Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft

A very good remaster of the three first Tomb Raider games. I only played the first one as a child and never 2 or 3, so experiencing all of these games was a treat. Personally, 2 was my favorite with it's slightly more open levels that still guide the player. 1 was very simple overall, fitting for the beginning of the series, and 3 loses itself in its slightly larger levels a bit which makes navigating harder, but they are all excellent games and the crisper textures make these games even better. I also love the feature of being able to switch between old and new graphics via the F1 button, more remastered games should do that. It also highlights, in a funny way, how "weird", for lack of a better term, some of the areas look when you keep the good ol' square blocks and walls from the PS1 era while filling them with high quality textures, so you have flat HD rocks that are just a texture for example. It's charmingly crusty, in a way, and most of the game has been faithfully remastered and upscaled, with just a few odd texture choices here and there. You can enable modern controls, but honestly, playing these games with the original tank controls just feels best. Sure, it's a little annoying and clunky at times, but the levels were designed around it and it just feels great to nail those jumps. I only tried the modern controls for a few minutes and it just felt wrong, but it's good that the option is there. Overall, this is great value for your money, even more so on sale. These games should be experienced by anyone and while some of the sections and storytelling choices show their age, this is still, for the most part, a masterclass in level design and challenge that perfectly showcases, then and now, how entertaining a video game can be. The remaster adds a lot of value and pretties up the games, and there are a ton of achievements that make replaying the game(s) well worth it if you so choose, and I definitely recommend this collection!
