of 6 mon but can only use 3 per fight and lose immediately if those 3 get KO'd with no option to sub in the others. Almost pointless to have 6 besides just to XP share or switch out of combat if one of your main ones are weak. The dialogue is also a bit shallow and redundant, feels like a fast food version of Pokemon. Solid 5/10 for me.
why is the mc so mean? Like try harder next time or you should try harder XD
Awesome game - It's got a lot of stuff to do, though, sometimes a little unclear. I highly recommend to monster tamer fans
